Hiruzen was fodderized by Juubito , not rikudobito

So heres some manga evidence / Proof that Juubito was not canceling ninjutsu..........

So Hiruzen might still be around. Because if Juubito was cancelling ninjutsu, Mokuton would probably not have worked on him in that instance. So It's not safe to assume that hiruzen is dead right now. But as much likelyhood there is that he is dead, there is that he is still alive.

I agree, he's useless as of now in feats. but I'm just not quick to say he's been removed from the series without an outro or mention, and lots of cats are assuming that.
