Seriously, you think these guys are joking...they aren't...well, kinda', it is funny, but it's also true. As long as you're connected to the net, anyone willing to spend the time can hack you, especially if you aren't being careful. However, you're far more likely to just get a virus than be hacked. Viruses are made for fun, kids just like to f**k with people; hackers are usually looking to make some money from their time. Don't store credit card numbers or that type of thing on your computer or anything. Still, the likelihood of you being hacked is extremely low. Hackers really just go after websites where they know they can sit there and collect credit card numbers.
Also, don't be a jerk when someone tells you the real truth...the only true way to completely protect yourself is simply not connecting to the internet at all.
