Yeah, for instance when Naruto hit 3rd raikage with RS. He was visibly damaged however healed shortly after.

And this isn't about winning or losing, it's about making sense of a matter. I have seen other characters absorb more and I know that Madara has absorbed more so why should I simply give in when I know that the reasoning of the group is flawed?

You have completely missed the point - when Madara said that it's a bit too much he was implying that it would be dangerous for him to be hit by it - since he was an edo he could tank a lot of things, but being hit by that rasenshuriken would take his edo body quiet a while to heal from. And of course if he let that happen then Muu (?) would possibly be defeated and he would regenerate into Gaara's sand pyramid seal. The smoke that rose from his hands was only there to show the reader that indeed the rasenshuriken is powerful. Also he managed to use preta to absorb the tree. What is the energy/chakra contained within the rasenshuriken to that of the Tree? Nothing. Thus there is no limit to the quantity of chakra preta can absorb​
