i think you do just for the 3rd pokemon to appear also you need to have beat the elite four also

in order for the friend zone to be used, you have to have beaten the elite four and have e other person as your friend. you can use it offline, but shiny pokemon and dreamworld abilities are easier to find when both parties are online at the same time.
