I actually have a good theory as to why madara can us Kamui and Obito could not. When madara turn in the jubijinn he said that his body was heavy then spit out the sage's tools which made him lighter. Being that he has all the tail beast (half of the nine tail) this made him lighter than obito thus about to travel using kamui unlike obito...Im mean thinking about that is the only real disfference between the two jins that justify why one could this jutsu and the other couldn't

The reason could be is that the juubi wasnt cooperating with obito. While madaras willingly cooperated with him. Kind of like narutos relationship with kurama before.

I think it was stated that Obito wasn't able to completely control the Juubi. And the Juubi wouldn't let him use it (for some reason??). Madara has complete control over the Juubi so he can just override whatever it tries to force on him.

That's the best we can assume.
