So I watched ReviewTechUSA and The Know on YouTube about PS5 and it's gonna be "half-step" of the PS4 Pro. Meaning better than PS4 Pro, but how much better? Time will tell. I wonder what's the next XBOX gonna be called. XBOX 2? Sure the specs are gonna be -- kinda -- better. Both consoles are gonna be 4K 60FPS, but this would be too late. Must move to PC soon.

Personally, I don't know what to make of this news. I don't feel motivated to buy PS5, because no more Metal Gear and no more Resident Evil. I don't think we'll see Resident Evil 2 Remake. And no, Resident Evil 7 is the worst. It sucks as much as Metal Gear Survive. And what Sony gonna make of Death Stranding that Kojima works on? Are they gonna release the game on PS4 and PS5? Is Death Stranding would look any better on PS5?

The PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X were probably the worst thing Sony and Microsoft could have done. Granted, the Pro and the X were only necessary because Sony and Microsoft failed to mitigate the lifespan of the previous generation of consoles (the PS3 and Xbox 360) for those two consoles single-handedly caused this current issue/controversy of mid-gen console refreshes. But that's a different topic for another time, perhaps.

I have a PS4 Pro, and personally I haven't noticed anything game-changing in regards to the supposed 4k compatible games; I do however still believe it to be leagues superior to the base PS4 for the simple fact that a lot of games have higher frame-rates on the Pro when compared to the base console. Dark Souls 3 for example runs at 60fps, or damn close to it, consistently on the Pro and whenever I watch my friend play the game on his base PS4 I can't help but feel that the Pro is worth the purchase just for the frame-rate increase alone. 4k resolution in games is honestly completely overrated, people have an incredible misconception to screen resolution vs the game's graphics. Nintendo could re-release the original Super Mario Bros in native 4k, but that doesn't mean it's suddenly going look like it was rendered in Unreal Engine 4... the image is just going to look crisp. You think Horizon Zero Dawn looks gorgeous because of the resolution of the screen? If you do, I'm sorry but that's just silly. Horizon Zero Dawn looks gorgeous because of it's engine and looks better on the PS4 Pro because the added power allows the engine to do more things—the fact that it's "4k" doesn't mean diddly squat by comparison. I would have MUCH rather the Pro and the X focus instead on promising that every single game would play in 60fps at 1080p rather than promoting an artificially achieved 4k screen resolution with sub-par frames per second.

In regards to the next generation of consoles, I have the same mindset. If Sony and Microsoft insist on telling us that the general consumer really cares that much about games having a 4k screen resolution (which they don't), then they had better damn well make sure that the next generation of consoles can at the very least play every single game at 60fps regardless of the screen resolution. If they can't do that, then consoles really will be dead within the next 2 generations or so—especially if they pull this mid-gen refresh crap again.

So true. However, even for PC gamers 60FPS would be considered low for them. This phrase got me -- what to say? Jealous? Angry? Depressed? They look higher than that. 120, 240, 480FPS or maybe even over 1000. But just like what you said. 60FPS > 4K.

PlayStation and Microsoft shot themselves in the foot with PS4 Pro and XBox One X. The plan was to remove console generations but in reality, they're just making each upgrade seem underwhelming.

I'm way too fine with the regular PS4 I have. PS4Pro and XB1X can go to hell for all I care. Such dirty yet stupid move by these companies.
Anything consoles can do, PC does better.
That aside, I think virtual reality will the next big thing the next gen consoles can use.
I don't like first person shooter, so what difference the VR would make for me. So many share me the same thought.

Most people use 60hz monitors anway so higher fps doesn't really do anything

OP;

I don't think we will be getting a new gen console for quite sometime.

You should watch this video. It's very informative.

They can't even achieve 1440p 60 fps... let alone 4k lol.

I wish they would achieve 60 fps in 1440p or at least 1080p.

Makes sense. Unlike Intel Core, AMD is the only company I know so far made a 4.7GHz CPU for PC. Why not anything for console? But I don't think SONY learns.

Companies like SONY and Microsoft knew that building a console that achieves true 4K/60FPS would cost a lot, and selling a unit like this is a risk for them because they would increase the price and if they did, chances that many console users will delay until prices drop, but for how long? Companies want profits on Day 1.

If they go with RYZEN then all the console will need is a good GPU at a good price.

I agree with your point of view but It would be so much better if they actually gave the people the chance to downgrade for checkboarding 4k to full HD with 60 FPS lock. I'll take that over pretty visuals any day of the week.

The home console industry tried to leap way too early and messed everything up. There are so many versions of Playstation and Xbox coming out with different level of power due to the desire for Sony and Microsoft to control the VR and 4K market. However, they can't even all be utilised fully as the developers still have to design their games to cater to the original versions. Furthermore, with the new consoles coming out quite often, many people are only JUST buying them now so it's going to affect the Microsoft/Sony sales if they come out too early with a brand new console as many people can't afford 2 consoles in the space of such a short time.

I personally think they should have done either of the following to avoid this issue: Release the PS4/XB1 with better hardware even if it meant the profits wouldn't be as great in the first few years with the idea of long term lifespan in mind. 2. Release the PS4/XB1 in 2014/15 when better hardware was available and at a cheaper price.3. Forget the VR and 4k market until the PS5 and XB2. First focus on being able to get 1440p 60FPS (constant). We're in 2017 and we're playing games on PS4 with 30fps when we were playing MW2 on PS3 at 60 FPS in 2009. Shameful.

Given how 4k and hdr are being adopted no, it think if they time it right it will be great. Names don't really matter to me. As for going over to pc, at that point you're getting the same deal. U have to upgrade your pc every 5 years to say on top, while Microsoft and sony plan to do away with the long console cycles seen by the sixth and seventh generations.

From what i heard they planned on releasing the PS4 and Xbox 1 earlier. but the economy being shit made them hold off(look at the wii u). As such when they did drop it it was limp weak and underpowered. As opposed to when the xbox 360 dropped it was the strongest gaming machine you could buy. Period.

I have a PS4 Pro, and personally I haven't noticed anything game-changing in regards to the supposed 4k compatible games; I do however still believe it to be leagues superior to the base PS4 for the simple fact that a lot of games have higher frame-rates on the Pro when compared to the base console. 60FPs cant be done with the weak cpu. That's the bottleneck. and that super mario example was piss poor. Play kingdom hearts on ps2 480p as opposed to on ps4pro at 4k and tell me its not a drastic difference. Not to mention with the resurgence of the bit style in indie games I.e. the high bit era, yeah games can be made stylistically like those from previous eras but still be drop dead gorgeous look at my sig for example.

I don't think an arbitrary frame rate should be their only goal. This console generation sucks because the way games are played is still the same. There wasn't a big jump that shifted gameplay like in the generations before it. What id want from the next generation is a stronger multi core cpu that can handle better NPC AI. That alone changes the way we interact with the game as opposed to "moar framerate" and "moar graphiks". The only game that was ambitious in that front in my memory was ac Unity but the console couldn't handle it.
