Personal Views: Your thoughts on Religion

There was a huge debate/discussion in another thread(went off Topic) about religion.

I just want to see your personal opinion/views on religion and its relevance to you.

Some may say its Brainwashing, other's may want to quote the Bible... Not limited to Atheism, Christianity but Religion as a whole!

Is it a waste of time? Do you feel there's a greater power out there?

What do you think about Religion?

Well I guess to be more specific, i belive IF their was a god that controls the actions in the universe, we definatly don't understand the way it works, not in the way religions put it at least. I don't see anything that proves a "loving caring god" is real so untill im struck with lightning or we have a 2nd coming of christ or w/e, im atheist.

im friends with alot of devout theists tho, even dated 3 or 4 lol so no hate on the people who choose to have faith.

Thats the problem with most CHRISTIANS these days. They think God only works for them and no one else. They create myths about this and that (Benny Hinn, sorry to Benny Hinn fans)and say it's by the power of God. This is the will of God - Crusades, Salem!

That's why, IMO, most people aren't happy with the way GOD is shown to them through his servants*

Well yeah...

yeah i know most of the people who give religion a bad name would have been hateful jerks with or without it (most likely) but even now noone in america could become president without pandering to religious groups, people believe abortions (or atleast claim they believe) are against God's will so they try to make it illegal for a women to choose not to be pregnant and give birth and its wrong for gay ppl to be married because God hates them, that mindset is why im so sure i'll never believe a word a preacher says about "God's will"

its not God or the idea of God or personal faith i have issues with, its organized religions who use peoples trust and faith for personal goals and reasons to have things they (most of the time) don't understand.

im christian but im the type of christian who thinks God works for everyone i pray for my enimies at curch and i hear you about the mega christians who act like they are the only ones for heaven the're stupid and they give christians a bad rep. also about you being lost about your belife i know someone who was like that and they visited many diffrent religions to see what one fited them most

in my opinion, religions can never fully explain how the universe works. now i'm not hating on religions.. just saying. it's convinient to just make a group of people believe that some god created the world and leave it at that, but personally, i can never relate to that.

some of the tribal religions like worshipping natures and stuff, i can see where that's coming from. if i was living a thousand years ago i would've thought that the sun was the closest thing to god. but to relate to a 'god' who is supposedly watching over us from above? i can't do that..

i think every individual has his or her right to figure out and decide how things work in the universe. or at least give a general thought on the matter. but SOME religious people insist on forcing people to believe what they think is right and give bad rep for their own religion.

I am a Muslim. And I have my respect for other religions.
I dont no how to put it in English.. but let me say this.. my religion is the thing that helps me following the right path, remembering me whats good and whats bad, remembering me what the goal of life is and explaining my question what I have to ask about life&living. The more that I am in to it, the more I feel joy.
