While the village that was built upon the frozen lake was largely abandoned after the Cataclysm had shaken the world, Asterion wasted little time in allowing for the abundant resource of the fish found there to go untapped. With their occupation, the production and harvesting of fish from this lake had taken on a grand scale, where now various docks and harbors have been constructed along its Eastern shore's edge, allowing for districtuion of the fish all throughout Asterion.

The Winter and Its Wolves

This post marks the beginning of my mission using the following story board elements:
  • Defend your employer from bandits. (3)
  • Capture a criminal and interrogate them. (3 - Custom)
Summary: The winter village of Thamur's Gift has recently seen an increase in bandit activity from a group called the Giant's Wolves. In the northern reaches where populations are sparse, it is up to the village to defend itself. Nicholas is forced to defend is employer, Nils, and takes it upon himself to end this threat, even if the cost to himself is great.

Gray winds swept across the frozen face of the large lake, leaving behind deposits of snow that sat upon the ice. It carried a dull whistle, ominous and without rest. Through the gray a huddled mass sat still, statuesque, in front of an opening in the lake's skin. There was little life this far north, too cold for most, and what life remained had been chased into the depths where it clung to the heat from the earth. It was a wonder that man had made this place home. Perhaps it was arrogance, a refusal to be denied, or perhaps it was simply necessity. It was said that an ancient bloodline sought escape from persecution and went to a place that called them. Nicholas was of this bloodline, though its history had been buried in the snow long before him.

Through the monotonous song of the winds, a brighter hum could be heard, cheerful and undeterred. Hmm. Hmmmm. Hmmhmmhmm. Hmm. Hmmmm. Hmmhmmhmm. Oddly, Nicholas did not think of it as cold. Why would he? Would a desert nomad think the day hot? No, this was just the way it is in the north. Hmmm? The wooden pole that sat in his hands danced for a moment, then paused, then danced again. The telltale signs that submerged prey was flirting with its own doom. Nicholas waited, patiently. Act too soon and the ploy would be revealed, wait too long and precious bait became no more than a treat. The line became taught and the trap was sprung, Nicholas snapped back with the pole in one quick jerk to sink the hook into the fish's mouth. Now that the dance was done, the battle began. The fish struggled unseen in the depths of the water, Nicholas did his best to guide it, to let it wear itself out. His line could only take so much weight before snapping. But Nicholas was seasoned in this art, and this battle was far from exceptional. He played the game in machine-like fashion and moments later the prize was lifted through the ice.

Nicholas held the fish up and pulled it closer to examine it. Northern Pike, not large, female. He removed a glove and ran a thumb along the pike's stomach. Ho-ho! Luck is in your favor today, miss fish. Her stomach was fat with eggs, a delicacy in some parts of the world, but here the potential for life was gold. Nicholas wrestled the hook from her lip and dropped her back through the hole. A meager harvest today was worth a bountiful harvest tomorrow. Nicholas packed his belongings and began the trek back to the village.

The gray slowly faded and a surprisingly warm looking village appeared. Wooden cabins lined the edge of the frozen lake and filled the gap between its shore and the steep cliff face that protected it. The rocky wall was an off-shoot of the mountain that stood tall behind it, Mount Thamur, named after an ice giant of fabled lore. And the village it shielded was aptly named Thamur's Gift, which Nicholas called home. He swung open a heavy oaken door and entered a candlelit cabin.

A gravely voice echoed from a back room, "Who is it?! I got me ax in hand, ye better be friend!" The short and stocky source came waddling out of the storeroom, a small hatchet in tow. A white beard covered the lower half of his face and hung down to his chest. Brown furs covered the rest of him, aside from the blue eyes that peered out from below the fur hat. Ahhh! Nicholas! Ye got something good for me this day?"

Nicholas shook off the remnants of the snow from his heavy red wool coat and unwrapped the scarf from around his face. He lacked the excessive beard of the stocky man, instead showing a well kempt beard of brown that hugged his jaw tightly. A sharp and thick mustache of matching brown sat above his mouth, coming to a point on either end. "Ho-ho! Something, yes, but not much. A chance for more, but at the cost of tomorrow, if you understand, Nils." Nicholas walked over to the man, his boots landing with a heavy thunk with each step, and handed Nils a burlap sack.

The old man eyed Nicholas for a moment before driving his hatchet into a wooden pillar, freeing his hands to take the sack. "Light! Ye was gone for half the day, and this is what ye bring?!" He opened the burlap and pushed the haul around, giving a quick look to the contents inside. He grumbled to himself before slinging it over his shoulder. "It'll do, I suppose." Nils turned and waddled into the storeroom.

Nicholas turned his attention to the hatchet buried in the wooden beam. It was unlike Nils to carry a weapon. His appearance suggested his younger self might have been a warrior, but that was far from truth, unless you called a tavern keep a warrior. Nicholas called out to him, "Nils, is everything alright here? Why did you come forth with an ax?" Nicholas pulled the ax free and made his way to the back, stopping in the doorway to the storeroom.

Nils was standing on a stool shuffling around some stock to make room for the fresh catch. He seemed to be ignoring Nicholas, though he was grumbling to himself again. Nicholas prodded, "Nils...is something the matter?"

The old man huffed and through his hands in the air, "Oh alright, ye can stop ye digging." He climbed down from the stool and turned to Nicholas. "Some ruffians ransacked Olav's place down yonder while ye was gone."

Nicholas clenched his hand around the grip of the ax, "Them, again?! They've grown too brazen...I-!"

"No! No, see, that's why I didn't want to tell ye." Nils cut Nicholas off. "Ye think ye gotta protect everyone, him and her, me and them, it ain't ye problem Nicholas. We can fends for ourselves."

He relaxed his grip on the ax. "If not me, then who? This is the third time they've shown themselves just this week." Even this far north with as few people as there was, there were some who chose the path of thievery and violence. They called themselves the Giant's Wolves, and they lived within a network of caves within Mount Thamur. At first they came as sneak thieves in the night, taking a barrel of mead here, a rack of meat there. But as of late they've become more direct, even daring to show their faces in broad daylight.

Nils walked over to Nicholas and put a hand on his shoulder. "Aye, you're strong Nicholas, but it's too dangerous for ye. Too dangerous for all of us. Let the wolves take their scraps, we're hardy folk, and we've braved harsher storms than this." He pushed past Nicholas and disappeared to continue maintaining the tavern, leaving Nicholas to thought.

Nicholas lifted the hatchet and turned it in his hand, examining its build and feeling its blade. Dull and brittle. He tossed it on to a table in the storeroom and went to follow Nils in his tasks.

Moonlight peered through the windows as the residents of Giant's Gift slept. Shadows repelled down the sheer cliff, a rare threat coming from the very thing that gave them refuge. Quietly they crept through the snow, gray pelts covering their bodies. They made their way to a cabin close to the cliffs and surrounded it, waiting for the signal.

Nicholas was restless, still frustrated from his conversation from earlier with Nils. The Wolves would only grow more bold, and more dangerous. There was little in the way of a police force in Giant's Gift, there was usually little need. The few that lived there took it upon themselves to police themselves. Yet there were times when they lacked the means to handle it, such as this. In the past they had simply waited it out, as was their way. They learned their defense from the winter and while it was imperfect, it had done its job for decades. But Nicholas was not there in the past, and he was stronger than any of them knew.

His special bloodline had revealed itself when he was younger. He and his father had been cornered by a thamur bear, fierce and large, and as the bear moved to strike, Nicholas lashed out with an icy fury that chased the bear away. His father understood what it meant, and took it upon himself to train him in secret. It was a gift that could be either controlled, or it would become controlling. Yet his father taught him to hide it at all costs, for when the light was shone on it, it brought pain and misery to those who held it. There were those in the world that sought to tame Nicholas's power and wield it for themselves. If his secrets were revealed, even in the far reaches of the north, they would come looking. His silent thoughts were interrupted by a faint howl coming from somewhere up above the cliffs. It was a well constructed mimicry, but trained ears knew the difference between man and beast.

The howl was followed by the sound of shattering glass and then a scream coming from Nils' tavern across the way. Wolves!

Nicholas threw on his red coat and boots and raced to confront them. The cabin door was already broken when he arrived. Inside the Wolves had made a mess of things. Tables were flipped over and a chair sat in a splintered pile. One of them stood with a spear pointed at Britt Larsen and her daughter, holding them in the corner of the room. Nicholas stood just inside the tavern, his red coat hung loosely off his shoulders over an off-white heavy sleeping shirt. He glanced around the room, four by his count. The one in the corner, one straight ahead, and two to his right.

One came from the right first, charging with a short knife held high. The knife came slashing down and Nicholas stepped back, dodging the blow. The wolf was quick, as quickly as the first slash ended another began, the knife lunging up at Nicholas's neck. He leaned back and knife barely missed its mark, leaving a faint red line under Nicholas's chin. In the same motion Nicholas lifted his right foot and pressed it forward, driving his heel into the attacker's sternum sending him tumbling over a bench.

The other two came next, the closest was barehanded, the second held a hatchet. Nicholas charged the barehanded man, aiming to dispatch him before the armed wolf closed in. He caught a weak right punch with his left hand and drove his right fist fiercely into the nose of the wolf. A stream of blood poured from the broken nose as the bandit crumpled to the floor. Suddenly Nicholas had his arms grabbed from behind; the first attacker had recovered, but his knife had gone missing. Nicholas jerked his head back crashing the back of his skull into the mouth of the man, knocking a tooth or two loose and breaking his hold. He reached back and grabbed the wolf's arm, then using his shoulder as the fulcrum he tossed the man overhead and sent him hurtling into the charging wolf, knocking them both to the ground.

On reflex alone Nicholas ducked to allow a sudden spear thrust to pass overhead. The Larsens used the opportunity to scramble for the door, escaping into the night. Nicholas dodge two more spear thrusts before catching a third between his right arm and body. He brought his left hand down on the middle of the spear and snapped it in two. Now armed with the spearheaded half, Nicholas went on the attack. He swiped at the wolf with the half-spear drawing blood with two strikes before twisting and lashing out with a powerful kick to the gut that sent the wolf crashing into the corner where his captives had been held.

The four wolves were strewn about in various levels of injury. Nicholas tossed the half-spear into a fireplace to keep it out of reach. Go back to your caves and tell your boss this village is your bounty no more! Leave! The wolves struggled to their feet and stumbled out of the tavern. Nicholas surveyed the damage, not too much. Then he heard a cough from the storeroom. He lunged to the doorway and saw Nils leaned against the wall in the back, bruised and bleeding. "Nils!"

Nicholas stepped into the storeroom to help his boss and friend, only to be blindsided by a wooden club by an assailant standing just inside the room. Nicholas fell to the floor bleeding from just above his left temple with his vision blurred. A wolf was standing above him, club raised again. This one was larger than the other two, stronger. The club came down and it was all Nicholas could do to move his head to the side and let it bounce of the floor. Frustrated, the wolf jumped on him, clasping his hands around Nicholas's neck. Nicholas fought to free himself but the he was still dazed from the blow that came moments earlier.

Nils was old, and perhaps not a warrior, but he was proud and had a strength to him. The old codger charged the wolf and drove into him with a shoulder knocking him off of Nicholas. The wolf grabbed Nils and threw him back into the wall with a thud, but the old man had done enough. Nicholas was back to his feet and ready. The wolf charged with a right which Nicholas parried with his left, then a left which Nicholas parried with his right. Nicholas drove a right foot forward, but the wolf caught it between his hands before it could connect. Using the wolf's hands as footing, Nicholas drove his left foot up, going into a back flip, and catching the wolf underneath the jaw. Nicholas landed on a knee as the wolf stumbled back.

Enough games! Nicholas clapped his hands together and suddenly the air in the tavern chilled. Ice grew from the floor beneath the wolf and engulfed him, reaching up to his chest before halting to leave his head exposed. The wolf struggled but it was no use, Nicholas's ice was too strong.

"Nicholas...ye saved me, but at what cost..." Nils pushed himself to his feet and waddled over to the ice-encased wolf. "Not so tough now are ye?" An unseen shadow disappeared from the tavern window, its eyes having seen something strange.

Nicholas looks Nils over. "No cost is too great, friend. Go, rest. I'll finish up here." Nils nodded and headed for the back, he was too weak to argue, but he worried what Nicholas meant.

Once alone Nicholas pulled a chair over to the prisoner and sat in front of him. "You Wolves have crossed the line...a line that will never be crossed again. I'll make sure of that. That ice is cold, isn't it? Do you feel the chill yet? You will...." Nicholas stood, bringing himself face to face with the wolf. "You will show me where your caves are, or you'll freeze right here, right now."

The wolf cackled, "Kakaka! Dat so? Ya ain't scare'n me. Ya from dis soft town, soft man. Us wolves is hard, ain't scared of ya."

Nicholas didn't say anything, instead he just brought his hands together. From the top of the icy block and small spear started to take shape, slowly it inched upwards towards the man's forehead. The mockery in his eyes faded, replaced by fear. The needle of ice poked him between the eyes and blood dripped down.

"STOP! STOP! Okay, I know, I know the way!" The wolf was breathing heavy, the cold was working its way through his bones and the needle pricked at his brow.

The icy prison shattered and the wolf fell to his knees, shivering. Nicholas put a hand on his should and bent down. "Good, show me." Nicholas pulled the bandit to his feet and pushed him towards the door, the pair fading into the winter night.

As Nana exited her Korikage mansion from inside the cliffside, she looked outwards towards the village she would protect. The sun was shining down as on the horizon she could see a blizzard swirling around the village walls, the protection still active. It was time to get down to work.

Summary: After being freed from his prison, the Ice Giant went on a rampage killing several of the Wolves. Nicholas faced off with the beast but was quickly overpowered. When it appeared that his end was near, the beast had its memories triggered by Nicholas's scent and set off for Thamur's Gift. Knowing that the beast sought only destruction, Nicholas and the remaining Wolves set off for the village, hoping to stop the beast before all was lost.

The group moved as fast as they could, but injuries slowed them down. Nicholas himself was at half-speed, with what he estimated to be three or four broken ribs and a minor concussion. They followed the prints of the beast down the snowy slope towards the Gift. It appeared that Thamur was moving as a modest pace, his strides were long but suggested a brisk walk rather than run. The sun had begun to set turning the slopes various shades of orange and purple. It seemed like hours earlier when Nicholas was racing up the mountain in pursuit of the Wolves, and now he descended with them at his side.

Urk grunted and motioned ahead. "We near. Village smoking." A wisp of smoke rose up in the distance, Thamur had reached the gift. There was no longer any time to nurse wounds, Nicholas pushed onward picking up speed.

The group came to the lip of the cliff that gave the Gift its shelter. The sun had set and darkness spread far and wide. The lone light came from the Gift, but it was not a welcome site. Flames consumed a half-dozen or so cabins illumination the small village with an orange glow. In the center was a tall shadow, lurking and searching. "There the beast is! We've made it...hold on Nils." Nicholas gathered the Wolves around. "We can't face the beast head on...listen closely..."

Thamur clasped his massive hand on the roof of a building and in one swift motion peeled it free. He peered inside the cabin looking for life, but it was empty. "Grrr. I smell you, humans! I smell her!"

"THAMUR!" Nicholas stood in the center of the village shouting to the beast. Thamur whipped around and narrowed his eyes on Nicholas. "Enough, Thamur!"

"Grahah! You seek death? Let me help you find it." The beast lumbered towards Nicholas who took off running in the opposite direction. Nicholas weaved between the buildings and threw kunai back towards Thamur, though they were ineffective.

The beast was impossible to shake and the distance between the two was closing. Nicholas reached the cliff that watched over the village and began to climb, but Thamur was too quick. His hand came fiercely and his palm trapped Nicholas against the cliff face. "Pathetic! You come all this way, for this?" It was then than 'Nicholas' gave way to a cloud of smoke. A barrage of tagged weapons rained down on Thamur from behind and above. He let of out a fierce roar, and stepped back towards the village, but a loud explosion drew his attention back to the cliff.

Some halfway up the cliff an explosion set off a string of subsequent ones, racing outward in a horizontal line across the rock. An avalanche of stones tore free from the cliff and rained down upon Thamur. The beast put up his hands to shield himself but he quickly disappeared beneath the rock and ice. Nicholas clapped his hands together and triggered the tags from the weapons that were thrown. A sudden glow emanated outward from between the rocks. The stone pushed outward briefly before falling back in on themselves. There was silence as smoke billowed out of the rocky mound.

Nicholas breathed heavily and stood with the support of Urk. The Wolves and villagers alike streamed out of their hiding to gather around. "Beast is dead! Rabbit we win!"

"Yes...it would appear so..." Nicholas slipped his arm off of Urk and looked around the crowd at the frightened faces. Among them he spotted Nils and made his way over to him. "Nils! You're okay...thank the Gods!"

The older man's eyes lit up and he squeezed Nicholas in a bear hug. "Bahaha! You're alive, kid! What the hell is going on? What was that thing? What the hell are ya doing with the Wolves?!"

Nicholas smiled and clasped a hand on Nils's shoulder. "A long story, friend. One that needs a good cask of ale and a warm fire to get through." Nicholas winced and fell to a knee, Nils reach out to catch him. "Gah...perhaps...after I rest for a bit."

Nils helped Nicholas to his feet and began to walk him away from the ground, but the sound of tumbling stone stopped them. Nicholas turned back to see a massive hand sticking free from the top of the stone mound. Then with a massive roar the pile exploded outward, boulders raining down on the village and sending the crowd scattering for safety. Nicholas turned to Nils, "Run, Nils! Get to safety!"

Nicholas turned back to the beast and pushed forward against the stream of villagers running for cover. Their plan had failed, the beast lived. Deep gashes were carved into Thamur's body and his white fur was charred black in many spots. He breathed as heavily as Nicholas. "You're DEAD! YOU'RE ALL FUCKING DEAD!"

A brave Wolf stepped forward and threw a spear at the beast. Thamur batted it away and grabbed one of the massive stones that he had just been buried beneath. He swung his arm forward and released the stone, smashing it into the Wolf and leaving litte behind. Two more came from above, repelling down from the cliff top. They landed on the beast's back and began to strike down with an ax and hammer. Thamur roared and reached up, grabbing the two Wolves. He crushed one against the cliff and bit the other in half, spitting out half and dropping the other.

Nicholas weaved his hands together and spat out a powerful gust of wind. It struck Thamur center mass and knocked the beast back stumbling into the rock. The beast roared and lurched to his feet, bounding forward with rage towards Nicholas. Both beast and man were bloodied and in pain, but the two danced as though fresh. They weaved through the flame riddled village lashing out at one another. Nicholas did his best to avoid the powerful blows by using his agility to stay one step of ahead. His strikes were weaker, but more accurate than the beast's and he tried to whittle him down.

They came to the center of the village and tragedy struck. Nicholas tripped on a splintered log and the beast's kick caught him flush in the body. He was sent flying into another cabin where he crashed through the wooden walls. Thamur reached in after him and wrapped his hand tightly around Nicholas, pulling him back out into open. He tossed him across the ground and Nicholas came to a halt in the center of the village square. His blood left a red trail across the white snow. Thamur stalked towards him.

A spear came from the side and drove into the neck of the beast. Urk followed behind it like a madman with an ax in each hand. Thamur roared before raising a leg and driving his foot down towards the charging human. Urk rolled to the side and lashed out, carving into the beast's flesh. Nicholas struggled to get to his feet as the last blow had pushed his body to its utmost limits. His vision blurred and his left leg was broken. He limped forward but was nearly knocked over by Urk's body flying past him. "URK!" The wolf wasn't dead, but his wounds were great.

Nicholas had no time to come to his friend's aid as Thamur's hand wrapped around him once again, lifting him into the air. "Enough games!" Thamur squeezed tightly drawing a painful gasp from Nicholas. "Good, scream for me! I might not find the witch, but you smell like her...look like her. You'll have to do for my vengeance!"

The grip tightened and Nicholas felt as though his body might give way and explode at any moment. His mouth was gaped open in a silent scream until the beast suddenly dropped him to the snow. Thamur grunted and reached to the back of his head where an ax had struck. He pulled the weapon free and threw it aside. Nils stood behind it with anger and fear in his eyes. He reached to his belt and pulled out his hatchet, ready to fight the beast with all he could. But the beast simply swung down with the back of its left hand and struck Nils with tremendous force, sending the older man tumbling across the ground. Nils came to a halt and the beast strode towards him.

Nicholas scrambled to his feet but had no hopes of reaching Nils in time. Desperate, Nicholas dug deep. Ice was not a volatile element, it was cool, solid, and composed. With tempers high and fear coursing through them, the ice of the Yuki clan was brittle and dull. Nicholas knew he could not defeat the beast in that state. He closed his eyes and slowed his breath, calming his mind and body the best he could. Slowly he brought his hands together and focused his energy. The moisture in the air around Thamur chilled and a number of needles took form. They closed in on the beast and piercing into its body like the needles of a porcupine. "No more...you will leave this place." The beast grunted and turned to Nicholas.

Thamur swiped his hand across his body and brushed the ice needles away. He stepped towards Nicholas. Again, Nicholas weaved his hands together. A cluster of ice needles raced forward from the snow and shaped themselves into birds that bombarded the beast. Thamur took a step back and shielded himself from the attack. Once done he continued his march forward. "For my village...my friends..."

His hands weaved together again. Nicholas closed his eyes and pictured his family, his friends, the people he had to protect. He was filled with resolve. He pictured the beast in its icy tomb and knew what needed to be done. Thamur stood over him and raised a fist high. "DIE, WITCH!"

Nicholas placed his palms on the ground and focused all of his energy beneath the beast. Cold and dense, sturdy and resolute. Before Thamur could bring down his rather, ice reached up tightly around him in a tall, hexagonal pillar. The ice was like steel, nothing like the prison Nicholas had made in the cavern. This was filled with his will, and try as he might, Thamur could not shatter it. The sounds of battle faded and gave way to the dull winter hum. Nicholas took a deep breath of the crisp air and felt at peace before collapsing, too weak to do any more. The cold snow cooled his face, and he felt at home.

Techniques Used:

(Kage Bunshin no Jutsu) - Shadow Clone Technique
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 20 (total chakra is divided by the final number of clones plus the user)
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The Kage Bunshin distributes the ninja's chakra evenly among the clones and himself and creates a real copy with form and substance. The clones, a max number of 4, are capable of performing techniques on their own and can even bleed, but will usually disperse after hit by a strong enough force, returning 10% of its individual chakra to the user. Shadow clones can't be distinguished from the original with Sharingan, Byakugan, Rinnegan or normal Chakra Sensing. The clone itself can also utilize any jutsu the original ninja knows. When the clone finally disperses, any new knowledge it has gained is passed back to the original ninja and any additional clones.

(Hyouton: Tsubame Fubuki) Ice Release: Swallow Snow Storm
Type: Offensive
Rank: C
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra: 15
Damage: 30
Description: The user will shoot out a cluster of needles, shaped like swallows, which will fly out toward their target with great speed. The swallows are unable to be dodged as they can change direction in mid-air, redirecting themselves to hit their target. This jutsu is also highly resistant to fire attacks, unable to be destroyed by fire jutsu unless it is higher than C ranked.

(Hyouton: Sensatsu Suishou) Ice Release: 1000 Needles of Death
Type: Offensive
Rank: C
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra: 15
Damage: 30
Description: The user will make needles surround the opponent from all sides. Directly above them, though, there is an opening. The user can jump away at the last second before the needles converge on their opponent, or they can simply perform the jutsu from a safe distance.

(Kyousei Hyouton no Jutsu) Greater Ice Technique
Type: Offensive/Defensive
Rank: A
Range: Short-Long
Chakra: 30
Damage: 60
Description: Similar to the original, weaker technique, the Greater Ice technique allows the user to, by making a simple hand seal (Ram) produce walls, pillars, etc of snow or ice. The ice constructs are rather simple in nature but resilient and strong, with the user being able to materialize them anywhere short range (though from that point they can grow up to long range) from him from the moisture in the air. He can, however, use any proportional water source within short-long range of him to produce said constructs. These can also be directed and propelled as projectiles towards targets. In both cases, the size and possible uses are limited only by the users will, chakra and skill. It also allows the user to cool down existing moisture in the high atmosphere to bring down a snow storm, similar to the original technique yet stronger and faster acting. This snow storm will not directly harm anyone but is useful to cover the field in snow rather quickly (2 turns) and to hinder visibility, sense of touch and hearing on anyone caught inside. The user is not immune to these effects though and must spend 15 chakra points per turn to sustain the blizzard, while becoming unable to mold other elements than Water, Wind or Ice.

Coming into the Land mark from the Sister Isles, Banri and Koto continued to track the chakra signatures of Misha and her Cubs; Using the fur as a direct access point to their chakra types. They'd instantly notice the unique structure of the lands; Seeing a massive frozen lake with numerous man-made constructs for what seemed like living and fishing.

"I can sense her, be on guard Banri-sama.... She seems... Powerful..."

Koto seemed pretty concerned, So Banri took it upon himself to lighten the mood by powering up to a new form. Using his mastery of Senjutsu, Banri would enter Perfect Snake Sage mode; Buffing his speed, power, durability and all around usefulness...

"Ahh, don't be such a girl.... I'm the one they should be worried about.... Forgot you haven't seen my new shit ahaha"

"New?"

Koto wasn't aware of Banri's new sky rocket in overall power and abilities since he kept his newer abilities hidden, but Banri was oozing pure confidence as a loud roar grasps the duo's attention. Misha was now present, and it was time for Banri to slay her...

(Pitto No Kenjin) - Sage of Pits (Reference)
Type: Supplementary
Rank: S
Range: N/A
Chakra: N/A (-10 more to SM per turn cost)
Damage: N/A
Description: One of the more naturally talented Snake Sage Mode users, Shady, had found a way to develope his sage mode to more fit the snakes he used. Specifically, he found a way to adapt his own bodily functions to be like that of the Crotalinae Species, or Pitvipers; A Species of snake that he himself discovered. Whenever the user enter sage mode, whether it is Perfect or Imperfect form, he would sacrifice more chakra in order to gain more unique snake features belonging to Pitvipers. This would pertain to their scales, senses and their passive abilities mentioned for basic Pitvipers. This includes their naturally advanced sensing through their pit organs. And the natural ability to camouflage their scales. Due to the minor change to the anatomy, the user would have access to these passives when entering sage mode.

Note: A passive ability that is activated along with Snake Sage Mode but must be placed in the bio and posted upon use (but not taking up a move slot)

Note: Must have learned Pitvipers Sub-species of Snakes

It took about forty-five minutes of gathering up the money from each house but eventually, they had enough.

A young woman brought it down to the two men who slew Misha.

She seemed apprehensive about paying individuals, not from Shimogakure however, they completed the job for them.

Paying @Shady Doctor 2000 kumi for a NW bounty.
Issued by: Concerned citizens of Shimogakure
Special Classifications: S-rank, PvE, Contaminated animal, Sea of Life
Name(s): Misha the Ravenous

Orders:
Slay Misha the Ravenous before she becomes a problem for the world

Wanted For: Murdering local citizens, overfeeding on the fish, and having a growing territory that threatens Shimogakure

Bounty:
The inhabitants of Pergamon (183) are offering 2000 kumi ( +500 to a member of Shimogakure ) to those who can save them

Special Information: Misha the Ravenous used to be a kind, protective, polar bear feeding upon the plentiful fish found in the frozen lake nestled below her cliff-faced dwelling. Every few years she would raise several bear cubs the families usually residing in Pergamon ( 183 ). However, since the contamination of the Hokubu by the Mother of Beasts the Sea of Life has made its way into any shore or lake even remotely near the Hokubu Ocean. This meant that the fish she and her cubs fed upon became contaminated by the vile substance and Misha the Gentle became Misha the Ravenous.

It started with mere gluttony, she would eat, and eat, and eat gorging herself upon the plentiful fish that resided in the lake. This meant little to the inhabitants of Pergamon. They had more than enough to share, but, it continued, she had a new brood of children. This time they were malformed and twisted. Their fur obsidian black and their hunger rivaling that of Misha herself. For a while, the inhabitants of Pergamon survived, and they pushed through hoping the shinobi that reigned over their lands would aid them. When Misha and her brood began to feed upon men, women, and children no longer satisfied by the fish, they knew they had to act. They called out for help by placing a bounty upon Misha and her brood. Hoping for aid from the shinobi of their own village, Shimogakure they wait, willing to pay extra to their own. However, they will accept aid from anyone brave enough to save them.

Misha can use Water Release up to S rank, Earth Release up to S rank, has an innate damage reduction of sixty from any technique that hits her and 300 health. Misha moves at thrice the speed of a Sage Ranked shinobi. She is fifteen feet tall and weighs roughly one-thousand pounds. She has with her three cubs, each being five meters tall, weighing five-hundred pounds. They can use Water Release up to A-rank and Earth Release up to A-rank. They each have 150 health, a damage reduction of forty ( 40 ) damage from any technique that hits them and can move at twice the speed of a Sage Ranked shinobi. When together they can use four moves per turn.

A fight must last five turns minimum to claim the bounty. This bounty is a one and done bounty.

When completed link @Howard for payment

Once paid, the duo heads out. Seemed there were humans effected like this also, albeit much more powerful. Banri would cancel his remaining SM and return to his base form so that he could regather chakra reserves as he travels.

This post marks the beginning of my mission using these storyboard elements.

Set up camp (1)
Gather resources from the land (1)

Summary;
Byakuya wanders the ice barren lake in desperate need for some cover for spending the night. he left his home a couple days ago to go on an adventure.

---------

Byakuya's leaving his family behind in the mountains, after walking a few days, his morale starting to fade, these barren cold lands have taken a toll on him. As he has been away from his cozy bed for a few days now. But he needed to get out of that place as soon as he could, he had enough of this cold and living secluded.

His nose flaring red of the cold with icicles coming out of his nostrils,
He wiped his sore hands through his black hair, "hmm I should find some cover for the night" he mumbled to himself.
He walked several miles untill he noticed a lake. it span a vast area, as he squinted his eyes as something caught his interest.

"is that? that .. a hut?" he thought.

As he came closer to the old shabby looking hut he saw different holes carved in the thick layer of ice around the structure. Might these be fisherman huts? Finally a place were he could rest for the night, make a fire
and mung on a decent meal instead of that boring trail mix he survived on the past couple of days.
he placed his rug sack down and searched for some wire and something he could make a hook out of. "That'll do" he said as he found an old rusty coat hanger hanging by the oak door.
I should also search some should be some bait around here, he started searching in all the nooks and crevices, lifting old planks to find some bugs he could use.

After collecting some firewood that was left behind by the last occupant he started to make a fire with some flint and steel he carried in his survival kit, it was a extensive kit he started making when he was younger, he was always fascinated
by surviving on his own. So this was like a dream come true. But he didn't expect it to be so lonely he sighed.
A smile appeared on his face when the spark finally got caught in his kindle.

Now that the fire is sorted out he should head out to one of those holes outside and try to catch some fish.
Byakuya took his new made fishing rod proudly outside.

He pinned one of the bugs he found on the hook and dropped it in the water. The weight of the hook was perfect it descended deep, as he waited Byakuya started to hum a song he loved
After some time there was some tugging, it actually worked? He quickly started pulling on the line, not to hard but not to soft so that the fish couldn't escape. It was a big boy, probably a sort mackerel, it was steel-blue marked with wavy black lines dorsally and silvery-white ventrally
its snout long and pointed.

He skewered the fresh fish he just caught on a stick. and went back inside to put on the fire
"mmm.. that's one juicy fish" he said grinning and bending over the fire warming his hand.
It was cooked fairly quickly but he couldn't wait for the fish to cool off it was still steaming ,he ate the whole thing in one go nearly burning his tongue in the process.

it was cozy next to the fire, hearing the searing cold wind outside blasting against the hut, he took his silver lined sleeping bag out of his backpack and placed it next to the fire.
he laid down relaxing his body to the sound of the crackling fire. his eyes getting heavy and falling asleep in a deep slumber, dreaming about his little sister Rukia.

He never wanted to leave her, but he promised he would come back for her. He needed some time to find himself in the midst of all this chaos happening in the world. He really need to figure out what he was going to do after escaping this cold.

Mission end

Golden Sabbath: War Were Declared Rank: S Description: You are tasked with occupying a landmark in Shimogakure. This can be done with your main biography or a clone as a representative. You are tasked with either destroying and causing problems in Shimogakure or convincing those in the LM to switch sides or leave the village. You do not have to minimize casualties though if you wish to completely eradicate a land you may do that.
Coming from here https://animebase.me/threads/blaubaume-179.756194/#post-21981328

The clone of Skarlet would arrive at the land and immediately summon a giant snake (100 meters long) that terrorizes the lands and destroys everything. Skarlet would be on top of the snake and terrorize and occupy the space till told otherwise.

(Kuchiyose no Jutsu: Kyodalja) - Summoning Technique: Giant Snakes
Type: Supplementary
Rank: B
Range: Short
Chakra: 20
Damage: N/A
Description: The user will summon a generic Giant Snake whose size can vary from a 10 meter long snake to ones the size of a boss summon, rivaling 100 meters long. These snakes vary in appearance and size and serve only as basic warriors, having only the normal characteristics of snakes. Although they are quite simple snakes, they are very enduring and resistant and, when big enough (about 50 meters long) they can take up to B-Rank damage.

Note: requires snake contract.
Note: can only be summoned once

This clone of Skarlet would arrive at this frosty place and start moving towards the village near that she sees in the distance. As she makes her way she notices a giant frozen lake that has plenty of fisherman fishing. This would be a golden opportunity to use her new Xenomorphs summonings and their ability to adapt from their prey. Messing up this lands fishing economy would surely mess everything up.

Skarlet would go towards the edge of the lake farther away from any fisherman where they can not see her. She would then summon two facehuggers and have them go into the ocean. They would both find the biggest fish one being an eel-like creature and the second being a giant fish. Both would expand their size and attach onto their face and inject them with a parasite. After a few mins, a chest-burster would breakthrough both creatures' chest and grow into two aquatic xenomorphs.

After doing that Skarlet would head to the village while the two water Xenos would do their work. As the fishermen would notice that fishes would stop going for their lure they would be confused. As one fisherman would go to the edge of their boat the eel Xeno would come out of the water and attack the man biting him and dragging him into the lake. The other fishermen would see and start to try to head back to shore but it would be too late as the giant fish Xeno would be causing all the boats to flip as the two Xenos go to work eating all of the fishermen and see life in the lake. The two water Xenos would successfully destroy the fishing community of this land.

As that happens, Skarlet would head to the village

This post marks the spawning and start of a mission by Strix Dahlia.

The following storyboard element(s) is used:
-Discover your clans origins (2)

Strix had never really known anything outside of Pergamon, only really living there from a young age, helping fish and sew clothes for the village. They weren't a large village, not really important in Shimogakure, they didnt provide any food, or strategic importance and thus was mostly left alone during the fighting and war that had been going on. Word had reached them of the Great Cult of Mother and the great battle at the Sea of Life, but largely they remained undisturbed. Strix often wondered what life was like outside of Pergamon and where she would go. Sometimes she would secretly sneak up to the cliffside and watch over the lands and ocean and imagine herself away on some adventure. She never really felt at home, often being nothing more than a daughter of the tribe. However, different to each and every one of the tribes people, Strix had a secret that her mother hid from the rest of the villagers, the tattoo's on Strix' arm. Strix had no idea what they meant or where they were from, her mother didnt have them, but her mother knew that if Strix had shown any proficiency for ninjutsu or chakra then the village would send her away to the ninja village, to avoid having any type of military might or power. Strix often asked her mother what the tattoos meant or what they were for, but her mother always said that they were a curse, that they must be kept hidden and never to show anyone. It all changed one night when a light shone across the sea, over the edge of the horizon unknown to Strix that was the signalling of Mother, and her breaking free.

Strix cried out in pain causing her mother to rush in to see Strix' arm glowing a blueish purple, as the runes wrapped around her arm light up neon and began to cause the snow around her to float around her.

No, no, no, no, no what is this, what is going on...?

Lilah was scared and confused, the panic in her voice failing to be hid as she cuddled her daughter but unable to keep her eyes off the tattoos.

No, why now, please no...

Strix had no idea what her mother was going on about, all she knew was that the tattoo's on her arm felt like they were burning, but no heat was being created from her. The burning was incredible pain, the strange sensation of like a burn but no visible signs of any heat, the cold air around her now being fogged simply from the increased rate of her breath being drawn in and out. It was pain that was causing Strix to struggle to stay conscious for, unable to do anything but simply bear it, the tattoos pulsing with every breath that she took, following her breathing pattern. A voice was calling out to her, within her own head foreign to her own voice.

Hold on.... It will pass soon, and you will survive....

Just as soon as the voice came it left, but gave Strix determination to hold on.

Mommy, why, why does it hurt, why are they glowing?

Strix asked through her tears, dropping them onto her mothers chest and Strix tried to hold her glowing arm away from herself.

I think.... its time for you to read about who you really are my love....

Strix had no idea what she meant, but as her mother put her down on her bed, she left the room and came back with a dusty old book, one Strix had never seen before. A few minutes passed while she was gone and the pain eventually subsided, as the tattoos began to dull, but still evidently glowing, with Strix now trying to focus her attention back to her mother.

This book has been in our family for generations. It was pass down from my mother to me, from her mother to her and so on. It will explain whats going on, although I had hoped that it might have just passed on through time, although I suppose it was a little naive of me....

There was confusion on Strix face as her mother handed her the book, the cover having a single strange symbol in red on its plain black cover.

This book was a diary of the very first matriarch of our family. She had tattoo's like yours, but I dont know what colour they were.

Lilah tried to make her voice calming for her daughter, desperate to try and do anything to ensure her daughter not worry. Helping her open it up, the pages thick and yellowed, partially torn and some heavily stained with maulitple different dark colours she began to read.

I am a . Like Mother, my kind have been called many names. Oracle. Angel. Witch. Rarely are the names used kindly. I used to hate the ones who feared us, believing them ignorant. I think now, after what I have done, I better understand.
I have never known a time without my sisters. Even when one passes and a new Siren receives her markings, she always find her way to the sisterhood. It seemed the will of the universe that Sirens be together, our lives entwined like an unseen braid.

The words made almost no sense to Strix, who was having trouble concentrating despite her arm now having settled down, but her stamina having all but spent. Sirens, Sisters? what did it all mean and how did it connect Strix?

You see, our family, particularly the women in our family are all descended from this one figure, who calls herself a Siren. The markings on your arm are what signals who in our family are the Sirens. Your great grandmother was a Siren, but my mother and me didnt inherit the bloodline power. Whether it skips generations or picks and chooses who to get the power I dont know. All I know is that your Great Grandmother Kya had two best friends who also had those tattoo's, and had the power. Those tattoo's on your arm, they give you strength my love. They give you power.

Lilah looked at the arm with a mixture of fear and admiration, knowing full well that her precious daughter was about to have a difficult life. Flipping the page, Lilah read on.

Sirens have been hunted for as long as they have existed. Hunted out of fear, out of jealousy, out of misguided greed. The sisterhood was our way of passing down the craft of staying hidden, and staying alive when hiding was no longer an option.

No thread is ever truly cut. It can be tied to another, whether knotted by careful fingers or tangled by chance. Every Siren must decide what will happen when their thread reaches its end.

Strix head was racing and she was having trouble processing it all still, the fact that she possessed powers. True she always felt a calling out to travel across the seas, but that was just every young child that wanted to leave right? She flipped the page to reveal nothing but the back cover of the book.

Wha- wheres the rest? Is that all?

Im sorry love, but this is all we have, the book must have been destroyed or torn apart. it is very old and been in our family for as long as I can think.

So, maybe if I go find these other pages Ill find out more? But Ill have to leave you... but I've always felt a calling across the lands...

I know hun, I hun, and I knew it would only be a matter of time before you would find out and leave. I knew I couldnt protect you from it forever but I just had hoped that maybe it wouldn't activate. I love you my daughter. If you must, I know I cant keep you here forever, as soon as you were born with those markings I knew that one day you were going to leave.

I know mother, but I promise when I find out what this all means, Ill bring the book back and we can work it out together.

Strix took her mothers hand and kissed it. With the help of her mother she packed a bag and slept the rest of the night, to leave the next morning.

This post marks the start of my mission containing the following storyboard elements:

- Follow in the footsteps of your clan (2)
- Choose between what is right and what is easy (3)

4 Years Later

Strix stepped off the carriage as she saw the glow of the fires from her village in the distance, the wind blowing down her hood to reveal a messy black mop of hair, tied into a loose bun with the rest of her hair falling down to the middle of her back. It had been 4 long years of searching for her peoples history, a long time of going around from town to town, passing through the Badlands of Earth, to the Great Wind Deserts and over to the Island of Waves. She had asked all kinds of people about any information on sirens, angels and witches, but they all seemed to have nothing in common, being nothing but stories and folklore. The problem with all these stories is that there was no hard proof to back them up, no actual evidence to look into only word of mouth. Deciding to return home now at the age of 20, Strix felt like a failure to her parents, to the supposed clan she was a part of. Even during the 4 years she had been searching for anything on her clan, her tattoo hadn't shown any activation or glow since that memorable night where she felt it activate and learnt about her heritage.

Reaching the village after an hour of trekking, she saw the familiar faces of her village, the usual families still going about what they do, and nothing changing from the world. While out travelling, Strix had learnt of the Red Fever which turned into a deadly disease that was ravaging the world, however thankfully due to the isolation of Pergamon and no desire to visit, there was no tourism nor visitors as well as the village being self sufficient. As she walked around the village and went back to her house she found it deserted, with no sign of her mother or father. After asking around, they had decided to move to the great village of Shimogakure to try and make a bigger business, and help out in the wake of the Red Fever outbreak. Sitting on the couch, Strix sighed and wondered what to do, there was no one to help her, and she hadnt seen anything that could point her in the right direction. Strix had completely forgotten about the voice that had called out to her, throwing it away as some sort of pain induced fever dream she imagined. Pulling out the book her mother had given her, she looked it over once more with a dreary flip of the pages. She had read through it almost every day and had it memorised word for word since leaving. Nothing new that could help her. Slamming the cover shut, the leather cover stretched and the icon on the front slipped, slightly askew.

WHAT???

Strix played with the icon on the cover, as it began to rotate around, and eventually popped out, to reveal a small piece of paper that was underneath the icon. Looking like some kind of map, it looked like directions to a small cave underneath the mountainside that the village was nestled in on.

The entrance.... hmm looks like its on the other side of the lake, going into the mountainside itself...

Strix could feel adrenaline begin to rush through her body as the first breakthrough in 4 years started flooding the young womans mind about it being under her nose the entire time. Following the directions on the piece of paper, she pulled her hood up as she braved the frigged temperatures, and walked around to the entrance. It was snowed over but after a while, Strix managed to make a hole big enough to walk through and broke on through into a small cavern. Bringing out a torch, she lit it to be greeted with a large sheet of ice, a strange symbol etched into it.

THE SYMBOL!!!

There was no mistaking it, roughly carved but it was the same, the upside down v inside a ring, looking like it was about 5 feet tall, hewn into the ice itself. Strangely it hadn't been frozen over, or any other wear or tear on it except for it looking like it had been roughly carved, with an unsteady hand. There was something about it, calling out to her now she could see it, some force that was pulling her towards the actual carving itself. Her right arm feeling like it was almost moving on its own as she put it up to the ice wall.

Whoa.....

Her tattoo's began to glow purple as the light shone underneath her heavy jacket, as if a source of electricity as the symbol began to light up and began to melt away the wall of ice that had been erected. In front of Strix stood a rectangular altar, almost as if like a table, with several items on it. Upon closer inspection they were a goblet, two pieces of paper and a small chest. Curiosity getting the better of her, and wondering what this all had to do with her clan, Strix walked closer to the altar the howl of the wind now almost silenced over her own heartbeat seeminly beating a drum in her head. As she reached the altar she read the paper.

I do not know when the Voice and children became aware of Mother. They never spoke of a time before it. But I suspect that they went searching for it, or something like it, and for their curiosity they were rewarded with doom. Mother. A practical name for an incomprehensible evil. Surely it has had millions of names more poetic or subtle. But none of the civilizations who coined them survived to pass them on, or anything else for that matter. Only Mother itself knows for sure how long it has been tearing through the universe... eating its own name. Mother is ever hungry. Perhaps that is obvious when regarding a horror that gnaws on the edges of countries. But its appetite only grew only as it ate the lands, never stopping even to swallow.

Strix felt a fear in the pit of her stomach, as she read the words and realized what the writings were talking about. No mistaking it, it was the same handwriting in her book, the same woman. Had she fought against the monster that ravaged the world? How old was it? How long had it been around? Strix shook her head trying to shake the shock and frost that was biting at her, she looked down at the paper and read on the final words.

You. You, who hears me, eons after my time. I have sat these words down, even as my mind fractures under the weight of what I have done. Find my words, and remember their truths in my place. For I am the one who helped put Mother in its chains. I am the one who murdered the Voice and Cult. I am Nyriad.

She threw the pages down and took a few steps back, recoiling at the thought of what Nyriad had done, and what she must have gone through. Had she really fought the monstrosity that was Mother all those years perhaps even centuries ago? From the looks of the paper this had been largely undisturbed, no sign of anybody being here or touching this. Why, how, what even happened all those years ago and how could Strix have been given the same powers, when she couldnt even use or activate them. Strix wandered, what could she do? What should she do? She could have easily just left all this here, gone back to her village and never spoken of it ever again to anyone, ignoring her family and history, always wearing long jackets and just never wanting to ever think about this horror....

Ok, ok calm down, lets think about this...

Her mind was racing and rambling to itself, just thinking about her options and how she never asked for any of it. The easy option would certainly be just to pretend none of this ever happened, just to hide it away, no one would ever come looking for her in the small village she lived in, she could easily live there with no one ever finding out.

But I'd know....

Strix knew what she would do, even as she thought about the easy option, and it was going to be to follow her destiny, to find out about her clan, her ancestry and to walk in their footsteps. It seemed like they were the ones that dedicated to fighting great evil, and although it would be super easy to hide away, she just couldnt bring herself to do it. She needed to follow through and to do the right thing, she was going to become a Siren, an Angel, a Witch and to create her own stories, to become the stuff of legend that people told stories about.

This is the right thing to do, but I've got no idea how I'm going to do it, even when I cant use or control my power...

Sighing, she composed herself as she picked up the other piece of paper that was on the table, something like a map. As she did, pictures raced through her head, a vision of places and more locations that had the same symbol that was on the ice and on the front of the diary. Just before they shut out, she saw a red headed woman close her eyes and focus as she threw her out forwards, red energy spewing forwards from her arm as she blew away a large wall. Somehow the knowledge itself, passed it onto Strix, as she felt the same power flowing through her, the same motion, the ability to control the energy that was flowing. She felt the energy flow and release, she felt the explosion despite the vision looking like it was ages past. Placing the paper down, then second guessing, she placed both into the diary that she had. She wanted to test the new power, and turning her back, she looked towards the cave entrance that had grown considerably smaller now that it was snowing over.

One deep breath and feeling the energy in her arm, she compressed it and threw it out as a ball of purpleish blackish energy erupted from her arm, throwing her off balance slightly as it then collided with the entrance and blew it apart, now creating a large 10 foot diamteter hole.

Whoa.....

Type: Supplementary/Offensive/Defensive
Rank: B-S (B)
Range: Short-Long
Chakra: 20-40 (-15 per turn) (20)
Damage: 40-80 (40)
Description:
One basic application of Cosmic Chakra is able to manipulate it into several different properties. Depending on the Drive form the user is in, depends on what application can be used. Should the user be in no drive form, but call upon their cosmic chakra, they can only produce such things as blasts or waves from their body. Simple and unrefined bursts called forth from the accompanying movement, where it follows the body. These blasts and surges only last for the the moment of the attack, not going beyond the turn used. When in the basic first Drive Form, the user is capable of create more complex constructs, creating walls, golems, creatures etc. These constructs while they can be launched from the body, cannot move on their own unless given the appropriate movement from the user. They last for 2 turns on the field, capable of being more advanced than the base form. When the user has mastered their Final Form, the user can create more advanced constructs. These techniques are created and made from cosmic chakra but additionally given the unique proporties having the flexibility to change form/shape should the user desire. This is not limited to the users Cosmic chakra, but can create constructs that can move about on their own, for 3 turns. This is not to be confused with sentience but instead given "direct orders" eg, "attack here" or "defend me" etc.

Notes:
- Constructs can only be used in the turn they were created in. The use of Master Drive extends this by 1 turn while entering Final Form extends this another turn.
- After use of S rank version, no other Cosmic Chakra technique above A rank can be used next turn
- S rank can be used 3 times max while A rank can be used up to 5 times.

Coming from [x]

Alucard and his immortal follower drifted into an icy grave that made up the northernmost reach theyve been to after a storm in the Gaikotsu Bay had pushed them off route. Here they would dwell beside the icy lake and the snowy village next to it until the storm had vanished.
