SO guys I'm trying to write a book and I wanted to get a sampling of what you guys think is the perfect villains goals, or perhaps some aspects of a villain that you think makes one more convincing or menacing.

The story is a basic good vs. evil one, so what do you think MAKEs a villain?

If it's good vs bad then just do like DB's ones (the cliche ones)

make someone with realistic expectations

not someone who wants to take over the world

or just create someone who wants to destroy everything,( like the JOker)

Idk, a villian should have a clear goal in mind, which he works towards achieving.

**** that. That's lame.

It's set in a world of magic and demons. The villain I have in mind wants to bring about a change to the world with the power of the first demon ever, which his culture has mistaken for a god.

Oh well, then just let him work towards that. Make him focused, and give him an unique personality or something. Maybe a little twisted, but thinks that what he's doing is right. Again, this is my opinion, it's up to you and what character you like to create..

Perfect Villain to me is someone who kills for fun. He doesn't need a reason or goal. Just pure evil.

Absolutely not. He thinks all those that follow the religion are fools who do not understand and so just worship power blindly.

I thought about that originally but it doesn't make very good for long term goals. That's a good basis for a side antagonist though.

Evil doesn't need a reason to be evil. They are simply evil.

Religion is hard to tackle, although if done correctly...it's pretty damn awesome. I've always thought about a Villain who used to be over-decorated/romanticized by the entire world (basically worshiped), but eventually the world and it's people moved on and began worshiping a different entity. So said Villain wants the entire world to look up to them as a god once again, which requires some......messed up measures.

Just an idea though. I'm not a writer by any means.

Interesting, that's a different angle.

My fav kind of villains are the "Joker" kind. Psychopaths with no moral, tragic backstory. they just want to watch the world Burn for what it did to them. He cannot be Talk No Jutsu'd. likes to with Toy he's enemies. but always with interesting dialogs, with a ****ed up twist and a message. Mocking the "normal" people. however he must have Standards, like always has a nice suite or something. :uruhara:

I like villains who take advantage of human nature. They're charismatic, invigorating, and inspirational to the people, but behind close doors the villain has a plan that no one knows about.

You could tackle religious persecution. The villain making members of a religion out to be "evil" and whatnot. What he wants deep down is complete genocide of said religion/group.

Play around with it I guess.

for the evuls trope is what this kinda villain fits into.

while that may be cool and all, it kinda gets boring in the long run, no goals or ideals, just evil.

a good villain is someone who is a. manipulative, b, mysterious, VERY mysterious, whether he is wearing a mask

or simply controlling people and talking to the hero via mind control,

these^ get the crowd pumped for your villain,

the crowd also loves not only a manipulator but a smart one as well, he can't be a villain that is bold at first and becomes over confident to only tell his plans to the whole world and get's a terrible defeat at the end

"People aren't born evil, it's life that makes them one."

Give your villain a clear goal, but not the cliché "I'll take over the world just for my pleasure" one...
Make him do everything to achieve his goals, just like Machiavelli's quote: "The ends justify the means."
Also, try not to make the goal selfish and self-centered.
