They were kind of opposites of each other. Itachi had the low stamina and quick killing techs. Kisame had the huuuge stamina and big scale damage attacks. *_*. Depending on the scenario, their fight could go either way.

Poor Kisame is seriously underrated :| It doesn't help that Kishi never gave him a chance to really shine. He was either weakened or was restricted in some other way in all of his fights.

In his part I appearance he had to hold back and then flee.

In Gaara rescue arc vs Team Guy he was a clone with 30% chakra.

In a fight with Killer B he had to hold back and not kill him plus Zetsu replaced him.

In a fight with Guy he was weakened, and it wasn't as much of a fight because they basically made two jutsu collide and that's all.

This being said, yes, he did use his most powerful jutsu/show us everything he could do, but I was left with a feeling that he never got a satisfying fight in the whole story.

If Itachi was not a genjitsu master then I could say that Kisame is greater due to his nature infinity, chakara absorbtion, healing abilities, and tiejitsu. But he has no answer to Itach's genjitsu. No partner(shameda doesn't count because when b faced him he did not break the genjitsu the 8 tails did) In addition Shameda gets damaged from absorbing fire jitsu.

And sasori is better than kisame.

Kisame said Itachi can stand up to Jiraiya while he probably couldn't so he admits Itachi is the better fighter than him.. not only that but Itachi seems to be the one who gives the orders between the two.
