People hate Karin for her lustful attitude?

The difference is that Jiraiya isn't only perverted. He can be a badass, funny, romantic, serious, whatever. In fact, I'm quite sure that he has the most balanced personality in all of NV.

Karin on the otherhand, her personality is literally living for Sasuke. On her profile in the 3rd databook, it says that she was never loyal to Orochimaru, but she lived in terrible conditions and put up with experimentation when she could have escaped to see Sasuke. That's a little extreme imo. I don't hate her, I don't even dislike her, I'm simply indifferent. But, her behaviour definitely isn't something to be admired in a character.

Karin's character is decent; but her lust for Sasuke is a little too extreme and unrealistic given the circumstances IMO. However she has other positive traits that compensate for it.

I kind of like Karin, her personality seems pretty funny and distinctive despite her blind love for Sasuke. Although I sometimes confuse Karin with Kirin. lel I wonder if Sasuke named Kirin after Karin.

Not quite man. Sasuke is my favorite character(well tied with minato) I am not a sasuke hater.

J-Man a fan fav? I doubt it. The only reason he doesn't get bashed is due to the fact that he's not even mentioned that often and therefore people don't feel threatened by his character, don't care about him, or like him. He's not contraversial. You look at him as an inspiring character or nothing more than comic relief. Not alot there to debate on.

Fan favs include characters like Naruto/Sasuke (regardless of the opposing side's haters), Kakashi, Itachi, and Minato. That's pretty much it. Then for females, probably just Konan. The rest have too many haters, laughed at, and aren't significant enough to be mentioned.

I never said that Karin had no other traits. I simply stated that her character revolves heavily around Sasuke's. Unlike Jiraiya who's character revolves around mentoring prominent shinobi as well as having a significant role in finding the way to peace. Karin's character doesn't go any farther than Sasuke, that isn't something you can really deny. This isn't a problem either, considering that most females in the Naruto series are defined by the guy they like, anyway and have very little depth.

Only character I dislike in the series is Sakura, will probably stay like that for the foreseeable future. I'm indifferent about Karin, she's just there in the story, nothing more, nothing less. As for the J-man comparison, yes, they both probably have the highest amount of thirst in the entire series, but Karin is probably a whole tier or so above J-man.

Also Jiraiya's character as whole is based around many things, parallels to Naruto, role model for the main and many side characters, a philosophical compass for the series as whole and much more, not just his extreme infatuation for woman. To me, Karin is nothing more than just extra options for Sasuke. :|

People could speak positively about Shizune since there's nothing to hate on there, doesn't mean she's a fan favorite. Where does her personality take her though? What are her goals other than being with Sasuke? There are none. Personality doesn't make or break the character's significance in the story. Personality just breaches the surface of characterization, there needs to be interaction and set plans for the character that intertwine with other characters.

Her personality is not the same as her actions. Obviously she has things about her that have nothing to do with Sasuke, but everything she does seems to revolve around Sasuke.
