No but seriously, i've never referred to nagato and pein as two different people. They're just nagato's paths (hence the paths of pain)

Well yeah, I thought that was obvious. The 6 Paths of Pein is just a technique. As much a Jutsu as either Chibaku Tensei or the Rasengan are. The user controls dead bodies with the Outer Path (Gedou, the '7th' Path of the Rinnegan), and projects/uses the 6 paths' Jutsu (Preta, Deva, Human, Animal, Naraka and Asura) through these dead bodies. However, the techniques aren't as strong in Pein as they are in Nagato, because his power/chakra is divided up into 6 bodies as opposed to just one.

When Nagato was simply a puppeteer and no one in Konoha knew who or where the real "Pein" was...That guy up until the point Naruto found Nagato hiding in the paper tree. Lets call that Pein 1. From that point on is Pein 2.

IMO the reason why people separate them is because how different they are. Pein 1 looks immune to talk no Jutsu. Pein 2 is vulnerable to talk no Jutsu. Almost as they're two totally different people. M

An example of this is:

A. Tobi / Obito
B. Teen Gohan(Cell Arc) / Sayin Man (After Cell arc)

You've probably heard people say they like Tobi but hate Obito for obvious reasons...Imo its the change(personality?) that makes people separate characters like Pein/Nagato.
