Battle seems to be CqC for the most part, imo Asuma is more skilled in that department.

Assaults from chakra blades would cause Kabuto to overuse his healing, Asuma's long range is not so good but still gives hime the edge.

Kabuto is more rounded overall, but Asuma is still the same level at this point.
I don't think kabutos elemental advantage will matter since asumas elements are purely tactical/situational tools

How does that make sense? Tsunade is not as fast as Asuma. Anyhow he should still obviously be able to tag him. Still I give this fight to Asuma given that he closes the distance. His hien is extremely dangerous in CQC, its basically a long sword at full strength. And Asuma should be better at CQC so he keeps the pressure on Kabuto.

@sharingan: She was still above Kabuto's level and later pawned Oro.
No doubt she was out of shape, but she was still strong enough to be considered a "living legend" and force him to use pills to enhance his performance.

@Toshi: Judging a battle based solely on speed when none of the fighters is a speedster? I don't think that's very wise.

Orochimaru, one who has been far from the village from a long, long time; so he couldn't know anything about Kakashi's strength level in that moment too, except make an extimate that he was strong but not as strong as him. And Jiraiya, and here that's the same with Kakashi, but also he didn't know anything about Kabuto. Also, if you compare part 1 Kakashi's feats and part 1 Kabuto's feats, Kakashi rapes him. He is faster, has better reflexes, is physically stronger, has better taijutsu, better genjutsu, better ninjutsu. Not to mention that in two times, one time Kabuto, even with favourable circumstances (

) prepared the hell out just to escape from Kakashi, who didn't even uncover his Sharingan and still stomped him; another one Kakashi showed great confidence and willingness to fight him, while Kabuto... pretty much run away (

). And remember that Kabuto was the one willing to fight Jiraiya and that was joking without even being serious and having real killing intent against Tsunade, and the same that of course (verbally) challenged part 1 Kakashi. So a cocky one, for sure.

On topic, I'd say that I can see a slightly advantage for Kabuto.

All those details and nitpticking are irrelevant.
Are you really questioning the manga? When a character says something about the other, that's the author telling you stuff about that character, which until proven otherwise its true.

Who told you that Orochimaru (possibly the most well informed character after Madara) never saw anything from Kakashi? What does leaving the village has to do with anything?
You're aware that he infiltrated in Konoha with 0 diff during the CE aren't you? And he also had spies like Kabuto, posing has Konoha shinobi.
He always kept Konoha in check. Why am i assuming this? Because he wouldn't foolishly invade the village no matter how arrogant he is, that would be plain retarded. He also kept in contact with Danzo, who i'm sure wouldn't have problems handing a piece of info (in exchange of a couple of Sharingans for example).

He was joking? He got high and even then he couldn't keep her in place, ultimately having to rely on her hemophobia.
And he never turned on Jiraiya nor ever approached him for a 1v1, he only felt disappointment after Orochimaru ordered him to take care of the others while he fought Jiraiya. This was also after knowing he was handicapped.
Cocky? Maybe. One to be underestimated because of that? No (assuming his portrayal and all we know about him is being taken into account).
