I've always wondered what he would actually accomplish if he got Sasuke's body. The body would reject him in three years, and at the stages where he was trying to steal it he only had a 3 tomo sharingan.

I've also wondered why he can't just clone bodies for himself. Madara created another Hashirama with some cells, and Orochimaru did the same with the Hachibi's horn in a filler. I doubt that Madara is better than him in this area so he could potentially make all the bodies he wants with just a few cells.

I don't know if it's just plot severely restricting him or if he, as a character, is just that unoriginal. He's supposedly the best scientist in the NV, yet Madara has outdone him in quite a few scientific regards.

To answer your question: He does have a reason for wanting Sasuke's/Kimimaro's body so badly. I'm pretty sure somewhere, it's stated that if he can get a suitable enough vessel, he can stay in the body for a lifetime, plus he would get their KKGs.

As smart as he is, he has still failed to take an Uchiha's, or any non-fodder character's, body...twice.

Sure, but notice EVERYTHING, Kabuto did was based off of who's research, DNA, and chakra? Orochimaru. Then, notice how everytime he was defeated, he was either arrogant, or nerfed. Just saying.
