Orochimaru will return.....As far as him not being immediately killed after leaving Akatsuki...I think they couldn't really locate him or maybe left him on the back-burner due to priority of other plans, but that's just my opinion
Maybe because Oro was smart enough to run away quickly and secretly.
Oro kept the Akatsuki ring as well. Maybe Nagato was not really interested in killing off anybody for leaving his side unless he would become a threat and Oro kept his mouth shut.
Sasori certainly tried to spy on him. He may be doing it on his own or on orders from Nagato or other members consent etc. But their /his spy Kabuto switched sides. And since Oro didn't pose any direct threat to Akatsuki (maybe trying for three tailed beast but that's all not giving out their secrets) They let him be.
Still Oro never stayed at one place too long and was always on the move. He had multiple hide outs and remained hidden. So who knows maybe Akatsuki/Madara were after him and he was running from them as well. Itachi was certainly aiming for him.
