Orochimaru/Genjutsu Misconception!!!!!!

I've noticed quite a few NB users having the misconception that Orochimaru is weak against genjutsu, mainly due to his encounter with Itachi. However, this isn't the case at all. Firstly, I would like to point out the Orochimaru has a 5 in the databook, in both genjutsu and intelligence. Now, I mention intelligence because genjutsu is most often used by ninja with very precise chakra control and very high intelligence.

Here; we see both Itachi and Orochimaru have a 5 in both;

With Itachi, there no secret that he is a prodigy and arguably the best genjutsu-user in the Manga. Therefore, making his genjutsu the strongest/hardest to break, apart from Shisui Uchiha's.

Now, the incident that occurred (between Itachi and Orochimaru) wasn't fully shown in the manga, all we know is that Itachi and Orochimaru were face-to-face and Itachi had him in genjutsu.

That ultimately lead to Itachi cutting Orochimaru's hand.

For those of you don't know, Itachi used binding genjutsu. This is suppose to prevent its victim from moving COMPLETELY, making this probably the hardest techniques to break.

However, Orochimaru was able to do exactly that!!! Orochimaru not only was able to move after being put in binding gnejutsu against the best user in the series, but even made the attempt to break it. Itachi knew that Orochimaru wasnt one to take lightly and was aware of the fact that he could break sharingan genjutsu, as he rushed over to Orochimaru to prevent this from happening.

As shown in this image, notice distance between Itachi and Orochimaru;

Orochimaru not only *chuckles* at being in the situation and attempts to break it, but forces Itachi to closed the distance quickly and cut off Orochimaru's hand.

If there was more distance, Orochimaru would have broken/release this jutsu rather easily and Itachi knew this. Hence, Orochimaru is NOT weak against genjutus, he simply tends to underestimate its ability xd cocky bastard

He has overall better stats then oro by .5.

Orochimaru is noted to have particularly strong chakra so no itachi it not stronger then him but his overall set of techniques gives him the edge.If oro was at his full strength he could use his senjustu in battle and we all know that in dragon sage mode he can become immune to visual genjustu.He like bllazekev90 said was too cocky which led to his downfall

I think Sasori could totally take Itachi and win. Sasori is immune to genjutsu, so, yeah...

I wouldn't say he's week against genjutsu, that's just a fallacy. But to be honest, who wouldn't have trouble breaking out of Itachi's genjutsu? Itachi still owned him though :drive:

If your point is not just anybody can beat oro with genjutsu i agree. But itachi owned oro. He was able to move while in binding jutsu. But itachi never used his best genjutsu on him. Sasuke broke oro body take over technique with a simple genjutsu. So overall oro weak against uchiha genjutsu. Not everyone genjutsu.

I'm not denying he made Orochimaru look silly, but that's Orochimaru's own flaw. Orochimaru tends to underestimate all his opponents and he has a right to. However, I just wanted to point out that genjutsu isnt his weakness, he's his worse enemy

Oro knew how strong itachi was when he was drooling over itachi prowess when itachi was training as a kid. What made him think he could beat itachi is. Beyond me.

Reversed it broke it doesn't matter his attempted take over failed due to sasuke sharingan. He lost to itachi twice low diffulculty. You denying that?

he was "drooling" over how power the sharingan was. The fact he (of all people) was caught in such a simple jutsu, was very surprising to him. This fuled his lust for a young uchiha body. Orochimaru has only shown jutus he can use w/o hand seals, who knows what he really possesses.

That's something I even failed to notice, thank you for that!!! That goes further into how Sasuke's gnejutsu is inferior and much easy for Orochimaru to handle

We cant really say how strong Orochimaru with completely usable hands was, but he still felt that he was inferior to Itachi. The simple fact he never again dared to take over Itachis body proves that.

And of course, hes no noob when it comes to illusions. Its just that Itachi is so skilled with them.
