Re: Orientation - Eso

Hey, so as your first training, and being an intro to the NB RP system as a whole, we basically have two options here:

1) We can do this out-of-character where I explain the fundamentals of the system to you in an environment where it's basically just us discussing things normally.

2) We could do this in character, wherein my bio would explain the mechanics and fundamentals to your bio.

I'm fine with whatever option, so once you decide which you'd like more we can get started! :p

I'm good with whatever. Ooc might be easier though.
Okay, we can go with OOC then. By the way, this orientation will be very personalized.

Now, as a new member/RPer, the first thing to do is to look at the Biography section, and at some of the bio rules. Now, since you're still relatively new, do you have any idea what your end goal is? What kinds of abilities are you working towards? What do you want to accomplish in the RP?

a link to the Tier list, ranking abilities based on their difficulty to attain and their power.

a Quick Link to some of the bios we have in the RP.

Use these links to help you answer the questions I posed above.

I'm looking to focus on Taijutsu and Byakugan/Juken for Kenichi, then perhaps expand further, but I primarily want him with Taijutsu. I want alot of character development for Kenichi rather than fighting, so I want to grow him as a character a lot.

Eventually I'd like to make my other Bio which will need quite a bit in terms of customs and tier purchase. That character will be more fight oriented. Kenichi is more of an experiment to get adjusted. For now, Kenichi is my focus. I've already purchased leg weights and have training going on with Never (if I ever get a chance to reply XD). After that I'll try and work more on Taijutsu or get him ranked up to Chuunin. Hachimon would be neat at some point too?

I've read through the Bio rules and such already, no questions there.

Awesome choice, Taijutsu is really underrated here on NB just because a lot of people have trouble wording their actions clearly. I think that's the most important facet in close quarters combat. You already have a good grasp on the best abilities to help you out in close quarters as well, Leg Weights, Hachimon, and Jyuuken/Gentle Fist, are wonderful choices. However, when you're a chunin and thinking about buying EIG, you'd have to make some type of decision in regards to which abilities you'd like to keep. As it is now, EIG isn't allowed to be paired with KGs like the Sharingan or Byakugan. If you wanted another mode to boost taijutsu though, I'd recommend some type of Sage Mode (Moneky, Toad, etc), and learning Senjutsu enhanced combat. Jyuuken, since it works via injecting chakra into chakra points to close them, would pair pretty well with Sage Mode. Considering injecting Sen chakra into the normal opponent would cause them to turn into a statue? O_O

Just a thought I came up with just now and that I've never seen attempted before lol. However, if you upgrade your Byakugan to Tenseigan, you'd have to lose the Sage Mode since you'd gain Tenseigan Chakra Mode. There's a lot of customization possibility, and you've already got some great ideas, so I'm excited to see how your bios are gonna look when they're higher ranked :p.

Alright, since you've got a good grasp of bio rules, let's talk about specialization and specialties. In the past, specialties were largely cosmetic. They didn't mean anything. Nowadays though, we've introduced new specialties that you can add to your bio to help you out in battle. Think of it like an RPG game, these are passive buffs worked into your bio.

2 Primary + 1 Secondary, in addition to 1 Extra or 1 CFS-related specialties.

or

1 Primary + 1 Secondary + 1 Unique, in addition to 1 Extra and 1 CFS-related specialties.

Now, we'll look at each type of specialty one by one: Primary, Secondary, and Unique. At the end, you should have an idea of the types of specialties you want to work into your bio. Here are the primary specialties:

Primary Specialties

Single Handseal Specialist:

You can perform techniques of the skill you chose to specialize in by performing a single ( 1 ) handseal, that is still double-handed except when specifically stated otherwise in the technique. This can be applied to Advanced and Custom Elements that are composed of basic elemental affinities.

Personal Summoning Specialist:

You can have one summon with you at all times. In case of Custom made summons, from Canon or Custom Contracts, you have the monopoly of that summon, and other users of the contract may not utilize it when facing you in battle, or in the NW until your defeat.

Shadow Clone Specialist:

You can have Shadow Clones and variants that return up to 50% more chakra when dispersed. This also allows you to create 1 more Shadow Clone than normal.

Increased Tracking Specialist:

Limited to Taijutsu-related Specialties, including Kenjutsu and Bujikutsu. x1.5 tracking. Not compatible with Genjutsu-related Specialties.

Combat Specialist:

Limited to Taijutsu related Specialties. Kenjutsu and Taijutsu increases passively by 10 damage.

Genjutsu Range Specialist:

You can perform Genjutsu with one extra range added on. This does not apply to Genjutsu that are able to prevent at least two forms of Genjutsu Break.

Genjutsu Defense Specialist:

Limited to Genjutsu-related specialist. You can have a Genjutsu immunity of up to C rank, being immune to basic Genjutsu of that rank and lower.

Damage Resistance:

Your body is capable of reducing D rank damage ( 10 damage ) from Ninjutsu/Taijutsu attacks, from physical elements and ninjutsu skills and taijutsu skills that you specialize in.

Genjutsu Casting Specialist:

Limited to Genjutsu-related specialist. You are able to cast Genjutsu with only 1 seal, lowering the requirements for casting to just 1 seal unless specific triggers are required.

I bolded the taijutsu oriented ones since that's something you've expressed interest in. But, you could always choose another type of specialty as well since only you can determine how you're going to RP. There's a LOT of customization when making your bio, and I think that makes the game really exciting :p.

Do any of the specialties look interesting to you? Do you have any questions about any of them?

I'll just go with Jyuuken. Have another idea for a fighting mode/style for later. Senjutsu might also be an option though I haven't settled yet. Seems like it would be fun though.

Tracking and combat look the most interesting to me. Tracking would work well with Byakugan I feel.

I do have a question regarding Genjutsu. How is breaking or noticing Genjutsu determined?

Sorry about the delay

So, basically, since you have a Byakugan, you can simply look at yourself and determine whether or not your chakra system is disturbed. When you're placed in a genjutsu, the flow of your chakra changes, and a Byakugan will be able to determine this change. However, you need to keep in mind that you still need a valid reason to look at your chakra circulatory system. The byakugan can be used as a confirmation. It's important to note, the most important part of breaking a genjutsu is the deduction -- actually determining that you're in a genjutsu. So, most genjutsus are pretty easy to determine and break, because they have some logical inconsistency. For example:

( Genjutsu: Jigoku Gouka ) - Illusion Technique: Hell Fire
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points:N/A
Description: The user casts an illusion where the opponent sees a huge ball of fire descending from the sky and enveloping its target.

With this genjutsu, note that you just see a giant ball of fire. You don't feel the heat associated with such a huge flaming object, it's not expelled from anything, it just *magically* appears. So, if I were defending against this genjutsu, I would say something like:

"In order to determine that I'm in a genjutsu, I examine the ball of fire approaching me. As it nears, I feel no form of heat emanating from the large ball of flame. Additionally, it does not seem to be effecting the environment at all. Suspecting a genjutsu, I'd then take a small kunai and make a shallow cut along my forearm. The spike of pain serves to 'shock' me out of the genjutsu."

In this situation, I deduced that I was in a genjutsu and simply used pain in order to break it. However, you should know that the level of pain required to break a gen increases with the rank and power of the genjutsu.

This is the best thread that exists on the subject of genjutsu: https://animebase.me/threads/illusionary-arts.395771/

Read the sections on breaking and deducing gen, and ask me if you have any questions.

Okay, next we will discuss bio ranks:

Academy Student:
  • The default bio rank

  • Base health = 35 / Base chakra = 300
  • 2 basic elements + 1 basic ninja skill up to C-ranks
  • Able to submit up to C-rank customs of any learned fields

Genin:
  • Rank-up from Academy Student requires completion of 4 D/C-rank missions and/or battles

  • Base health = 75 / Base chakra = 600
  • 3 basic elements + 2 basic ninja skills up to B-ranks
  • Able to submit up to B-rank customs of any learned fields

Chūnin:
  • Rank-up from Genin requires completion of any combination of 5 B/A-rank missions and/or battles

  • Base health = 100 / Base chakra 1,000
  • 4 basic elements + 4 basic ninja skills up to A-ranks (1 basic element up to S-ranks)
  • Able to submit up to A-rank customs of any learned fields

Jōnin:
  • Rank-up from Chūnin requires completion of any combination of 6 S-rank missions and/or battles

  • Base health = 160 / Base chakra = 1,600
  • 5 basic elements + 4 basic ninja skills up to F-ranks
  • Able to have a third bio
  • Able to submit up to F-rank customs of any learned fields

Sage:
  • Rank-up from Jōnin requires completion of a sage mission or purchase for 25,000 kumi

  • Base health = 200 / Base chakra = 2,000
  • Able to submit a custom clan (CC)
  • Able to learn a third custom fighting style (CFS)
  • Able to make use of a potential fifth custom element (CE) on a bio
  • Able to submit up to 4 CJ instead of the norm (3 per cycle)
  • CJ limit increases to 45, up from the standard cap of 35

These are pretty cut and dry. Ocassionally, you can 'win' rank ups by performing well in tournaments or NW events. Or, even with random events like trivias or lotteries. If you don't have any questions about them, we'll move onto Missions, Battle Rules, and then a miscellaneous section where you can ask general questions. The end is in sight, I promise!

This I'm already familiar with. I've been working on my rank up for my bios.

Only question is do you have to win the battle for it to count towards your promotion? I'm sure it does with Missions, but you gotta win the battle yea?

No, if you want to earn the maximum amount of Kumi from your battle you have to win (though you'll still earn some even if you lose). However, if you're just using the battle for a rank up, you can use battles where you've lost. As long as you perform well in those fights, it doesn't really matter whether or not you win, you just have to display skill that corresponds with the desired rank.

Alright, now we'll talk about the cornerstone of the RP, battling.

In our RP, we have a turn-based system. Since it's text based, we use a simple time-frame system.

In terms of battles, before you begin, you have to determine the type of battle you want, so it's recommended that you use this format when making a new battle thread:
  • Terrain: You and your partner(s) must decide on a terrain which you will battle on and additionally the weather. This does not mean that the field and weather can't change through the use of a jutsu.
  • Range: Where both of you exactly stand. Short ( 0 to 5 meters ) , medium ( 5 to 15 meters ) or long range from each other ( 15+ meters )?
  • Element & Jutsu Usage: You can choose which and how many elements you want to use in a battle (from the ones you learned), but also whether custom jutsu's/elements are allowed or not.
  • Type of Battle: Choose the type of battle you want. No restrictions, taijutsu battle, ninjutsu only battle, team battle, etc.
  • Bio: Agree on which bio each participant uses.
After deciding these details, you and your opponent then determine who goes first in the battle. Remember that in a fight, each player has a maximum of three moves per turn that you can do. That's very important, the key number is three jutsus/techniques.

Lets say that you have the second move in a fight:

When replying, keep in mind that your character's sequence of events can only begin after the first aggressive action that the opponent initiates. That can be a jutsu being used, your opponent running towards you (if it's a taijutsu fight), them throwing a weapon/tool at you, etc. Regardless, replying before the first aggressive action will always result in a time-frame break.

Are ya with me so far?

Understood, though the time frame stuff has always been a bit hard to wrap my head around.

When outside sources such as summons or ninken come into play, do those also count towards your action total?

For example:

Inuzuka casts first jutsu
Inuzuka casts second jutsu
Ninken attacks
Inuzuka casts third jutsu

or would the Inuzuka be limited to 2 jutsu + the Ninken attack?

And how are Ninken attacks measured as far as damage and such goes?

So ima be taking this over my guy. I'm Loki, God of Eight Inner Gates, and you're new sensei. You can just call me Scoop-sama though.

Anyway straight to it. When it comes to timeframe it can get tricky, but you can take advantage of having multiple allies on your side. So in the case that you're speaking of, if you have a companion with you, you guys could attack simultaneously in the same timeframe.

I.e. We're fighting each other and i have Vex on my side also.

- You do a fireball

- I do a water wall / Simultaneously Vex puts you in a genjutsu

Both me n vex's actions would happen in the same timeframe since they're done simultaneous to one another. This can be done with clones, summons, Inuzuka dogs, puppets (in cases), allies, "sentient" techniques and pretty much anything acting on its own accord. Altogether only the 3 jutsu limit is allowed still.

Appreciate it, Scoop-Sama :flirt:

Makes sense to me, glad it was clarified because that was something I was initially quite confused on.

How do you decide how someone is .... faster? I know the information on speed, but does it ever make enough of a difference whether someone can physically respond to an attack for example in taijutsu? If you could, give me a scenario or two?

Most of the time in close quarters, speed won't make much of a difference unless you or your opponent is much much faster than the other. More so when someone can't track the other person is when speed actually makes a difference.

Something from Reborn referring to speed and reaction:

"If opponent A is moving beyond opponent B's tracking ability by any margin within short range, opponent B cannot react period. Short range is designated to be 0 - 5 meters, such a small gap of space, if opponent B cannot track then they're sitting ducks.

If opponent A is moving beyond opponent B's tracking ability by a margin greater than 5, within 6 to 15 meters, opponent B can at least use techniques that do not require hand seals and at most use one to three (two and three acceptable beyond 10m or so). "

So even though that's small it gives you a little view of what would be acceptable blitz wise or reacting to a blitz.

Ok dope. So next we'll cover the Ninja world (Or "NW) for short) then go with Customs last.

So the Ninja World is simply an open World for you to do as you please, though there's a few rules, which I'll get to later. First we'll go over:

- Story Arcs
- Missions
- Clans
- Villages

I personally think you should know what a story arc is first so that's what is gonna head this little description. Basically story arcs are just what it sounds like. There's "Arcs" to our world system that last roughly a month at a time, but can last longer if needed or the mods see fit. In each arc a rp'er can only have one bio active, which can only be switched out during breaks between each arc. So choose who you wanna go in the NW with because not only do you have to wait to switch but also you'd lose all progress you've made if you switched. So like you'd lose artifacts (will delve into artifacts later) and crap like that, which the old bio got during previous arcs. So usually each arc has a little bit of a storyline to it and sometimes even greater rewards when battling or doing missions. All depending on the nature of said arc and if there's an event tied to it.

So like how the second Arc of our Rp was centered around a clan of pure badasses, because of what they had accomplished in the 1st Arc. This clan was "Golden Sabbath", consisting of Howard (Now a kage of Sin Village), Vegeta, Shady Doctor, and Xicer. These dudes claimed mass amounts of lands, bodied others for their territories, destroyed enemy lands, all while becoming the most renowned clan. This put a bounty on their head and Arc 2 consisted on destroying their lands, and collecting their bounties. All this would reward the people whom succeeded in such. Was pretty cool tbh. Especially to have their names added into the lore of the actual rp world. Anyway i think that pretty much shows what an arc is.

Now on to missions. Which I'm not good at lol. I'm more of a fighter. Opening gates and pow pow. Anyways, missions are made by both staff and members (members can make up their own if they are reasonable) to do in the NW for gains such as Artifacts, Ryo and Kumi. Not sure if you're familiar with artifacts or the kumi system so the spoilers give a short overview.

"Relics of a past technological golden age, items and tools shrouded in mystery, planet shaping forces contained within, even medicines and convenient utility - these are what encompass the Artifacts of the Warring States Era. The Artifacts system presents a unique opportunity for all who participate in the daily life of the Warring States Era to acquire unique, powerful, and useful items."

This system will reward players for various activities a certain amount of Kumi that can be used for a variety of purposes, like buying abilities, betting on battles/events, interaction with other RPers, and general Warring States Era usage, such as for diplomacy, artifacts acquiring and trade. New roleplayers with an approved biography begin with 3,000 kumi and those with bios prior to this begin with 1,000 kumi.

Official Battles: Earning Kumi through Official Battles can be done in either the Battle Arena or the Ninja World. Earning Kumi through these battles requires that you win the battle. Fighting an opponent of equal rank will award the winner with 500 Kumi. This increases or decreases by 50 Kumi per rank. For example, a Chunin neating a Genin would gain 450 Kumi. One can also make bets with others in order to acquire more Kumi by betting on battles and events. In the case that a member wins via time limit, he or she will only gain half of the kumi that they would normally gain from winning the battle.

Storyboard Missions: The Warring States Era will introduce Storyboard Missions, allowing roleplayers to create their own missions through a various story elements and tailor their own story out of them. Completing these missions and satisfying their objectives will award players with an amount of Kumi depending on the difficulty of the mission. If missions aren't fully completed, such as lacking the storyboard requirement, or are carried out in negative ways, such as metagaming, powerplaying, godmodding, etc, one is subject to gaining half or less Kumi for completion and in the case of metagaming, etc, one may potentially lose Kumi.

D-rank = 250 kumi

C-rank = 450 kumi

B-rank = 650 kumi

A-rank = 1,000 kumi

S-rank = 1,500 kumi"

Missions are pretty simple, especially if you're good at detail or story telling. You'll basically you'll choose from a list of "storyboard missions" that are premade like:

D-rank:

- Explore a landmark
- Gather resources from the land
- Do a good deed

C-rank:

- Explore an abandoned site
- Trail an individual without being detected
- Defend yourself from wild beasts

And they'll get harder like:

S-rank:

- Win a fight without your ninjutsu
- Fight an enemy much stronger than yourself
- Save a large community from danger
- Survive a near-death situation

There's no actual word count or bench mark for each mission other than successfully completing what is stated. But some 4 sentences for an S rank probably won't be a pass lol try to be detailed and actually explore the story a bit.

There's also custom storyboard missions that you can do by making them yourself as you go. There's also clan missions, and village missions which we'll get to on those 2 topics.

So an example of starting your rp is here also:

"This post marks the beginning of my (our) mission using these storyboard elements:
-Save a large community from danger (5)
-Survive a near-death situation (5)
-Convince a criminal to confess (3)
Summary: This mission will be about saving a local village from destruction at the hands of dangerous bandits. After surviving a near-death situation while fighting the bandits, I will capture one and then convince them to confess to who ordered the attack or who their employer is.

[RP begins here]"

Hmm so i think that's it on missions.

Now clans, rogues and villages. Villages are the more simple to understand imo since the series was based around a village system. A village is basically a ninja economy system where it revolves around shinobi being the main workforce and protectors. Villages have their own missions available made by the Kage and their council. The village gets 50k kumi to give to ppl whom complete village missions so it's really a come up in my eyes lol. I think a village is the best route for new ppl because their usually organized and ran by very knowledgeable and skilled players. Along with this there's usually pretty good members that are helpful, and I've always found that people excel when they rp alongside more people within the nw. There are 4 available Villages in this rp:

Tanagakure (Hidden valley)
Kage: Vex "The Snake" Bush
Link to kage: https://animebase.me/members/vex.142961/

Shimogakure (Hidden Frost?)
Kage: Zee "Finesse Queen" Doctor
Link to kage: https://animebase.me/members/zatanna.115479/

Taiyogakure (Hidden in Sunlight)
Kage: Scaze "God Cerberus"
Link to kage: https://animebase.me/members/scaze.70437/

Tsumigakure (Hidden Sin)
Kage: Howard (No nickname needed. The only man that worked to create his village)
Link to kage: https://animebase.me/members/howard.43780/

You can contact any of them about joining if you want. Clans and rogues basically play hand and hand at this point. Rogues are basically members that aren't part of villages. They can go about doing what they feel like, such as missions etc. Clans are simply an official group of people whom aren't in a village. This is usually a group of 3-5 people from what I've seen and they can rank up by doing missions/clan Missions in route to becoming a village. This is strongly based on the clans in the manga/anime, they were lone clans and ended up forming konoha after a while. More info can be found in the link below in detail.

https://animebase.me/threads/ninja-world-guidelines-and-rules.757182/post-21749803

Let me know if you have any NW questions at this time.

I'm familiar with the NW system and Missions. I've completed 2 already.
I only received 1,000 Kumi, but I'm not entirely sure when that change was made.
My Inuzuka is in Scaze's village though as well.

Now with traveling, it's an hour wait in between locations correct? With a character's first post, you can just plop them somewhere though right? As long as it's not claimed by a Clan/Village? Spawn them, so to speak?
