Madara is evil in a behind-the-scenes-mastermind kinda way, but he's no where near as sinister as Orochimaru was. Orochimaru is the type of evil that just makes your skin crawl and actually makes you scared of what he'll do next
First of all, no matter anyone says, I am a supporter for Orochimaru. And I'll agree to hell and back with anyone who says Orochimaru is/was underrated.
He didn't say he was "immortal". He was referring to Orochimaru's soul transfer technique. We know it's not immortality but that is what Orochimaru called it; it was his immortality jutsu in the sense that he has beaten old age.
Orochimaru did NOT attempt to summon the 4th. Go read the manga. The number "4" does NOT show up in the manga. It is only shown in the anime which is where everyone started with the assumptions. It didn't fail because he couldn't do it. It was prevented by Hiruzen. There are tons of other powerful Konoha shinobi that could have been in that coffin. For example, Konoha's White Fang. He was extremely respected and very very powerful. He was even on the same level of respect as the Sannin. He could easily have been a candidate.
Orochimaru had hands when he fought Naruto. But he was no where near 100%. You're only using the negative to represent Orochimaru. He was on drugs and was bed-ridden for more than half the manga with his illness. He was sick. That's why he was so weak towards the latter half of the story. Even still, the fact that even in this weakened state he was able to go toe to toe with a 4-tails havoking Kyuubi is testament to his strength
Orochimaru may not be the strongest but he is without a very very powerful shinobi with more than a few tricks up his sleeve, and without a doubt the best villain thus far. Even more so than Madara.
