I got into One Piece a little while back, I watched solidly the start of the anime up until the mid-point of the Loguetown arc. I liked what I saw but I felt like it might've gone a tad too slowly as I really just wanted to get further into the series. Moments like VS Kuro and VS Don I felt like went on a bit longer than they should've.

I was wondering if during early One Piece, it's better for me to pick up where I left off with the manga or the anime. I understand it's down to personal choice but if there's a better alternative i'd prefer to take it as I realllllly want to keep OP going and hopefully get up to date around the time I leave for University. I of course have no idea what the quality of the anime and the manga are like so some guidance would be appreciated & rep'd

Based on my likes and dislikes of what i've seen so far, which do you think I should pick?

Things I like:
-I LOVE the feel of a new arc and the sense of adventure, travelling & worldbuilding the series has.
-I can stand filler & maybe even love it if I DONT KNOW IM WATCHING FILLER (mistake I made with Naruto)
-I adore Luffy and his voice. His actress is fantastic and Luffy is a huge part of my love for the series.
-RECURRING VILLAINS!

Things I don't like:
-Anime's pacing can at times be slow, bearable- but slow. That feel I love of starting a new arc can happen more often if the arcs end quicker.
-Some early villains...REALLY suck.
-The idea of speedreading/speedwatching although it's all I really want to do.

I am thinking of this as a long-term thing, especially as there's smaller animes around i'd like to try too and after Xmas i'll be overloaded with things to watch hopefully

Go read manga till you get to Alabasta. Then start watching anime, as it gets better and better. Every arc is better then the previous one, trust me on this one :).

I enjoyed the Manga more so than the Anime. Then again, that is the case with most of the series I've watched, so I may not be the best person to answer a question like this. :b

I love manga more, I love manga more in general :p

If you have the time: Watch the anime no doubt. Everything in color and motion will make it a better experience. Just skip the fillers.

If you want to catch up fast: Read the manga and you will be there much faster.

Hope I helped :)

I dropped OP a long time ago, but from my experience their budget for the anime was a lot lower during it's early stages, but as they went on to become one of the big 3 the quality of their animation improved. Imo switch to the anime as you get later on, that girl's boobs get bigger.

I enjoyed the anime more than the manga, but both are great. What's important is that you pick the one you think is going to make you enjoy the story more.

Both, the anime and manga are awesome, I watched all eps up until the recent ones and still do every Sunday and I read the manga, both are well worth it.

Ps. There are no fillers in the OP anime, right now the manga is a little bit into the Dressrosa arc and the anime will start the dressrosa arc next Sunday. The anime can seem a bit drawn out but only when you get to the current arc but you'll have tons of anime episodes to watch in a row so that shouldn't bother you :D.

There ARE fillers in the anime, atleast around 20 episodes. Also the manga is far superior, the anime doesn't do the manga justice in my opinion. Very slow pacing and at times horrible animation.

Honestly never noticed, 20 out of 623 is not even worth mentioning imo.

Thanks for the advice guys, I think i'm going to try the anime once again. I'll continue and finish the Loguetown arc and if it doesn't go well i'll shift over to the manga, no point half-watching something.

Though when Crocodile shows up (when I hear the show becomes srs business) the anime seems more fitting

For the fights, watch the anime. For the story, watch the manga. I'm currently reading the manga, and I've caught up much faster than if I watched the anime. There're a lot of useless extra things that they add in the anime, and the manga gives yout he option to skip them.
