Ay was up against 10 Sharingan eyes and the only reason he got caught was because he was not paying attention.
Just because Obito didn't use genjutsu doesn't make it a plot shield. The manga stated all ninja during the 3rd war were given a "flee on sight" order against Minato, not all ninja but genjutsu users. The fact Obito didn't use genjutsu against Minato even though he knew Minato, trained under him, and prep to face him tell us genjutsu wouldn't have worked.
