I never said you didn't understand that Oda did it on purpose. I said Oda make a character that was supposed to be ugly and disappointing, and that our comments saying he was ugly and disappointing wasn't complaining about that fact, but that Oda established that fact well.

Would I have preferred a badass looking character, yes. Am I upset he was not, no.

I'm fine about having an opinion about a characters design, I just think it's stupid to be salty after Oda hyped Raizou like some legendary badass only to reveal him like this, which ultimately was the whole point.

There is a difference in thinking something is nice, pretty, cool, stupid or ugly. And expecting that you can trust Oda that Raizou would look something like an Uchiha on steroids.

So if you would like to criticize his looks, characteristics or whatever please join the debate and use this thread what is made for.

Listen dude, this is getting old and in your blind and salty rage you're forgetting what already has been discussed (AGAIN). My first line directed towards you was:

well in One Piece you have a 50/50 chance to become an awesome character or look like a gimmick. And he even jokes with it because even Usopp was expecting more.

Don't get salty because Oda trolled you by hyping him as a real ninja for 5 chapters and you took the bait. You should've known better.

It's not even about how bad the character looks anymore, it just looks childish and boring, like wtf I can surely see oda drawing a more humanely looking character, in fact, no not even that, eve if they had a shape of an octagon I would have still like if he was designed otherwise. Not a single person said this. Ever. Nor are we acting like this. This is a One Piece Chapter 817 Discussion thread. It's meant for us to discuss something that happened in the chapter, and express on our opinions on them. And something that happened in this chapter is the reveal of Raizou's appearance. So we are commenting on that, and it's an ugly design, so we are calling it ugly.

Something I've noticed is that whenever a person says character XYZ is ugly when he's first revealed is people like you and Love Cook going "Oda introduces ugly characters all the time, why are you surprised?" But whenever a chapter is super funny and people point out they found it super funny, no one goes "Oda does funny stuff all the time, why are you surprised?" When a character's design is badass, like Kaidou's, and people say they find it badass, no one goes "Oda makes badass characters all the time." When people love the action of a chapter, no one goes "Oda makes awesome action all the time, why are you surprised?" Because none of those are surprise and Oda doing what we didn't expect, it's because it's something that happened in the chapter, and this thread is meant to talk about the things that have happened in this chapter.

You and Love Cook don't have to jump to dispute any and everything you see.


Didn't even get to this part of the post when I wrote the last section, but welp, there it is. Next time I see people commenting on anything that happens in a chapter, I'll just reply "Oda has done this before, why are you commenting on it?"

Why is calling an ugly character ugly an issue? He was drawn intentionally to be an ugly letdown. Comments saying that he's ugly or disappointing are simply acknowledging that Oda accomplished what he was going for.

At this point you are just picking fights for the sake of picking fights all around the forum. You are one step away from receiving a ban as the reports and complaints about you are flooding in.

The only thing I asked was that I didn't get why so many people were complaining to such a degree as it was something neither particularly unusual nor unexpected, still people were going that the entire chapter was ruined. How long have you been reading OP? It would be more correct to say that expecting Raizou not to be some kind of caricature would have been weird rather than the opposite. This aspect of the series is also one of the primary things that gets criticized by people who don't like OP. Yes he isn't particularly handsome, I never stated the opposite, but seriously Oda has been making characters like Raizou ever since he started the series, hence my question which wasn't aimed at anyone in particular nor was it offensive in any kind of way. But for some irrational reason you reacted highly aggressively, started swearing and bashing Raizou like he personally insulted your mother. I mean he "sounds ugly"? A manga is a stupid medium, everyone sounds the same =/ And do I need to remind you that character bashing is against the rules or is your memory that flawed? I'm not going to bother if someone just calls him ugly, but the way you are going it seems you are having a personal vendetta against him. And he wasn't drawn to be a letdown, what is wrong with you?

You can't even say anything without majorly contradicting yourself as following your own logic my question was perfectly justified as I asked it because I found the reactions different from how they normally are, which is what you describe inadvertently as being the purpose for this thread.
