"One Piece"Luffy and Hiroshi Abe to Co-Star in "Yonimo Kimyou Na Monogatari” TV Drama
It is officially announced today that Monky D. Luffy, the protagonist of the One Piece series, co-stars with 50-year-old actor Abe Hiroshi (Thermae Romae) in an episode "Gomu Gomu no Otoko" (A Rubberman) of the upcoming live-action TV drama special "Yonimo Kimyou Na Monogatari” (Tales Of The Extremely Bizarre).
The manga artist-themed TV special is produced in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of Fuji TV's drama series started in April 1990, and is scheduled to be aired at 9:00 pm on April 11 (JST). The story itself isn't written by the original manga author Eiichiro Oda. This is the second time for the drama to feature an anime character in the story, since Chibi Maruko-chan's Maruko in April 2010.
Abe plays a young leader of a Japanese yakuza group. After severely wounded in deadly battle with a
hostile organization and being barely able to walk, he is forced to be hospitalized. In the hospital, he
accidentally eats a Gomu Gomu no Mi (Gum-Gum Fruit), which Luffy ate in the One Piece story, and
becomes a rubberman like Luffy. With its special power, he tries to rouse himself, but his group has
already started treating him as a nuisance. Then he meets Luffy from the One Piece world in reality and
learns what the most important thing in his life is.
