One Piece 'Hijacks' All Shueisha Magazines in February

Cover art, bonuses, giveaways in all manga, literature, women's, news mags from publisher

To celebrate the 200 millionth copy of Eiichiro Oda's One Piece manga in print, the manga's main lead Luffy will "hijack" the covers of all the magazines that Shueisha publishes between January 31 and February 28 of next year. That includes all of Shueisha's manga, literature, women's and news magazines. The announcement was made in next year's combined 3rd/4th issue (pictured at right) of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, which went on sale on Monday.

During the campaign, all of these magazines will include original One Piece goods such as postcards as bonus supplements. They will also offer mail-away presents such as reproductions of original manga art and signed shikishi (sketch boards) to their readers.

This year's eighth issue of Shueisha's Weekly Playboy magazine printed the results of its survey of which manga character that men in their 20s want as their girlfriend on February 7. The results from 1,000 regular manga readers nationwide are as follows:

1. Nami (One Piece)
2. Nico Robin (One Piece)
3. Boa Hancock (One Piece)
4. Tsukasa Nishino (Ichigo 100%)
5. Minami Asakura (Touch)

One Piece also Hijacks the subway ! all for oda ~! 200.000.000 COPIES!

Trains decked out in Oda Eiichirou's "ONE PIECE" manga panels made its debut on the Tokyo Yamanote Line on the 17th. All 11 carriages of trains plying the line have "ONE PIECE" plastered all over them, from the exterior to hanging posters within the train itself, as well as all screens. These trains will run for a limited period, until the 1st of March.

As part of the celebratory campaign for "ONE PIECE" selling over 200 million copies, this project is entitled "Gomunote Line" (literally Rubber Hand Line, a on the original Yamanote Line). The first and last carriages have posters of when "ONE PIECE" hijacked Shibuya, Tokyo in early February. The remaining carriages are each dedicated to each member of the Strawhat Pirates and is decorated with them as the theme. The carriages go in the order: Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, Robin, Franky and Brook. Publisher Shueisha said, "We'd like fans to be polite when enjoying them."

The Japanese publisher Shueisha is producing 3.8 million copies of the 61st volume of Eiichiro Oda's One Piece pirate manga — the latest of six volume in the series to set a manga record for the most copies in its first printing. The volume is shipping on Friday.

The previous volume, volume 60, held the former record of 3.4 million copies. It sold 2,094,123 copies in its first four days of sales last November, and sold at least 2,803,817 copies as of this past Sunday, January 30. All told, over 200 million copies of the entire manga series have been printed; One Piece has had the highest number of copies printed of any Shueisha manga series.

Update: While One Piece has the highest number of copies printed of any Shueisha manga series, the producers of the live-action Dragonball: Evolution film said that the Dragon Ball manga had 350 million copies worldwide from different publishers. Thanks, Ktimene's Lover.

One piece is STILL ! growing in popularity , Soon Dragon ball's record will be down

(in some way it already is because it was published by multiple publishers) And I think it helped a lot that DBZ was very populai in the states too. Go Oda !
