More like a misinterpretation. This idea comes from the initial spoilers, which often tend to lack nuance and context, and people went with it before the actual chapter was released.

Lots has happened in this chapter...When I saw how Shakky was talking about Rayleigh, I sort of suspected that they had history. But, yeah, not what we just saw.
Xebec, what a pirate...I've never imagined him being like this. It makes wander why his son is not as fit as him... Reading this chapter it makes me disliking Blackbeard less than before

Personally, I don't feel any particular sympathy towards Blackbeard considering he backstabbed WB, killed one nakama and delivered another one to the WG. If you then take into account how loyal WB acted towards Rocks....

Yes, you are personally right. But seeing him in this chapter, when he was very young. I would say that he was influenced by those events, and I am sure there are more to come to cement my theory...
