we don't actually know when the cover story is taking place, since it's a journey it started before DR begain because DR has been going on for what? a day?

and Jinbe really can't travel that far in a day, the cover arc started before Dressrosa started

todays cover story panel seems to coincide with the time in the main story when the newspaper was released

hmmmmmmmm that's a nice find.
i guess we shouldnot consider the cover of chapter 760 cannon.
*insert all the facepalm gifs in the world*

The discussion of whether something is or isn't canon reached it's climex with the most stupid comment of the decade. Oda's ink is barely dry as we read that page and you dare to say that isn't canon material.

In the cover story with Caribou he drew the exact same tree on the cover that he drew in his manga years ago. He doesn't forget stuff like that so do you really think if he deliberately shows us Jinbei reading that news at that point in time that he would screw up the most important part of the page ?

It even states at the side: Who will win the mera mera no mi. This tells us that Jinbei is already long on his way while all of the current events are happening. This could mean that he could show up during the end of this arc. It would also explain where he was in the mean time.

So that's why it's canon. Because it's important
