Im pretty sure Itachi said that to Kisame to have an excuse to retreat and abort the mission. It was all planned by him, since he didnt want to capture Naruto, i think the genjutsu to the girl aswell was not to take Jiraiya out of the picture, but just for him to notice Naruto was in danger, well thats my theory because im pretty sure Itachi is stronger than Jiraiya.

Actually, by using Sharingan Itachi can easily tame any of Jiraiyas summons (just like Sasuke did with Manda). For example, he can take control over one of elder forgs on Jiraiyas arms and make it to decapitate old pervy.

Jiraiya is extremely underrated on this site. While i don't believe he would beat itachi, it would be an extremely hard fought fight. Itachi would win, but with extreme difficulty.

first off, don't compare sasuke ability with itachi' 2 diff thing's

GEN JUTSU SPECAILIST did you not pay any attention to what they said when training naruto gosh i swear most of you guys make up your own stuff and skip things that kishi himself write.
3. in sage mode jiraiya is fast in his hand seal's for jutsu(guess what he doesn't even need to form hand seal's the frogs does it for him, and don't forget he build up chakra faster and double the amount he normal has in sage mode gosh just read the book before replying to my sht. you guys are seriously underestimating Jiriaya it took 5 of pain to take him out since he "killed one" and don't even try to feed me crap about itachi take out pein we both know pain was distracted and being control by someone who doesn't even know the full capability's of pein, so seriously man "READ what your itachi him self said what would happen, and what jiraiya said what would happen-because i am sure 10 out of 10 they did not make it up it was kishi himself who wrote it ok nice day to you.

You posted a manga page where Kisame said what was up with him and why he had to retreat? Well, think about it, he had already used a bunch of chakra on Sasuke using his eye technique. And the only way to get out of the toad environment genjustu was to use amerastu.

That alone makes him use most of his chakra. He isn't stupid. Why would he risk fighting Jiraiya with extremely limited chakra and only Kisame to back him up? Plus Jiraiya said no one had ever escaped from the toad trap he had set up. meaning if he didn't use amerastu to get out, he would have died in there along with Kisame.

So in reality this doesn't prove Jiraiya stronger. It just states that Itachi was weak from using his MS already and didn't want to risk himself to a near-death fight. He said it himself,

Im only stating a fact. Itachi said that even more backup wouldnt change outcome of battle. So Im asking you: do you really believe that Jiraiya can take on Itachi, Kisame and lets say Sasori and Deidara and win? I dont think so, considering that Itachi alone has technique that is OHKO for Jiraiya (Amaterasu). When one kage-level shinobi faces four kage-level shinobis the outcome of battle is very clear. Itachi was simply overstating Jiraiyas strenght.

Sasuke tamed Manda via genjutsu, and Itachi is superior in that apsect when you compare him to his younger bother.

Just like Manda is no ordinary snake. So what id they are gen-specialist? So is Kurenai or Shii, yet genjutsu worked just fine on them. Genjutsu masters sre not immune to genjutsu, unless they have Sharingan, that is.

To seal Amaterasu Jiraiya had to:
1. Pull out the scroll
2. Kneel on the ground with scroll
3. Write sealing formula on it
4. And only then he was able to seal Amaterasu. Something like that is simple impossible to do during combat, let alone when you are facing Amaterasu.
