I'm throwing this idea out there due to the direction I've seen the series take and a few facts/tropes I'd like to point out for the rest of you just to get a generalized opinion.
(WARNING: It is unwise to proceed without refreshment as this post will be long).
Few people will disagree that Naruto is the central focus on this series. Otherwise, why the name sake? If you accept that premise, let us also agree upon who the primary villain of this series is. Again, easy answer, I think most will agree it is Tobi.
Naruto and Tobi stand as opposite ends of coin. As Konan so aptly put it in her final battle with Tobi, he is Darkness and Naruto is light. Naruto's Nin-do, his way of the ninja, is to always have hope, or never give up. That is why he has to be the #1 most unpredictable ninja. You never know how far Naruto will go to save someone else.
Tobi, alternatively, is hatred incarnate. Someone, somewhere, caused this little rascal significant mental trauma to the point where he decided his Moon's eye plan is the best thing for all humanity. Tobi is a megolomaniac who wants complete control of people to stop bloodshed.
On a side note, this train of thought leads me to believe Tobi is in fact Madara's younger brother. Madara demonstrated in his fight at an Edo against the 5 kages that he knows who Tobi is; alas, he has not shared that information with the audience. Yet, I disgress...
It is clear that Tobi would like to become the new sage of 6 pathes in order to meet his ultimate goal... Which leads to my ultimate question.
As Tobi's clear foil, is Kishi setting up Naruto to potentially become the new Sage of 6 pathes and defeat Tobi? It stands to reason lately...
The recent developments with Itachi claiming the existence of a new Sharingan oriented issue, this "Izanami", got me thinking. Itachi seems able to use this Izanami without the use of Senju DNA, whereas Madara can only use the Forbidden Jutsu Izanagi while in possession of Senju DNA. Itachi claimed this jutsu "paired" with Izanagi, perhaps also two sides of the same coin.
Explanation of Ocular Power Theory
Now for the clincher, let us assume that Senju has something in its DNA that is required to use Izanagi, but no ocular powers so even if they are capable it is like having ammo but no gun.
This metaphor explains why Itachi might be able to use Izanami. The Uchiha possess within them the innate ability to use Izanami as well as the gun(Ocular powers). With a gun, one can fire Izanagi as well, but without Senju DNA they do not have the proper ammo.
These frames might help you to see that Izanagi and Izanami as "pairs" explain the SO6P's "Ying Yang Elemental." The Izanagi is the imagination or the Yin and the Izanami likely has to do with some sort of physical power or its counter part the "Yang"
That was a lot of text, with me so far?
If you accept this premise, let us look at the characters in the Manga now. For Naruto to achieve Madara's goal before him, Naruto would need the tailed beasts (Physical manifestations of the SO6P's power) and Ocular powers. Since Naruto seems to be gaining the trust of the beasts in his fight with Madara, he would first need to free them and then need some Sharingan or Rinnegan.
One trope that we've seen is that when eyes are exchanged to a new owner, they gain power. See Madara and his brother, Itachi and Sasuke, or even Obito and Kakashi (Anyone else wondering why Kakashi doesn't go blind with all those uses of his Mangekyou!?!?).
It then stands to reason that exchanged eyes might also be able to evolve from EMS to Rinnegan. Were Itachi able to convince Sasuke to stop his crusade on the leaf... Then later have some sort of accident... If you had to pick one person in the whole anime whom he might want to give his eyes too... Who would it be? =P
There is no other way for Naruto to be able to counter Tobi as he has almost achieved sagedom. He has Rinnegan and most of the beasts. If we assume SOMEONE in this anime is going to become a sage, well, Naruto is the obvious candidate being the name sake of the series. Clearly, for a sage to be born that isn't Madara, Sasuke has to die. (Or become it, but this is less likely).
Thats enough for my initial thesis... Go.

Explanation of Ocular Power Theory
We know now that the Rinnegan are nothing more than advanced Sharingan. This is evident because Madara unlocked Rinnegan towards the end of his life and was able to use them in his Edo form. Despite no longer posessing Sharingan, Madara was able to use Susanoo in his fight with the Kage. Using this logic, it stands to reason that a user of the Rinnegan possesses all the powers of a Sharingan as well. If this is the case, Sasuke has the ability to unlock the Rinnegan himself.
For a moment, let us forget about Uchiha and Senju and focus on where these powers come from, the two sons of the sage of the 6 pathes who each got 1/2 the Sage's power.
