On top of all of that. HE WAS AN OLD MAN WHEN WE SAW HIM. In his prime he would probably have beaten every current non-Edo ninja other than maybe Naruto and Sasuke. And he would have had a chance against them with his intelligence and sealing tech.

Hiruzen is definitely the fourth strongest kage in my opinion, but if Hiruzen doesn't do anything with the staff that impresses me......well he will remain the fourth strongest.

There are many who believe Hiruzen is weak. However I would like to prove them wrong. Anime and Manga are counted, if you have a problem deal with it.

Basic Information:

- 2 elements earth and fire

- 34 total in databook stats

- The Professor: due to his mastery of all forms of shinobi combat, and his vast knowledge of techniques, purportedly knowing all the techniques within Konoha.

- Once called the God of Shinobi

Prowess

Keen Sense:
This man was immensely strong for his old age. He was able to overcome the Bringer of Darkness (which can be a counter of Tsukuyomi), just by his keen sense. How many other people do you know that can chase people down while in genjutsu. Please go ahead and name them.

His Mastery of Katon:
He has used 2 Katon jutsus, which are basically Anbu- level (high jounin level):

Both of these attack are High-jounin level attack.

Mastery of Doton:
Earth Release Shadow Clone

There have been barely any other Doton users able to match his prowess in Doton, (people like Onoki, Akamichi)

Monkey King Enma's staff can take on the Great swords of the 7 swordsmen.

Easily high Jounin level with Weaponry.

Taijutsu:
This man was able to take on edo versions of the hokages (i know they weren't at full power, but still at high jounin level according to the anbu). He was even able to chase them down and also, sneakily place paper bombs on their legs.


CONCLUSION

People will try to argue with statements such as:
"he didn't show anything awesome or w.e"
OR
"The powerscale of the series was different back then."

NO, using power-scale as a excuse to defend Hiruzen is a insult to the character itself, when we in realty know the power-scale was the same (take Itachi for example). ALSO, the thing with "he didn't show anything awesome or w.e" HE COULDN'T why? Because had to finish the match, if he had let it go on, he would've been killed. The suicide/the draw between him and edo Hokages was NECESSARY only way he would've stopped them. So using other techniques for show would've been a waste of time and chakra.

I believe Hiruzen to be the 3rd strongest Hokage, because Tobirama is regarded higher then him in the village. HOWEVER, if Tobirama shows feats less convincing then Hiruzen's in the coming chapters, then I will easily put Hiruzen number 2.

DO NOT THINK HE WAS WEAK.... even the things he did in that fight were SPECTACULAR..

To clarify some things

Earth dragon missile and dragon flame bullet that got combined with earth dragon missile is not in the manga . It is anime only so it's not canon . Also earth flow river and decapitation were also not canon.
