If Shikamaru has achieved encough to become Hokage then Naruto & Sasuke are at Super Hokage level.

Also Shikamaru is alive & not dying because Shikamaru is not fighting at front line. Instead Naruto & Sasuke are fighting at front line with Kakashi,Gai & Edo Hokages.

If Shikamaru has a lot of intelligence (lacking stamina & power) then Naruto & Sasuke have a lot of power plus enough intelligence to fight on with powerful ninjas.

At most Shikamaru can be a head advisor to Hokage intelligence wise but not being a Hokage.

Being Hokage can be absolutely nothing about fighting. A leader has thousands of shinobi under his command and if it is to give Naruto this duty he will pretty much mess it up.

I wonder why you all needed an official manga statement to make this conclusion. Look at this man. He's practically the general of the Allied forces right now of course minus Naruto, Sasuke, Edo-Kages, kakashi etc. I'm excited we'll see one more brilliant plan from him before the series ends. Also, Kishi could've already hinted to us Shikamaru's future tenure as Hokage, maybe even hinting Sasuke & Naruto's death. He is Kishi's favorite character afterall *_*

Let's just take some time to appreciate Shikamaru's feats up until now:

• scored an IQ of 200
• Beat out people like Gaara, Sasuke, Naruto, Neji, Temari, Kankuro etc. to being chunin
• Was put in charge of the Uchiha manhunt
• Became a Chunin exams proctor
• Exploited an Akatsuki memeber's jutsu on the first time witnessing it

• Obito calls Shikamaru a worthy adversary for figuring out what he had planned and has the Statue attack him
• He also came up with the plan to draw circles to prevent the Zetsu ambushes
• Stayed calm after his dad's death, and carried out his last strategy, taking the role as master strategist

In Conclusion: I concur with Temari's statement that Shikamaru Nara has definitely achieved enough to become Hokage, and has perhaps already reached the level of Hokage. Of course Naruto & Sasuke are more powerful, however both of them are at risk of dying. I think Shikamaru is considerably protected by plot. Well thanks for reading if you did! =D

The sole title of hokage is a great responsability. Believe, me, even if he is one of the bests candidates for Konoha, it just... would be a drag for him.

To be Hokage you must have leadership, this is, to have charisma, and trust in other people.

About Sasuke as candidate... he lacks the main thing: Trust in others.

For this reason Sasuke became arrogant and thought he could do everything for himself, his lack of trust in others. Naruto was taught directly by Itachi, and this is the reason of why he let the Shinobi Alliance to help in the war.

Well, Naruto's TnJ is the best in the Shinobi Alliance, so we don't need to say that his charisma is the most powerful in narutoverse. He made friends from enemies, Gaara is one of the main proofs

There is a little article that describes the main features that a leader should have. Sasuke would be a good boss but not a good leader so he is perfect for being a right hand for Naruto, Shikamaru is trustworthy but he lacks the capacity to change people's hearts, so he would be a good advisor/assistant. Naruto works perfectly as a bridge

His intelligence is a Kage Level, but his fighting skill aren't. He isn't even stronger than many of the K12 members, such as Naruto, Sasuke, Lee, Neji, Kiba, Sakura, Hinata...

Thats what you have to understand about Shikamaru. His intelligence and creativity and quick thinking is a big part of his ability. It makes him stronger than opponents who had much stronger and more powerful and difficult jutsu to overcome. Has anybody even beaten him yet?

Shikamaru is an awesome leader(strategist, commanding a team), but if he as hokage, would have to 1 on 1 someone like Madara, Obito, or other S lvl nins, than i think he would need more jutsu. He is just not powerful enough.
Yes he took out Hidan, but Hidan was quite stupid.

I dont think Shikamaru could have taken out any other akatsuki members.

Shikamaru should get the same leader role as his father.

Naruto and Sasuke have the power that Shikamaru lacks.
If Shikamaru wants to be a hokage, than he has to increase his 1 on 1 fighting power or always fight in a team with people that have the power that he lacks.

How often do you see a kage 1 on 1 somebody? The situation alone rarely even occurs between normal shinobi. It's not like, if you are a hokage, you will go solo in the field. You still have your basic 4 man team, besides, the hokage usually remains within the city, so he can protect it. Shikamaru can do that, because of his brilliant mind to mobilize a plan. Also if time comes, where Naruto becomes hokage, he will still need Shikamaru at all time, when he is supposed to think of the correct teams to use for specific missions. He just lacks the brain to do it by himself.

It's true that someone like Naruto/Minato/Hiruzen/etc could protect the village in a different manner, as we have seen before (Hiru vs Oro, Minato vs Kuybi/Obito, Naruto vs Pain), where Shikamaru would have to take a different role/approach to protect the village. But he would also prepare in different ways, since he can't just solo sickos like that, so it would be completely different situation anyway!

I still don't get why you all think Hokage means you're the strongest in the village. J-man was stronger than Tsunade, and I realize that he was offered the role, but at the end of the day, Tsunade is hokage. Being hokage is about protecting your village, she did it by healing. Shikamaru will do it by strategizing. Hashirama tried to do it by Unity. Every Hokage has their own means of handling things besides going head first into the battlefield and soloing.

I wanna shout out to OP for listing Shikamaru's feats. This guy's argument seems to be more the case though. True to his personality imho Shikamaru doesn't really want the title. The whole system is going to change anyway. What makes you think there will even be a Hokage?

If Naruto and Sasuke are in a coma, yeah Shikamaru has the job. Otherwise there's gonna be drama and a k12 reunion class election for it.

Yes shikamaru is quite intelligent that's true however, he lacks charisma to change people hearts and power.
Sasuke is intelligent in or out of battle however, he is arrogant and lack trust.
Naruto is smart and does the necessary skills to become hokage but still act goofy and naive sometimes. Apart from all that, Naruto in all this is still the best candidate to become hokage.

1st query - So you are saying that Hokage Shikamaru will just give orders to all the shinobis under his command and sit on the hokage throne enjoying his shinobis die if any tough battle/war comes up.

2nd query - Why will Naruto mess up the Hokage duty when he is clearly able to work so well with the shinobi alliance in the current war. Not only he is leading the war at front level but also keep guarding the shinobi alliance also boosting their power.

3rd Query - If Shikamaru has to protect the village from serious threats like Nagato/Itachi/Kisame/Oro or some other powerful shinobi then what Shikamaru will just do. Will he send all the shinobis under him to fight them or will he go himself realising that instead of putting his comrades life in danger, he himself should go and fight the opponent.

Now here I am not saying that Naruto is fully ready to become a Hokage but comparing Shikamaru to Naruto - Naruto should be a Hokage & Shikamaru can be his chief counseler/strategy advisor. Not Shikamaru being an Hokage & Naruto being his bodyguard.

Every Hokage not only have intelligence but also must have enough strength. Hokage is the combination of Power, Intelligence, Good nature & Will of Fire as per Narutoverse.

Shikamaru is too weak. If he comes face to face with any unknown strong enemy he will get beat. He's a strategist. His intelligence may help him to formulate strategies to beat someone like Hidan but when he's outclassed in power and jutsu, he's outclassed. He is already on Naruto level with changing the hearts and minds of people since he calmed down and inspired an entire army that wanted to crap their pants.

Intelligence is something that Naruto does not have. Under his command there would be chaos in the battlefield. He fights well now because he does not give orders, nor he is receiving them, he just acts as he pleases.

I think Sakura would own him at this point. She's the only one of the Konoha 11 who could even remotely touch him intellectually and she's stronger than him at this point using what's been shown.

Shiki isnt gonna be hokage, its gonna be Naruto if he makes it to the end. Kishi isnt gonna start building that subplot this far into the book, he wouldve been setting that up throughout the series. We havent even seen shikimaru except twice during the ninja war and before that he hasnt been a relevant character since the hidan and kakuzu arc. Not happening. But I agree, It would make sense. Hell probably end up advisor or something how his dad was.
