i read the thread several times its basically based all of your opinoin and once again it wasnt pointless for him to lose his arm it symbolized alot actually and built basically a life long bond luffy owes shanks his life and will never forget that shanks bet his arm on the nxt era and if you havent guessed by now luffys gonna be the pirate king by the end of one piece im not argruing with you im just telling you 100% factual information

To me Shanks losing an arm is symbolical. Self Sacrifice to save another's life. Oda could've made him use Haki if he wanted, but he didn't, he wanted to get the main theme of this manga to the readers. Doing anything you can to save your Nakama.
