You're just being ignorant of the facts. Kushina stated he could have survived, but he didn't. So he chose to die to defeat the kyuubi that obito summoned. Suicide does not mean victory. Orochimaru caused hiruzen's death, Sasuke caused deidara's death, and Obito caused minato's death.

kushina stated clear as day that minato didnt have to die, which means he successfully defended the village AND survived

minato decided to use reaper death seal before kyuubi even pierce him, which means MINATO CHOSE TO DIE, he was not forced
