I hate the fact that the reason he was elected was mostly due to his race and he isn't even black. I feel like the one drop rule is idiotic and invalid in this day and age . So Obama was the first Bi-racial president of the united states. I'm not saying he has to be midnight dark. All I'm saying is that mixing blue and yellow doesn't give you blue. But whatever just how I feel about it. Still waiting for the first black president......
1) That's not a fact, if anything it's more of a lie you just made up. Yes during the election of his first term the fact that he was 'black' definitely had some kind of influence on his election. But if you think that that alone would be enough to become the president of the mightiest country on earth, then you are naive. Do you now seriously believe that there would be so many people voting on Obama just because of his skin color and that that group would be so large he became president due to it? Then your understanding of politics is very simplistic as there are countless of other factors involved. No doubt there have been people who voted like that for him, but likewise then you need to take into consideration that there have been people who voted against him for that exact same reason.
For his 2nd term that argument doesn't even hold any weight anymore as he was already president for 4 years. If people didn't like his 1st term, they are not going to vote for him just because of his skin color.
So your hating is misplaced as you are hating on a 'fact' you yourself created. It's not like that there weren't such motivations involved, however you are completely pulling them out of proportion.
2) Are you now seriously nitpicking on such trivialities based on your subjective opinion on what 'black' is supposed to be just so that you can say that you are still waiting on the 'first black president'?
I'm not an American, but I assume that what most people mean with 'black' is simply that he clearly isn't caucasian and that he is from African descent one way or another. Not too long ago America was, to put it blunt, quite racist. That someone that is clearly not caucasian succeeded in becoming president and that he has African roots, which gets associated with the American history of slavery, is above all a symbolic statement. Even if Obama isn't the descendant of a slave, even if he doesn't have much in common with the large majority of people of African descent, that all doesn't matter. The point is that the figure of Obama stands symbol for a changing America. All of that is just simplified to a single term: 'black'.
I look at his race when people put a lot of emphasis on it.
You are the one who is placing a lot of emphasis on it by taking that entire 'black' thing literally. Following your logic Obama would be 'black' for you if his skin color would have been two shades darker or that he can provide a family tree that proves he has not been 'mixed' for that many generations. That's just laughable, would you have rather then that he was called the first Toblerone-colored president? The Belgian Chocolate-colored president? The Nougat-colored president? Seriously I can't even believe you went there on what is nothing more than a triviality. If anything you would think him not being 'truly black' would be a statement of the multi-cultural convergence of American society.
Where did I say he should be black? I'm simply stating our current president isn't black. I care because of all the credit he has gotten simply because people think he's black. It's funny how you brought up how you live in africa because my family in africa rejoiced when they heard that america who once kidnapped africans and has probably one of or the worst history of racism towards black people had elected their first black president. What part of africa are you from friend?
Oh the irony. A few decades ago you could, figuratively speaking, kill a black man for the heck of it and get away with it and now you will gain credits if people just 'think' you are black. I'm not really an expert on American politics, but if you are going to reduce the complex mechanics behind it to simply your skin color as your decisive factor, then you have no sense of reality. If American politics are truly that simple, America is doomed. That's something almost out of a cartoon or political caricature.
Btw small tip, I suggest you brush up on your history, America didn't kidnap Africans, at least not Africans that didn't already got kidnapped from Africa. For the entire duration of the Atlantic Slave Trade, which lasted around 300 years or so, the European slave traders never left the African coast. They never went land inwards more than a few miles. They left Europe with ships loaded with European export products. In Africa they went to a harbor, unloaded all their cargo and went linea recta to the closest slave market where they traded all their cargo for slaves. They filled their ships to the brim with those slaves and left for the New World. Do you know who were the driving force behind these slave markets? Native Africans themselves. Europeans didn't have do much, they were practically giving to them the moment they arrived as long as they provided goods to trade them for. Back then the interior of Africa consisted out of thousands of tribes that were regularly fighting with each other. When a tribe got beaten, the winners sold them as slaves. There are even records of powerful tribal rulers that intentionally collected many slaves so that they could sell them to Europeans.
That's right, one of the key players in the slave trade were Africans themselves. Not that the role of Europeans was any better though. It's only during the 19th century, when the slave trade was already abolished and slavery was also strongly criticized in Europe, that Europeans left the coastal regions and ventured into the continental regions of Africa.
To make things even more funnier, some of the most powerful slave traders were Arabians/Muslims. The Atlantic system that linked 3 continents with each other and where slave trade had a primary role in, is considered to be one of the most successful, if not the most successful, economical business in human history...and it was in the end a
joint venture avant la lettre between Europeans, native Africans and Arabians. Ironic, isn't it?
"America who once kidnapped Africans", oh please. No doubt the Europeans kidnapped by force people, however overall that was more exception than routine as it takes too much time and effort. These were not ships with hundreds of soldiers on them. The more place you have on your ship, the more slaves you can transport. The more slaves that you have, the higher the profit.
