Chapter 16: Emotions Run High
Warning Contains Some Violence, Gore, and minor Profanities.
Vincent charged the abomination that stood over the prince's corpse, but was quickly sent flying back the direction in which he came from. A screeching sound could be heard as Vincent dug his sword into the ground, causing sparks to fly. Elizabeth looked up as Vincent flew past her. Her eyes grew wide with fear as her blue orbs began to burn from the tears that pricked them. She watched him crash into the wall as a few bricks came lose and smacked him in the face. Her heart throbbed in agony from seeing her love in distress. She swiftly followed the path towards Vincent, as her heart pounded rapidly in her chest. The desperate urge to comfort him consumed her as she went through the gaping hole Vincent had just created and coughed as she inhaled some of the dirt that clouded the debris from the wall. Elizabeth dashed over to where her fallen love was lying and kneeled down next to him, just to see a trail of blood flowing from the lips she so badly wanted to capture with her own. "Vincent!" She gasped, seeing the discomfort clearly written on his face.
He reached up to grab her shoulder, hand shaking, and pulled himself up into a sitting position, holding his ribs. "I'm fine." He said in an emotionless tone, whipping the blood from his chin.
"The hell you are!" She shouted in a panicked tone.
"I blocked his kick at the last moment with my sword." He said as he showed her the hilt that use to have a blade attached to it. "Damn the blade must have broken off from the stress of me trying to stop myself."
"Then the blood?" She whispered.
"From the force of crashing into the wall; shit this hurts." He said as he held his head in anguish. "A brick hit me in the face as I crashed through it."
"What are the chances?" She asked as her eyebrow twitched.
"The chances were very high considering the rubble that came out with me." He sighed as he stood to his feet using Elizabeth to stable himself.
She held her hands out, ready to catch him if he fell from getting up too soon. "You can't fight this man alone Vincent." She said sadly as her heart felt like it was going to break in two from the torment of seeing him in so much misery.
"Stay out of this Elizabeth." He said coldly as he trudged back inside.
"What are you trying to prove Vincent, you will be killed!" She shouted out in frustration as tears plummeted down her cheeks.
"I'm not trying to prove anything, I just want you safe!” He shouted as he shook away the dreadful thoughts of her paralyzed in fear a few moments ago. “That man scares you to death, something nobody has ever done before.” He whispered in a gentle tone, as he turned to face her. “I want to protect you, take away that fear that makes you unable to even breathe on your own.” His eyes glazed over with love, sucking her deep into his eyes, giving her the same feeling of sharing a mind blowing kiss. He turned back towards Oliver, eyes narrowed, “Besides, we both know what he's after."
Elizabeth’s heart skipped a beat at the intense love Vincent had held for her. She had always seen that gentle gaze he showed only to her, but she never thought about it, until a dire situation such as this occurred. "So then you're just going to give him what he wants?!" She barked in disbelief as his last sentence registered in her mind. Anger boiled up inside her as she stomped back inside, following closely behind him.
"Be quiet Elizabeth." He said softly, holding his head as it began to ache even more.
Elizabeth glared at Vincent at first, but her gaze softened shortly after remembering the loving look he presented to her. His eyes were in dangerous slits as he glared hatefully at the malicious man in front of him, determination etched into his facial features. The demon’s smile grew at the sight of Vincent and he opened his mouth to speak, "Good, I thought I had killed you by accident." He responded in a raspy tone.
"Oliver, why are you doing this?" Anilla shouted as her stomach began to twist into knots at the sheer presence of her older brother standing in front of them.
Gabriel's eyes widen as his eyes landed on his mother's quivering form. "MOM!" He shouted as he felt happiness pour into him, putting his mind at ease knowing his mom was alive and well.
Anilla turned, just to be tackled by Gabriel as he held a death grip around her waist. Sobs filled the air as Gabriel wept into his mother's dress. "It's ok sweetie." Anilla cooed as she held her son close, not wanting to let go in fear of losing him again.
"Anilla look out!" Elizabeth shouted out in desperation.
Anilla looked up just in time to see Vincent's back pressed against her own, fending off an arial asault. "Why does he want you dead mom?" Gabriel questioned as he looked up at the man and shivered seeing the darkness in his eyes.
Vincent felt a trail of sweat trickle down his face as he was easily being over powered by Oliver’s strength. He shifted his blade, to get more leverage, and pushed back Oliver's attack with great effort, making him stumble back a few steps. Vincent kept his eyes on his opponent, wielding the sword in both of his hands, panting a bit from the strength he had to use. "Go towards Elizabeth!" He commanded.
Anilla grabbed a hold of Gabriel's wrist without second thought and bolted towards Elizabeth and Sophia, who had joined her when Gabriel was reunited with his mom. Vincent held off the bloodthirsty maniac the best he could, giving them time to get to safety. He stepped back slightly as the man was pushing him back with his weight alone against the sword. Vincent side stepped, unable to with stand the intense force he was holding back. 'Damn it!' Vincent thought as he kept his hard stare on the man in front of him, who was swinging his sword with such force that it even cracked the surface that dared block the attack. 'He's much stronger than I thought he would be.' Vincent jumped out of the way as Oliver swung his sword, knowing the force would surely do damage, even at the distance they were at.
Oliver lunged at Vincent, this time he couldn’t get away, amazed with the speed he had just shown. Vincent caught the sword with his again, grunting as Oliver easily pushed him back. Vincent slid on the tips of his toes as he tried to prevent the sword coming any closer to his face than it already was. The blade from Vincent’s sword began to moan in irritation of the stress being afflicted on it. Beads of sweat started to form on Vincent’s forehead as he pushed his weight against his sword, fending off the blade that was steadily inching closer to his face. The moaning of the sword became louder as it started to crack.
Vincent’s eyes grew with disbelief as he watched the sword slowly split in two. He rolled to the left, barely evading the sword that was embedded into the ground. Vincent’s heart began to race uncontrollably as he tried to keep up a calm façade. His hands were sweaty from the nervous flips his stomach was doing now, as he had lost both of his swords because of the man in front of him. His eyes shifted to see Elizabeth almost in tears from the events that were playing out and his heart ached to see her in such a state. Vincent rolled out of the way again as Oliver charged him, turning his attention back onto the man that was trying to kill him.
"There's no point in trying to block my attacks, especially now that you have no more weapons." Oliver said in a bored tone. "You will be my final sacrifice."
"Sacrifice?" Gabriel inquired to his mom as he watched Vincent evade the sword slashes, legs trembling from underneath him. His mind was racing trying to make sense of all the events, but he was slowly losing hope by seeing Vincent using evasion as his only weapon.
"It's nothing Gabriel." His mom lied.
"You either tell him or I do Anilla." Elizabeth said as she watched Vincent apprehensively. Anilla remained silent so Elizabeth took that as her cue to continue, "That man Oliver, is your uncle Gabriel. He is an evil man, sacrificing people, using their blood to quench his unending thirst. He wants Vincent's blood." She said the last part quietly as her eyes remained on his evasive form.
"So why does he want Vincent's blood he's already a monster!" Gabriel spat out sourly, not happy about the news he had just received.
"Vincent is strong." Elizabeth let out a low growl from her throat, feeling possessive over him.
"What did he mean by final sacrifice?"
Elizabeth placed her hand to her throwing knife, ready to throw it in aiding Vincent as Oliver's swings were getting too close for comfort. "Vincent would be the last one he would need to reach a status of immortality." Anilla whispered.
"What!" Elizabeth responded in a shocked tone.
"He's the last." Anilla repeated.
"Damn it, he needs-" Before Elizabeth could finish her sentence, Vincent was on top of her as they skidded across the floor. Vincent had Elizabeth wrapped up in his arms as he winced in pain. "Vincent." Elizabeth panicked seeing the hurt on his face, as she hadn’t received any damage from skidding across the floor.
Vincent forced a smile, "You're ok." He said lovingly to her as he cradled her head to his chest, ignoring the burning sensation coming from his arms; due to the floor trying to peel off his flesh. "Don't let your guard down again pain in the ass."
Elizabeth's eyes widen as she saw Oliver standing over them, ready to impale them both. Vincent saw his reflection in her eyes and rolled away, with her still in his arms. Vincent laid on his back, snapping his eyes shut sending Elizabeth into a frenzy as she noticed the blood on the ground. "Vincent!" She freaked as she was slowly diving into the pool of hysteria, her heart unable to withstand any more hurt from this.
"Elizabeth, move!" Gabriel shouted as he was about to charge in, but was stopped by his mom.
Ellizabeth looked up, only to be kicked in the stomach and sent flying a few yards away from Vincent. She moaned in agony as she coughed up some blood and tears leaked from her eyes as she watched in horror as Oliver picked up Vincent by his throat. Her eyes widen as she saw the huge gash in his back that he willingly took, just to keep her out of harm’s way. Her heart grew heavy as she heard him cough out as Oliver tightened his grasp around Vincent’s throat. “Vincent!” Elizabeth coughed out, trying to stand to her feet, but the pain made her fall back down to her knees.
“Stay out of this Elizabeth.” Vincent chocked out swinging his legs the best he could to try and break the hold Oliver had on him. He ignored the nerve pains in his back as it shot up his spine, almost bringing tears to his eyes. Blood drizzled down his back as he tried to muster up what little strength he had left to break the choke hold Oliver had on him.
Oliver quickly realized what Vincent was planning, so he slammed him into the floor, causing Vincent to be enveloped in searing pain. Elizabeth watched in horror, too shocked to even move a muscle as the scene fell to pieces in front of her eyes. The third time Oliver picked Vincent up to bash him back into the ground, never happened. A shrill filled the air as Oliver stumbled backwards, splashing blood all over the floor from where his hand used to be.
“I’m surprised Elizabeth.” Trevor said in a soothing tone, Vincent slung over his right shoulder. “Where’s that feisty woman I love so much?” He said with a cheeky grin on his face.
“Shut up Trevor.” Elizabeth glared, but felt relieved to see Vincent out of harm’s grasp.
Oliver looked up at Trevor, veins popping out visibly through his skin. Trevor took a defense stance, waiting for the demon to charge him, however he did the opposite. Elizabeth quickly stood to her feet as she watched Oliver dashed towards Anilla and Gabriel. Gabriel rose to the challenge as he charged Oliver head on, an attempt to protect his mom. Oliver grabbed Gabriel by his head and tossed him with little effort.
Elizabeth climbed to her feet, “Anilla!” She shouted painfully holding her stomach.
Oliver grabbed a hold of Anilla, “You die today little sister.” He said in a menacing tone.
“The hell she will.” Elizabeth growled out, finding that spark deep within herself and chucked her throwing knife at the demon in an attempt to make him drop Anilla.
A figure jumped in the path that the knife was rampaging on just to deflect the blade with his own sword, “Elizabeth you could have killed Anilla.” Michael said calmly as the throwing knife clanked against the floor.
“Michael!” Anilla shouted out desperately, holding her arms out for him to reach. Michael’s heart throbbed in his chest as he rushed towards her, “Take care of our son.” She pleaded just before Oliver embedded the knife into her throat and sawed roughly over her tender skin, staining the blade crimson swiftly.
Anilla’s eyes widen as she let out a bloodcurdling shrill, but no sound escaped her lips. The anguish of the blade cutting into her neck and severing her vocal cords was unbearable as tears gushed out of her eyes, making them swollen and puffy. She fell to her knees, grabbing a hold of her neck as she desperately gasped for air. Her small hands were quickly drenched with blood as her lungs began to burn painfully from the crimson liquid that filled her lungs. The blood surged out from her neck, and splattered onto the floor with each passing second. The air was filled with tension as everyone stared at the droplets that quickly formed a large puddle around Anilla. Her vision began to blur as she fell to the side, unable to support herself as her legs gave out from under her. The blood from the puddle beneath her shot up and sprayed her deathly pale skin with red dots from the force of the fall. The color of her face slowly left her gentle features as she fought to keep her eyes transfixed on her son.
As her body felt heavier, with the blood flowing into her lungs and slowly suffocating her, she concentrated on Gabriel. Her mind raced as she pictured holding her son for the first time, the precious life she had given as the newborn cuddled into her breast yearning to hear his mother’s heart beat like he always had. Her mind slowly faded into Gabriel laughing innocently as he stood shakily on his feet, just to fall on his butt. Memories of his first words, the innocent way he would gaze up at her and smile. All of the faces she had loved so much as he was growing up all saying the same thing as they raced through her mind, “I love you mom.” She smiled softly, lifting the muscles with the last bit of strength she had as her ears picked up on Gabriel screaming out for her. She felt her world become enveloped in darkness as his words could no longer reach her ears.
