Not Enough Death

Gai was the one who deserved a sacrifice yeah, it was an useful way to showcase Naruto's power but I feel like it's redundant, basically laughs off one of the only good moments of, well, everything after Juubito.

Sakura isn't really important to the next generation plot, nor is her death that meaningful for any of the fan's. In fact it would be more of a treat considering a large amount of people dislike her character.

Sarada dying would impact her fan's, but the characters themselves it would be meh. She's a shinobi, so death is expected. The reason why I picked Himawari is because she is innocent, and isn't a trained warrior than the former.

The other deaths Naruto has experienced in his 'precious people' don't really involve anyone like that - an innocent - nevermind that it's his child.

You have Haku who was, though sweet and gentle was still a shinobi - innocent in his own way (of heart/soul) but had killed and lived a life by Zabuza's side willing to side with Gato etc for the sake of a mission.
Most importantly it was his choice - death by shinobi.

Then there's Hiruzen, who was old and again - suicide jutsu.

Jiraiya who went knowingly to his death.

Kushina and Minato when he was a newborn, but again - sacrifice/suicide.

... Neji. Again, chose to sacrifice his life.


The others he connected with (somewhat) died in similar ways - via sacrifice or suicide/who elected to die in battle or through a technique; Nagato, Chiyo, Itachi, Zabuza.

Rarely do you get anyone who is straight up murdered/assassinated, someone innocent - the closest I can think to something similar would be Hinata being kidnapped by Kumo when she was - three?
So yeah, Himawari would be something new at least.

To be honest, I think if there were less characters overall and more of them got proper development, the amount of deaths wouldn't seem a problem. I mean, it just seems like not many of them die because we don't care about nameless ninja, and those actually die a lot (just in the fourth war alone, there were literally thousands of casualties). Yes, I do believe that Guy and, say, Onoki and could have been killed off with a good impact. However, think of what happened to Neji - he didn't even really get any paneltime in Part II before dying, and his death just seemed random. I think Kishi's mistake here was focusing on too few characters while simultaneously trying to write action involving too many of them.

Yeah man I think it would be a crazy idea for good character direction. Like I even had this vision of Boruto going for revenge and all that jazz, and him and Naruto conflicting over the right way to do things. To solve it in a political, peaceful way. The Naruto series have not blessed us with a good dark character as a lead, which would be nice considering this isn't Naruto anymore. And his son is darker in that sense.

Things like this. I could see how characters from the old generation would spawn from old themes, at the same time introducing how the other generation follow with the flow of things.

Still the writing won't be anywhere near this. That doesn't mean it will be bad tbh, but I don't expect things to go that dark.

Choji because... well, he's annoying. More drama for Shikamaru, I adore his character.

Neji, wasn't too unexpected - would have liked to have seen more of him in Shippuden though, give more of a build up.


I wonder what the impact would have been like if Rock Lee had died back in Part I - Tsunade fails, Guy lost his mini-me, Gaara... Naruto... Neji and Tenten.

Looking back on the series I came to this conclusion;

There wasn't nearly enough death/untimely demises of main/side characters throughout the series.

Sasuke Retrieval Arc was the first slip up I think - someone should have bitten the dust there. Preferably Kiba Inuzuka, he's a redundant character and incredibly annoying, a bit like Naruto... only without the cute whiskers and the angsty tragic backstory that breeds tolerance in the presence of pity.

Choji Akimichi as well - I wouldn't have minded it too much if he snuffed it either.

Might Guy - should have died, his sacrifice is all the more less epic and loses that glossy veneer when Naruto FUBARs the plot and saves his ass.



Any suggestions?

Oh I would have cried. I remember how badly I was hurt knowing how Rock Lee could not fight due to his leg injury. His fight with Gaara truly made me feel for the guy. He's actually one of my main disappoints in this series. Kishi misused his character for the Sasuke chasing drama.

Yup I agree he's just there. Never related to him. Only time I liked him is when he went his butterfly form.

Lee would have effected many characters. But I would have still liked him to get more fights before ending him for good. I kinda felt Asuma went down a bit too early. We rarely got a chance to connect with his character. Thats why if you wanna kill someone than kill someone whose had enough screen time to earn a proper death. That way that character could be memorable. I think Jiriyia's death was the best in this manga.

Neji's death would have been acceptable if it was against Kidomaru. I felt that moment a lot more serious.

Gai? No question. The 8 gates were hype to cause certain death if used. Kishi shouldn't have kept him alive. Way more epic to die using the gates than staying in a wheelchair for the rest of your life.

Most of the kages should have died to Madara. Gaara would have been the only one I would've kept alive.

Where as I am telling you how a well done Kiba would be in a series. Overall it kinda looks like your hatred for Kiba plays a big role on why you would never wanna give him a chance.

I found Itachi's death to be not as impactful cause he got revived by Edo Tensho. Keeping Jiriyia away from that stuff allowed us to remember his iconic death. Where as with Itachi it is one too many.
