Depends where you use this tech. So lets say in a flat plain with grass. It be usable to an extent but with debris from the ground. If their is by any change no earth around this jutsu will not be able to be used since its only debris and rocks. No alternative like mud.

A simple but quite the effective jutsu indeed. The user will summon a gigantic pillar of rock to forcefully emerge from the ground around any location the user desires. Its quite the large jutsu and difficult to evade when it begins to emerge. It makes a loud noise as well as the ground will become dense signalling it rising so that can be a window of evasion. Its great to use for combos to attack in all flanks of the opponent. If the opponent is caught the will be hurt as well as launched in the air with force, mid-air they are left vulnerable and open for attacks. Its a great jutsu to use against summons and is tall enough to attack an opponent air-borne. The pillar when it begins to rises is very fast as well as while it rises you can go onto the next tech. Simple evasions as well as cracking the large pillar using lightning would be best.

  • - As you said the jutsu creates a loud noise so the opponent will have time to react. -
  • - The pillars will probably obscure your line of sight. -

Combinations-strategies I see this as a great jutsu to divert large water attacks. You can form the pillars and divert the flow of water around them. Also like with other earth jutsu that alter the ground you can attack with the pillars from below and in then through the air. This jutsu is also ideal against a large number of opponents.

Ways to counter this technique Since you will hear the pillars forming you can evade the jutsu with a wind jutsu such as hurricane fist or a large scale earth jutsu such as the earth golem. As you already stated the best way to destroy the pillar is with a fast acting lightning tech.

Questions Does the shockwave caused by the pillar do damage as well.

The size of the affected area as well as the depths that it is lowered to is up to the user and rasing earth can be done up to 20 meters tall creating a small cliff or they can create trenches that can be as deep as 20 meters. Other than being moved below ground relative to the surrounding surface the terrain is not altered, plant life and people retaining their same positions.

Okay this is a handy jutsu indeed. The user will have complete control of the ground and will be able to raise or lower the ground by 20 meters. With it you can create walls to block attacks or evade them. You can capture enemies by lowering the ground. Also a note is in the manga when used against Madara he actually stumbled due to the sudden rise of the ground, so you can easily catch an opponent off and have a clone or ally send an attack making life difficult for the opponent. You can alter the terrain as well with it. It has no serious offensive abilities but its main purpose is the supplement yourself in battle. Also for every time you move the ground it counts as a turn so be weary. Also by the time the ground fully erects it will take several seconds. (3-5s) depending just how high you set it. 20 meters is the limit but you have control just how long you want to raise it.

Combinations-strategies Their are many things you can do with this jutsu. The obvious is to use it to avoid jutsu with it. You can also use it in the rain by lowering the ground to make a water source. You can use swamp of the underworld and then follow with this tech lowering your opponent into the mud. You can also attack from the sky and then raise the earth like they did in the manga.

Ways to counter this technique This really depends on how the opponent uses this tech. If you are lowered you should use a fast or large scale jutsu to escape the hole. Something like a water/earth wave or golem. If you are raised you can jump and you a wind stream to change your position away from the raising ground or use hurricane fist. Other counters depend again on what exactly your opponent is doing with this tech.

Questions If the opponent uses this on me can I immediately use the same tech on the ground being altered and just keep the elevation the same?

In a sense yes but I don't recommend it. You would be left open. The more you want to erect or lower it the longer you must focus on it.

One of the very unique and famous jutsus. The user will perform one hand seal and staying in contact with the object he will insert his doton chakra into the object and manipulate it in a way that the very same object will increase in mass. This will increase the weight of the object up to ten times more then the usual weight. This can easily restrict that very object or persons movement dramatically. Moving will be almost impossible. Also a very important note is They cannot petrify water or anything other than earthen materials such as mud and Wood techniques. In all other cases, only weight is added. So energy based attacks will not added in weight. Also this can easily be used on oneself or object to increase its power and impact. So its awesome for close range but you will sacrifice your speed because of it. Unless releasing the jutsu itself then the weight will remain on the object and/or person for two turns. Its a good jutsu but has many drawbacks as well be sure to use wisely.

Strong points
  • - You can quickly slow down a person or object by drastically increasing their weight.-
  • - You can use it on yourself and anchor your position if something is trying to suck you in. -
  • - As the jutsu says you can can petrify earth or mud materials. -
Weak points
  • - You have to touch the object to increase it's weight. See Dioynus and Vincen't fight. -
  • - When used on yourself your speed is drastically decreased. -
  • - In this jutsu having to perform a hand seal is is a large disadvantage. -
Combinations-strategies I personally would rarely use this for close quarter combat. It's too risky. However I like using this jutsu to anchor yourself against suction jutsu. You can also use it if you have a height advantage on your opponent. You will be able to drop heavy objects on them. If you get your opponent over water in short range you might be able to sink them with this jutsu.

Ways to counter this technique If your hit by this jutsu yourself you can use a jutsu to lower your weight if you have time. If you don't have time to do this and your opponent is near you, you can use a fast jutsu to counter momentarily. This would be something you can spit from from your mouth and that doesn't require much movement.

In short, the best way to counter when you are injected with the doton weight, then turning your body into water since this does nothing to water it will cancel out or sending nagashi through your entire body to negate the doton.

The technique can lower a targets weight up to 10 times less than it originally had. This allows freer manipulation of the affected objects, which would normally carry considerably more weight and as such, require a greater amount of exertion to move. The technique can be used on the user or other shinobi to increase their speed, but as a consequence of using it this way, it results in the decrease of the physical force of their blows. The same principle applies if used on a physical attack wich will be faster but will carry less momentum and as such, less physical damage. It doesn't change the "strength" of binding techniques (like Sand Release), where the user is manipulating a dynamic element but will decrease the impact damage of techniques that rely on it.
Note: The initial effects last for 2 turns or until countered.

The polar opposite of the previous jutsu. Instead of gaining mass this jutsu acts to lower the mass of the object or person up to ten times lighter then the usual weight. This jutsu when used in battle either lowering your own mass or a mass of an object exchanges the impact power for blazing speed. Its a great tool to use for fast attacks and pressuring the opponent. You can also increase your own speed to evade certain attacks with ease. Also a very important note is They cannot petrify water or anything other than earthen materials such as mud and Wood techniques. Its another risky jutsu, you might have speed but due to so little mass you will have less of an impact in certain jutsus as well as most taijutsus. Be very weary of that.

Combinations-strategies I would use this to lighten my weight to evade jutsu. For example Shady Doctor used this to lighten his weight and then free form shift around a water tech coming towards him. You can also use it to lighten a heavy object coming towards you, but you must be careful not to break your hand. This was Dionyus's mistake in his battle with Vincent. In water I see this as a real useful jutsu. If I was swimming in the water I could lower my weight and then use that water jutsu that lets you swim faster. This would make me incredibly fast underwater and I could swim towards my opponent to attack them or escape attacks in the water.

Ways to counter this technique If the opponent uses this jutsu you can do what you stated and turn your water or use a lightning tech to diffuse the jutsu. If your opponent uses it on themselves you can use a suction jutsu or powerful gust to absorb/blow them away. For example you could make a powerful gust and then use a fire jutsu to quickly engulf your opponent.

On impact with the ground the slab forces the earth to splinter and jab anyone caught in the vicinity.

One of the more basic jutsus of the A-Ranks. No hand seals and very easy to perform. The user will spew out earth material and set on the ground. The material will turn into a slab of rock and then the user will manipulate it to travel with force towards the opponent. This is a hefty jutsu able to crush and push the opponent back breaking bones and seriously handicapping the opponent. Its main advantage is its raw power. It can also act as a defense blocking attacks and then continue for an attack. It can knock out anything its path and when sent with force acts as a projectile technique. Its straightforward technique and the shape manipulation will take some time.

Combinations-strategies I would basically use this to force my opponent to react. I could send a slab at him and then speed it up with a powerful wind jutsu. I also could attach explosive tags on the slab and send it towards my opponent. You also have the option of sending the slab towards your opponent and then immedaitly following up with a world shaking or an attack from below the ground such as a earth spike.

Ways to counter this technique You can destroy the slab with lightning quickly or use any number of projectile elemental jutsu to destroy the slab. You also might be able to dodge the slab all together with a wind stream or rock pillar. Any large scale jutsu will also destroy the slab like a water wave or earth golem.

Questions Curious although maybe a naive question, could I use this to surf on water?

The golem can also devour earth structures and other enemy attacks, biting and chewing on it.
One of the ultimate large scale jutsu. You can easily avoid and defend against large attacks with the golem. You also gain a height advantage if your on top of the golem. Not to mention you can attack with the golem itself.

Description: The user will first perform Boar → Tiger and then by changing the surface of an object beneath an enemy into mud and creating a non flammable swamp, the user can sink his enemy into the mud. The adhesive, chakra-infused mud ensnares the enemy's body, making it almost impossible to recover one's strength and escape from the swamp. The size and depth of the created swamp depends on the user's skill and the amount of chakra used, but if the user is an expert in this technique, it will always be possible to make a fair-sized swamp which is extremely effective against a great number of enemies or when having to face gigantic creatures.
A great jutsu for setting up combos. You take away the ground from your opponent and you attack in the air. It can also be used to trap large summons or objects. Also it's a great way to kill people if they ever fall on the ground.

Lots of applications with this jutsu. You can petrify earth materials, anchor yourself down, and make your opponent slower. You can also make objects heavier in general causing them to impact with more force.

Description: The user will bite his thumb and perform the Boar → Monkey → Bird → Monkey → Ram hand seals, slamming their hand into a scroll on the ground. This technique is a combination of the Summoning Technique and an Earth Release technique. The user summons a large amount of rock from a giant canyon which, during the process of being summoned through this technique, he shapes into a design he outlined previously in a scroll. This allows the user to change the topography of the map and create any earthen feature he needs from pillars to gorges, canyons, mountains or simply plains. If the user wants to or is defeated, the alteration ends as any summon eventually does. Additionally he can use (Doton: Dimenshon Fuudo Shihai) - Earth Release: Dimension Topography Control at any point to change the design and alter the summoned terrain.
Note: can only be used once per battle
I love the idea of being able to make your own terrain in an instance. NK's proctoring battle of Zanda's Sage Mode test was awesome. NK created a maze with this. Loved it. Also you can change the terrain to your advantage as discussed earlier.

This goes hand and hand with Wheel of Fortune. So Wheel of Fortune is like creating a big rock and this jutsu shapes it.

The user will slam his hands on the ground which he can then lower or raise the ground up to 100 meters in a large section. The rise will be fast enough to pin enemies to the ground, restricting their movements as they struggle to get up and the drop will be fast enough to leave almost all enemies without a footing (albeit not airborne). Because of the large chakra needed to alter such a large area of the terrain, the user will be able to use it only a limited number of times.
Note: Can only be used twice.

This is the stronger version of the previous A-Rank counter part. The user will have complete control of the ground and will be able to raise or lower the ground by 100 meters. With it you can create walls to block attacks or evade them. You can capture enemies by lowering the ground and sending a large scale attack. Also a note is that anyone in the ground that is under control they will obviously lose their balance due to the sudden rise of the ground, so you can easily catch an opponent off and have a clone or ally send an attack making life difficult for the opponent. (Doton: Dosenkiryū) – Earth Release: Earth and Stone Dragon Technique

Description: The user after performing the required hand seals Horse → Dog → Bird → Ox → Snake will create a large dragon of earth erupt from the ground and direct it towards the enemy with devastating force. This technique much resembles the Water Release: Water Dragon technique.

Another very handy and a personal favorite. After doing the required hand seals the user will summon a large dragon made of complete stone and earth. The summoning of the dragon is very fast and what makes this jutsu so handy is basically the brute force the dragon contains and its sheer size. The dragon is summoned close range but it has a long range reach. You can ride the dragon and what makes it awesome is how you can really catch and save yourself from tough situations with the dragon, if you are in a tight situation you can summon the dragon and rise below you and use the momentum to launch yourself in the sky to evade certain attacks. It can also act as a barrier around you to protect from certain attacks. A normal problem is you must keep control of the dragon whenever you are using it. Description: This technique grants the user the ability to freely lower or raise the terrain within a specific area surrounding them, in a similar manner to its parent technique, albeit on a much larger scale. The user will slam his hands on the ground which he can then lower or raise the ground up to 100 meters in a large section. The rise will be fast enough to pin enemies to the ground, restricting their movements as they struggle to get up and the drop will be fast enough to leave almost all enemies without a footing (albeit not airborne). Because of the large chakra needed to alter such a large area of the terrain, the user will be able to use it only a limited number of times.
Note: Can only be used twice.
Strong points
  • - A great jutsu for changing your elevation and avoiding/defending against a large scale jutsu. -
  • - Good to use on a large number of enemies. -
  • - This tech to an even higher extent than the lower rank one will make the opponent stumble and lose balance. -
Weak points
  • - Depending on how much you lower/raise the ground the process will take some time. -
  • - As with the lower rank tech each movement of the ground counts as a move. You also have to keep focusing chakra to change the ground. -

Combinations-strategies As with it's parent technique I would use this to gain a height advantage and fire jutsu down at my opponent. I could also use turn the ground to mud with swamp of the underworld and quickly sink my opponent. You can also lower the ground under your opponent and then fill the hole with water.

Ways to counter this technique As with the lower rank one you can use a earth pillar or wind stream/hurricane fist to leave the pillar quickly (especially if you lose balance and can't jump). If your trapped below use a large scale jutsu to bring yourself back up to the normal ground level.

(Doton: Dosenkiryū) – Earth Release: Earth and Stone Dragon Technique

Description: The user after performing the required hand seals Horse → Dog → Bird → Ox → Snake will create a large dragon of earth erupt from the ground and direct it towards the enemy with devastating force. This technique much resembles the Water Release: Water Dragon technique.
Strong points
  • - The range on this is great and it's a large scale jutsu to boot. Large and fast like the ladies like it. -
  • - This can be used for attacks, defenses, and evasion. -
  • - Just an overall very potent jutsu with a lot of impact force as you stated. -
Weak points
  • - It takes time for the dragon to form. Especially since it requires 5 hand seals. You opponent will at least see you are forming a dragon. -
  • - You have to keep feeding chakra to the dragon to use it.-
  • - Nothing to add here. -
Combinations-strategies One of my favorite uses of a dragon technique was when Shady Doctor one hand seal a water dragon behind me. I like this strategy. Since you have to maintain your chakra on the dragon you can't use other jutsu with this tech. My favorite use of this is if weapons/projectiles are coming at me. I can form the dragon and ride it towards my opponent. This lets me attack and defend at the same time.

Ways to counter this technique You can use a quick and equivalently powerful lighting bolt to destroy the dragon. You can also counter with your own large scale jutsu such as swamp of the underworld or maybe even great moving earth core to raise/lower the entire dragon.

Description: A more advanced version of the Earth Release: Light-Weight Rock Technique, in which the user drastically decreases the weight of any object in direct physical contact, but to a much greater extent than that of the original ability. The technique can decrease the weight of the target to virtually zero but the bigger the target, the more time is needed.
Note: The weight change lasts 2 turns or until countered.

The stronger version of the previous A-Rank jutsu. The polar opposite of the previous jutsu. Instead of gaining mass this jutsu acts to lower the mass of the object or person down to virtually no weight at all. This jutsu when used in battle either lowering your own mass or a mass of an object exchanges the impact power for blazing speed. Its a great tool to use for fast attacks and pressuring the opponent. You can also increase your own speed to evade certain attacks with ease. Also a very important note is They cannot petrify water or anything other than earthen materials such as mud and Wood techniques. Its another risky jutsu, you might have speed but due to the fact you have no mass whatsoever you have no impact on your punches or impact attacks.

The stronger version of the A-Rank shown. Staying in contact with the object he will insert his doton chakra into the object and manipulate it in a way that the very same object will increase in mass. This will increase the weight of the object up to 100 times more then the usual weight. This can easily restrict that very object or persons movement dramatically. Moving will be impossible. Also a very important note is They cannot petrify water or anything other than earthen materials such as mud and Wood techniques. In all other cases, only weight is added. So energy based attacks will not added in weight. Also this can easily be used on oneself or object to increase its power and impact. So its awesome for close range but you will sacrifice your speed terribly because of it. Unless releasing the jutsu itself then the weight will remain on the object and/or person for two turns. Its a good jutsu but has many drawbacks as well be sure to use wisely. This is best to use against an opponent, a good combo is catching an opponent and injecting them with the weight they will not even be able to move for two turns. I recommend really watching out for this technique.

Combinations-strategies You could lower the weight of kunai with paper bombs attached to them and throw them at the opponent. The kunai would travel extremely fast causing quick explosions. You can also use this in the water as I mentioned in the A rank version of the tech to swim faster. You can also lower your own weight to quickly scale over large terrain like a earth golem or canyon.

Ways to counter this technique You counter this the same way you would in the A rank tech and the tech below.

  • - Great for completely immobilizing an opponent. They won't be able to react. -
  • - Again when used on yourself you can anchor yourself down and avoid suction type jutsu. -
  • - You can petrify objects made of earth or mud materials. -
Weak points
  • - You have to touch the object you want to increase in mass. -
  • - When used on yourself like the lower rank version your speed drastically decreases. -
  • - Assuming it still requires a hand seal like the lower rank version then this is a disadvantage. -
Combinations-strategies This is fantastic for short range combat. If you manage to touch your opponent then game over. You can also increase the mass of an object in front of you to keep it from moving. Then you could stand behind the object and have it block wind gusts or similar jutsu. You could also throw something like a kunai vertically downwards if in the air and drastically increase it's mass making it deadly.

Ways to counter this technique If you get touched with this then you need to use a jutsu that doesn't require you to move. You can turn your body to water. You can also electrocute yourself with a lightning tech in extreme situations. If you need to counter before releasing this tech you can fire something from your mouth if it is already open.

Description: With the technique, the user can bring up something from deep within the ground by slamming his hands on the ground and manipulating it to forcefully make whatever is contained in it to be expelled upwards. The result of this technique has the appearance of an erupting volcano and can vary in size depending on the users needs.

Jutsu is different then most earth jutsus. The user by slamming their hands on the ground will manipulate it in a way where they rise a large volcano. The volcano will thrust up anything that is under ground. This is great to know if you figure an opponent is underground this is a great jutsu to use which propel them airborne and you can attack. This includes also certain summonings and whatever type of objects. Its a handy jutsu at time, though is under used. Note you can not use this jutsu close range from yourself due to the size of the volcano.

Description: The user will do 3 handseals (Tiger → Ram → Rat) and slam his hands on the ground which creates two enormous rock formations that close in on the opponent from two opposing sides with tremendous force, smashing everything caught in between. Both of these formations are capable of dwarfing even the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path in size. This is one the most strongest Earth based techniques, standing as a testament to both this ability's destructive potential and its difficulty. However, because of its size and power, it can only be used a limited amount of times, requires much chakra and can only be used at least mid range from the user.
Note: Can only be used twice

This is earth releases most powerful attack from the whole canon list. The user after performing 3 hand seals, the user will summon an extremely large rock formation on each flanks of the opponent. Right when they fully rise they act to come together with brute force crushing everything that is caught between it. The size is so large it makes the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path look small. Due to its large status your only able to us it twice per battle. This is great to use as a finisher from combos as well as distract the opponent, scaring them with its size. Though you must remain concentrated during the time to make them come together, if you don't the rock formations will just stay in place. During the time they rise from the ground, the ground will shake heavily making movement tough on the opponent as well. Despite the fact of all it gives their are many drawbacks. One being is this is a loud and large jutsu. Making it easy to anticipate it and what to do. Also you can only do this jutsu mid-long range restricting its mobility. Ways to counter this is stopping the opponents concentration towards it, sending a wide ranged attack. Using a high ranked and long range lightning jutsu to negate the chakra in the doton. Just some ideas. Its a great jutsu if used correctly.

  • - Can only be used if your on the ground which isn't the case for all earth jutsu. -

Combinations-strategies Not a big fan on this one. I would use it to launch a summon like a snake into the air and then launch a projectile at it. If my opponent is underground I would use swamp of the underworld instead of this.

Ways to counter this technique This is tough. You could use a large scale lightning jutsu around yourself and the surrounding area to stop the formation of the volcano. You could make yourself really heavy and the volcano wouldn't be able to lift you.

  • - Wholly damage points batman!!! This jutsu is powerful. -
  • - This is great against large people/summons/objects. It will be hard form them to avoid. -
  • - The opponent will stumble as the slabs are formed. -
Weak points
  • - This jutsu is slow overall. It's fairly easy to have time to react to it. -
  • - You must maintain focus and keep pouring chakra through the duration of the jutsu. -
  • - As you stated you can only form the mountain at least mid range from you. -
Combinations-strategies To use this effectively you really need a partner or to immobilize your opponent. Maybe you can use a high level genjutsu to immobilize your target and then use this jutsu. I also see this as an interesting counter to a large water jutsu. You could essentially form the slabs in the path of a large wave and the water would be forced to go around it and you.

Ways to counter this technique A powerful and quick lightning jutsu is the best way to defend against this. You can also stop your opponent from having time to complete the tech. To do this you can use something fast like a wind jutsu to reach them. They will have to defend or get hit.

Questions Curious, what happens if I turn my body to water in an instant and make it look like I took the full damage of the jutsu? Then I appear as a puddle hidden from my opponent? Would that work.

You can but its easy to anticipate. Also turning you're body to water might help but at the same time I can see argument in that, since Earth>Water it might negate usually the jutsu you are talking about should be done with basic attacks.

The downside is that the user cannot mold techniques from other elements a part from earth while sustaining the armor. The armor can be manifested in only specific parts of the body if the user so chooses.

A great armor jutsu. The user will be able to forcefully surge rocks from any part or their whole body and cover themselves in rock. This is great to defend specific body parts as well as be used for full body surges in genjutsu. You can use the armor to have a much longer reach with huge power behind it. A large set back is you move very slow with the jutsu restricting your movement, jumping is impossible as well. The user can extend weapons from their arms as rocks which is great to have for an extra arsenal. The user can only mold doton chakra while having the armor off.

Description: The user creates a even larger and stronger version of Earth Release: Stone Golem Technique. However, unlike the smaller version, the user creates this stone golem from the ground solely. The user will slam his hand on the ground, manipulating it and shaping it into a large warrior of stone which he can control as long as he keeps his hand in contact with it or with the ground and keeps fueling the technique with chakra. The golem can reach heights of 30 meters and is quite massive but seems to also be capable of moving quite fast as well.

The user without the needs of hand seals will summon a very large golem which can extend up to 30 meters in height. It has great brute strength as well as be quite agile despite its large stature. The Golem is manipulated through your chakra control meaning you must remain concentrated towards it no matter what if you want to use it. By doing this he must keep his hands together. The golem is summoned close range but has a long range reach. The golem is great to get you out of tough situations. It can act as a barrier and attack as well being a mobile tech.

  • - One of the best defense jutsu out there. You can cover your entire body in rock providing a 360 defense or just cover a part of it. -
  • - Unlike most armors you can mold weapons out of this one. Only earth weapons but still. -
  • - Like most armors the rocks are formed almost instantaneously to provide a quick defense. -
Weak points
  • - Your speed is slowed down considerably by the armor. This means taijutsu or jumping is out of the question. -
  • - You can only use mold earth chakra while where the armor so you can only use doton techniques. -
  • - Nothing to add here. -
Combinations-strategies This is great when you are in a bind and want to defend quickly. I would use it to protect against water waves without moving or against large scale earth/fire techs. You can form the armor and even use it to anchor yourself down. My favorite though is you can break genjutsu and also protect your body at the same time.

Ways to counter this technique The simplest way is to destroy the armor with at least a A rank lightning tech. You can destroy it with other techs but they will have to be S-Rank. You can use the added weight of your opponent to your advantage and use swamp of the underworld below them. In general if the armor is formed around your opponent you should try to keep your distance as they will be slow.

QuestionsCan you mold regular chakra to cast genjutsu with the armor on? Also when you create weapons won't you bee to slow to use them until you undo the armor?

  • - Since the golem is human in shape you have a lot of flexibility with what you can do with it. You can make it run, move its arms, tell it to bite something, etc... -

  • - You have to keep your hand on the golem to use it. This limits your mobility severally unless the golem moves with you on it. -
  • - The jutsu is somewhat slow forming and not discrete at all. Not that it needs to be too much. -

Combinations-strategies I would use this to get out of large jutsu. It's perfect against water waves, the lowering/raising the ground jutsu, Strong gusts or hurricane, and huge fires. As an attack I would use it to try and corner my opponent and then time jump off the golem and attack my opponent directly after.

Ways to counter this technique You can sink the golem with swamp of the underworld or if your close enough to touch it you can drastically increase/decrease its mass. You can destroy the whole golem with a powerful lightning jutsu, or just destroy the part that is attacking you. Finally you can fire an attack at your opponent forcing them to take their hand off the golem.
