Kakashi made a move and then changed its name when he completed it there's no real difference except better control. It's like futon rasengan and rasenshuuriken.
you know that rasenshuriken is way more powerful and destructive than fuuton rasengan right?

what sasuke used in part 1 and kakashi in kakashi gaiden was "chidori",as it appears a mass of lightning being held in hands, which requires speed to maintain.

what kakashi uses normally and sasuke used throughout shippuden,is Raikiri,as it's no longer a mass of lightning that requires speed but high chakra control and manipulation.

Raikiri is just a higher form of chidori, though sasuke still calls it chidori. This can be confirmed when he used it against raikage and raikage described it as raikiri.

Raikiri is the stronger version that needs more chakra control, the manga has explained this..

They're actually the same thing. I believe Deidara was calling Sasuke's technique "Lightning Blade(or Raikiri)", but he said he prefer the name "Chidori".

There is a signifigant difference between raikiri and chidori.

Chidori is the technique kid kakashi and sasuke learned. It is simply generating lightning around the hand, and useing it to cut/stab.

Rakiri, is the evolved technique of chidori. It is almost identical, but is stronger. Rakiri, the user forms more of a orb, and a greater concetration of lightining around the hand.

If kakashi used raikiri vs chidori, his raikiri would win.

Now since the differences are so minor, it really doesnt matter. Raikiri cannot be used as a name for chidori, but chidori can still be used for a raikiri user.

Again, there is a difference(other than name) between raikiri and chidori. But it is very minor.

An example of a different jutsu with a very similar predicament.
You cannot call a rasengan "oodoma rasengan", but you can call a oodoma rasengan just "rasengan".
Saying oodoma isnt any stronger than rasengan, would not be accurate. However for the most part, they are still the same.

Guys....look at it like this and not name wise....

Sasuke has upgraded his "chidori" to lightning blade and above...he just calls it Chidori, just like his tsukuyomi. He calls it genjutsu sharingan.

Kakashi named his "chidori" lightning blade because he cut lightning (was never really confirmed), but so has sasuke, he can actually tame raw lightning, so hell yes he has the better lightning/jutsu.
Sasuke broke through the raikage's lightning armor, by that he has exceeded lightning blade lightning (<-lol)

Tamming Kirin was a dead give away, most people only go by the name chidori and lightning blade, I go by whats happened and the end results.

It was shown in a filler that young Kakashi cut a lightning.
