Mystogan stepped forward towards the man waiting for him. They were standing on the edge of a forest, in a field just to the east of thick forest. Standing before the man, a slight breeze came from behind Mystogan and rustled his clothing. After his mask settled on his face, Mystogan began to speak.
Welcome, young one. I shall be your teacher. Before we can begin, you must prove that you have an understanding of what you shall be learning. Describe for me, as best you can, what exactly chakra is, how it's made, and how it's used. From your response, I shall decide how to proceed.

Chakra can be defined as two things; One's power, and one's life force. It is the fundamental unit of action in the narutoverse.

Firstly, it can be be described as one's power. One's innate ability to do work. The currency one pays in exchange for performing techniques.

Secondly, and more importantly, it is a person's life force. In the narutoverse, apart from having the usual bloodflow system, everyone also possesses a chakra flow system. Both function in similar ways, to sustain life.

The use of chakra involves primarily molding and shaping it into a desired form to create a desired effect. A common use of chakra is to mold it into elemental jutsu. It can also be used to augment one's movements(Walking on water jutsu, some taijutsu, etc) Training helps a person to become more adept at the use of chakra. The use of chakra has developed to an extent of being used to fuel certain techniques not in the frame of the basic five elements, eg. fuinjutsu.

Excellent. Now, chakra is formed by mixing two energies; your Physical Energy, which you use to move your body and lift heavy objects, and your Spiritual Energy, which come from your mental strength, the "strength" of your emotions, your determination, and other non-quantifiable things. Before you can learn any techniques, you must first pass the four stages to controlling your chakra effectively. The first and second stages go together, with them being molding and focusing your chakra.
First, I want you to clap your hands together and relax your body. Allow your Physical Energy and Spiritual Energy to become one as you calm your mind and body. Eventually, after much training, it will be second nature to mold chakra. You will feel a flame-like sensation in your Solar Plexus as your chakra builds. Once you feel the building of your chakra, I want you to focus it. Just like a child learning to walk, you must learn to use chakra as an extension of your body slowly, and as such you must learn to focus it at a point of my choosing.

Mystogan then bend down and picked up a leaf, reaching out to place it on his student's forehead.
I want your chakra to be focused behind this leaf, in your forehead. After a while, I'll check back on your progress.

As the leaf is placed on Sasuke's forehead his eyes direct their gaze upwards, as if to look at it. He then sighs heavily, and sits down on the floor in a meditative state(with his legs crossed bud-hist style). After adjusting his legs and fidgeting a bit to get in the most comfortable position he could find, he decides to begin his training. As he sits he begins to ponder about what his sensei had said

Physical and mental energies ehh
he mutters...He then closes his eyes and begins to breath in and out heavily. First at a fast rate, but gradually digressing to a low pace. As he does this, he claps his hands silently in front of him and begins trying to allow his mind and body to become one. As he sits steadily meditating, he begins to feel a buildup of energy within him as he breaths in and out. With every breathing motion, he feels a wavelike flow of something he can only describe as flames deep within himself. As if his physical action had been synchronized with his spiritual/mental faculty and was generating a sort of entity which he felt within his body. With the realization that this what his sensei wanted him to do, he proceeds to try to channel this entity, this chakra, to his forehead. He spends some time trying this but nothing happens and he begins to get frustrated. Then, to top it all up, the leaf slips from his fore head. He opens his eyes to see it gliding gracefully as it makes its decent. At this moment he is frustrated to the point of anger and grabs the leaf hastily about the tear it apart, but as he holds it with his two hands he feels reluctant to do so. With a sigh, showcasing his restraint, he licks the back of the leaf and stamps it on his forehead again. He then assumes his previous position and resumes what he was doing. On this second try he's able to feel the chakra rising steadily as he meditates. He then focuses on sending it to his forehead. After a long period of time he feels his chakra rise steadily, and gather gradually at his forehead right beneath the leaf....

Have you started to get it yet? Mystogan asked as he walked back. He had taken a short stroll around his training area before returning to check in on his student's progress.
It's looking good... You have cleared your first two stages. The first stage, Chakra Molding, is used to allow you to, as the name suggests, mold chakra. You can't use techniques until you can mold chakra. The second stage, Leaf Concentration, is for both concentration of chakra to a certain point on your body, but more importantly it is for focus. If you can concentrate for that long on your chakra, not letting your mind wander and get distracted, in battle you will be able to concentrate on your chakra molding as if it were second nature, which is a necessity to fight properly. But you appear to have grasped these concepts.
Your next challenge will to be this.

Walking towards the forest side of the training grounds, Mystogan planted one foot firmly against the side of a tree, and then stepped up to place his other foot firmly on the bark of the tree. Then he continued, walking up the side of the tree until he found himself upside-down, on the underside of a branch.
You'll be learning how to climb trees. Without your hands.
Mystogan then allowed his chakra to leave his feet and flipped so that he would land on his feet, one hand on the ground to steady himself before he stood fully up.
Now, for this exercise, you need to send chakra to the soles of your feet, just as you had sent it to your forehead before. If you've gotten the knack of molding chakra, you shouldn't need to clap your hands, but if you still need to do so to concentrate, go ahead. The amount of chakra you need is very specific, as too little and it will be just like you weren't using any chakra, and you will fall. Too much, and your chakra will repel you from the side of the tree, ending your run for that attempt. Now, catch.
Taking out a kunai, Mystogan tossed it towards his student.
You're going to use that to mark your progress as you attempt this chakra-control method. When you're about to fall off the tree, cut the bark as a measurement. Make sure to mark it so you know what height to beat your next try. Also, I won't believe you've been trying if you don't mark it... Now, I don't expect you to get this precise amount of chakra correct the first time; just keep trying until you get it...
Mystogan then turned his back and began to walk into the forest.
I've known people to take days to master this exercise, but luckily for you, it gets easier as you go on. You have until midnight tonight, and then I'm returning. If you can't get it by tonight...
Mystogan allowed his sentence to hang in the air. Fear. A great motivator, and what better to instil the fear than an open-ended threat. He hadn't decided himself what would happen if it took his student more than a day to master the exercise, but he was thinking; it was near-certain to happen, as this was no easy task. As the masked man disappeared into the forest, he left his student to practice until night-fall.

Sasuke grabs the tossed kunai as he listens attentively to all his teacher was saying. After the long speech is concluded, he watches as his teacher disappears into the forest....

Probably gonna chase some rats or something...<_< >_>

Sasuke then turns his attention to the task at hand. As he brainstorms the way forward, he stares intently at the tree while repeatedly tossing the kunai in his hand into the air. As he looks at the tree, he can hear his sensei's words ringing in his ears. His sensei had made it seem like this task was gonna be nigh impossible to perform within a short period of time. Sasuke didn't like drawn-out activities. He quiet often got bored and lost interest at about halfway through most long events.

*sigh* I guess it can't be helped...
As Sasuke says this, he begins to do a couple of stretching movements, in preparation for the commencement of the task at hand.

Sasuke starts with the basic move of gathering his chakra and channeling it to his feet. He takes a deep breath and focuses on doing exactly what he did in his previous exercise. Fortunately, he finds that he is now able to mold and control his chakra relatively more easily. When Sasuke feels his chakra in the soles of his feet, he hastily takes two or three steps backwards and breaks into a trot, approaching the tree. When he gets close enough to the tree to begin his ascent, he jumps towards it, planting his right foot at knee level, while quickly bringing his left foot to a position a couple of centimeters above the right.

Sasuke does his movements so fast that for a splot second it actually seems like he has actually succeeded this exercise in one attempt. This however, isn't the reality of the matter. As soon as Sasuke's feet are planted on the tree's trunk, nature decides to teach him a basic science lesson: what goes up must come down. Sasuke falls flat on the ground.

Sasuke sits up and takes the kunai to mark his "incredible" feat. He can't help but laugh as he realizes how bad he had done on his first try. As he sits staring absentmindedly at the mark showing his failure, he tries to think of what he did wrong. He goes over everything his sensei had said before he left and realizes that perhaps he didn't use enough chakra hence the failed attempt.

For the next couple of minutes Sasuke sits down in a meditative posture and concentrates on channeling a substantial amount of chakra into his feet. After he feels there's a more than enough deposit of it in the soles of his feet, he rises and just lie before, he takes a few steps backwards and trots towards the tree. This time, as he approaches it, he targets a spot some centimeters above the first mark as the site for his first step. As this spot was a bit higher, it was required that he jump to successfully plant his foot there. When Sasuke jumps and plants his foot on the tree, much to his dismay, his foot slips to the right side of the tree, sending his body crushing into the tree. With his body twitching from pain, he allows himself to fall on his right side as he grabs his head in anguish. Even after the pain subsides, Sasuke continues to lay on the forest floor, trying to figure out what just happened. He then remembers his sensei's words " Too much, and your chakra will repel you from the side of the tree..."

With this, Sasuke realizes that to complete this task the first thing for him to do is identify the exact amount of chakra he has to use in order to support his weight, and then maintain that exact amount throughout his ascent.

Sasuke:[Approaches the tree and stands in front of it, examining it] Ohhh, so that's how its done eh.....

He then starts to send his chakra into the soles of his feet again. After a brief moment, without any preparation, he leaps unto the side of the tree, planting both of his feet at same height of the tree. To his utter relief, he doesn't fall this time, although he notices he isn't really that steady and that it almost appears he is hanging by a thread. He takes one step with his left foot. Momentarily, he remains attached to the tree after his step, but he notices that the grip was getting weaker quickly. Split-seconds before the grip gives way completely he back flips and lands a few feet from the tree, crouching momentarily to accommodate for the force he came down with. He then approaches the tree to mark his new height on its trunk. He now knew what he had to do, and he was ready to practice forever until he was perfect...or 30 minutes, whichever came first <.<

[Camera drifts upwards until it reaches a height where we can see the sun/moon and hence track the time....fast forward to when the sun/moon tells us its just about midnight. Camera drifts back downwards to where we left Sasuke. We see the trunk of the tree first. It has has several fresh horizontal marks on it starting from knee level and ascending all the way to the top. We see Sasuke, now with his shirt off, relaxing on the highest branch of the tree. The sweat he's drenched in tells us he's gone through a very tiring ordeal to eventually get to where he was. Probably more than 30mins of practice....He's seen to wait patiently for his sensei....]

Oh, there you are.
In the tree behind the one Sasuke had been practicing in, Mystogn sat, crouched on a branch, a smile beneath his mask and a disposition which almost seemed to be mocking Sasuke's exhausted form.
I was looking on the ground for a while, and then I heard this dog up here. Turns out, it was just you catching your breath.
There was no sign of stress on Mystogan's body. Not a bead of sweat, no irregularities in his breathing, and no part of his body was even shaking from the climbing up the tree. He simply sat there, grinning at his exhausted student, essentially mocking him.
Well, you seem to have mastered this pretty quickly; come now, for the final stage awaits you.
Turning his back, Mystogan leapt forward and through the trees. His plan was to arrive at his destination and wait no more than a minute. If his student was not there within that time, he would return to that tree and literally kick him out of it, dragging him along the grass to the still, silent pool he was heading towards. The glass-like water sat perfectly still as it awaited the student to begin.

After hearing his senseis words, Sasuke descends the tree by hopping from high branches to lower ones. Upon reaching one of almost the same height as the one his sensei was on, he proceeds to follow his senseis path through the thick branches by hopping to branches just as he leaves them. Upon reaching their destination Sasuke patiently awaits what's next

Looking back as his student arrived, Mystogan paused for a moment.
This is the beginning of the final stage of training before we get into techniques. Just like you just did, channel your chakra into your feet, and then step out onto the water. Your chakra will push down into the water, increasing your buoyancy to a point where you can stand on the water as though it were land. However, when you were climbing trees, you used a fixed amount of chakra, and that taught you how to concentrate your chakra to a specific level. This exercise depends on you being able to adjust your chakra flow to the fight accordingly. As you walk on the water, the way the water moves beneath your feet will make one moment require so much chakra, and the next moment you'll need more, and the next moment you'll need less than you started with. By being able to adjust your chakra flow accordingly, you'll be able to adjust yourself in a fight. It will also help when we move up in ranks of techniques.
As he spoke, Mystogan stared at his student, studying him over.
Or, actually, you look quite tired; why don't you just rest for a bit, let your body recover, let your Spiritual Energy grow once more so that you'll have more chakra... It'll probably be best if you just stop and wait for tomorrow.
In Mystogan's mind, he analyzed the situation. This man probably thought highly of himself, and may even take offense to Mystogan telling him to wait for the next day. Which is exactly what Mystogan wanted; to manipulate his student in such a way that he'd push himself until he became better. But for now, all Mystogan could do was wait to see his student's reaction.

As Sasuke hears the word "rest" come out of his sensei's mouth his soul jumps with joy. He could use some rest. Especially after the tiresome task that was scaling up that tall tree. His almost instantaneous reaction is to throw himself on the ground with his hands behind his head for a comfortable nap...Besides, what student doesn't want a break from class. However, as his sensei proceeds to say the words "stop" and "tomorrow" Sasuke's demeanor changes. He stares blankly into his sensei's eyes as he realizes that he can't possibly take the easy route if he wants to become strong in this world, and that was his only goal.

Arigato Mystogan-sensei but I don't think a break is necessary right now. You know what they say, there's more sleep after death U_U. Maybe after I'm totally worn out and unable to move and I pass out, I'll get some rest when I'm unconscious.

After his speech, Sasuke walks slowly to the bank of the lake, where the water just touches his toes. He concentrates on all what he's been taught so far and gets ready to put all that he's learnt and figured out into use. Without much trouble, he gathers chakra and channels it into the soles of his feet. He channels an amount he thinks will be enough to all him to float on the body of water and then takes a step onto it. He realizes that about 40% of his sandal is emerged in the water. He steps onto it with his other foot as well and tries to be steady. He then pumps more chakra into his feet gradually, causing a slow but noticeable upthrust that causes him to rise until he is standing just on the surface of the water.

Now very content with his accomplishment, he takes a few steps until he is about 5m from the shore. He then turns and waves at his sensei with a satisfied grin on his face. As he does this, out of nowhere, a disturbance in the lake causes ripples that cause Sasuke to shake and wobble where he was standing. In a frantic effort to prevent from falling into the lake, Sasuke thinks hard and decides to make the chakra in his feet more 'wavy' so it could compensate for the unpredictability of the terrain, as opposed to a rigid plank that enables him to float. He manipulates the chakra in his feet to move more freely and as he does this he's seen to regain his posture and balance.

As Mystogan watched his student, he closed his eyes and concentrated. These were basic skills, and his student was obviously becoming tired. But the only way this kid would learn what his limits were was to reach them and discover what happens when he pushes himself further than he could go.
That was good. Now you are ready for the first offensive technique we classify as Ninjutsu. What you have been performing until now are things which most shinobi can perform passively, without even realizing it. Eventually, you too will be among those shinobi. But for now, the jutsu.
This first technique is known as Fukumi Hari, or Hidden Needle, and actually has two different methods of being performed. This first method is that you focus your chakra into your mouth, and then compress it into the form of several sharp needles. Now, while this requires somewhat-advanced shape manipulation, you have as long as you need, and as many attempts as you require to perfect it.
The second method is to place a sharp object, such as a senbon, needle, or even a toothpick, within your mouth. From there, your chakra is once again built up in your mouth, and is then released in a sudden burst, propelling the sharp object forwards at speeds similar to as if it were thrown as a senbon. Both variations move at the same speed, and the only advantage one variant may have over the other is convenience. So please, try both variations, and then come back to me and describe how to use it creatively, and what the drawbacks of this technique are.

(Ki Nobori no Shugyō) - Tree Climbing Practice
Rank: E
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra cost: 5
Damage points: N/A
Description: This is a training method used to gain the basic skills of chakra control. This training involves focusing a fixed amount of chakra to the bottom of one's feet, and using that to climb a tree without using one's hands. If the stream of chakra is too weak, the user will lose their footing on the tree and fall off. If it is too strong, the user will be pushed away from the tree, causing the bark of the tree to break around the point of contact and the user to fall. This technique becomes second nature to shinobi with more practice.
Note: Technique only for use of training methods.
(Suimen Hokō no Gyō) - Water Surface Walking Practice
Rank: E
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra cost: 5
Damage points: N/A
Description: This training method is used to gain better chakra control. To do this, the user has to be emitting a constant stream of chakra from the bottom of the their feet and using the repellent force to walk across the water's surface. This technique is more difficult to master than the Tree Climbing Practice, because the amount of chakra that needs to be emitted changes constantly. This technique becomes second nature to shinobi with more practices.
Note: Technique only for use of training methods.

After listening to his sensei, Sasuke turns around and heads towards the woods. As he goes, he replays all what he had been told in his head. The fact that he is finally about to learn an offensive jutsu excites him. However, he does not allow that excitement to obscure his understanding of what has to be done. As he makes his way towards the first big tree he sees he systematically goes over what had to be done
First, he had to position the needles in his mouth in a way that wasn't going to harm him, but also made their expulsion easy and effective. Next, he had to accurately encase the needles with chakra. This wasn't going to be that difficult he thought. He was very confident in his capacity to manipulate chakra after the first few training exercises he had gone through. The final and most difficult part was how to release those senbon, and do so accurately. Sasuke didn't question his skills as a ninja; he knew he'd probably do okay. The reason he had resolved that this part would be the most difficult is that this was his first time trying it. Since it's not everyday one spits needles from his mouth, he simply foresaw a few glitches.

Upon reaching the tree, Sasuke takes out a kunai and draws many different sized circles creating a bulls-eye target. He then steps back a few feet and proceeds with his task. He takes three senbon from his ninja pouch and place them in his mouth. He places them in such a way that their pointed ends lie right on his tongue's tip. He also ensures that they don't pierce the back of this through. He then proceeds to coat the senbon with chakra he channels to his mouth. After achieving this feat, he takes a deep breath through his nose, and exhales sharply through his mouth releasing the needles as he does. The needles jet out of his mouth and hit the tree he's facing with enough force for them to stay attached. Although they aren't at the exact center of the target he drew, they aren't far off.

Fairly ok with what he's been able to do, he proceeds to try the variation as he had been told. He channels his chakra into his mouth and focuses to shape them into the shape of the senbons he had just used. After successfully shaping 3 chakra senbons in his mouth, he goes through the same ritual he did the first time, drawing in more air this time, and releases them at the target. These hit the exact middle of his target. He turns around and returns to his sensei with a grin on his face showing how happy he is.

Because of the small nature of the needles, they can be very effective as close range sneak attacks. The fact that they can be created using chakra only gives the technique versatility in its performance. Also releasing the needles from the mouth leaves the hands available for performing other actions.

Its major drawback is that it is only effective at close range.

Rank: D
Type:Attack

Description: The user is able to call forth needles into their mouth and then spit them at their opponent with great accuracy.
This next technique is a very basic one; first, I want you to throw a giant Windmill Shuriken towards my clone. However, as you throw the shuriken, I want you to throw a second one behind it; in it's shadow. Now, take as much time as you need to prepare for this jutsu, and when you're able to throw a shuriken that is hidden within the shadow of another, making it invisible to your opponent, I want you describe for me creative uses, advantages and disadvantages, just like for the last technique.

I remove a number of windmill shuriken and place them on the ground beside me. I then practice throwing them in such a way that they travel long distances, and do so in straight lines rather than projectile trajectory which would result in them landing short of a real target. After a few throws, I feel confident in my aiming and throwing skills and proceed to perform what I was told. I pick up two windmill shuriken, one in both hand, and playfully weigh them for a few seconds. I then add the one in my left to my right. I grip them by placing four fingers in the hole in their center and placing my thumb at their edges in between their blades. I then retract my arm backwards, as someone about to throw a discus would, and then swing it forward launching the shurikens from my grip as I do so. In launching the shurikens, I make sure to let go of one just before the other, although with the same swing. I do this by making the first slip out of my grip momentarily before the second as I complete my swing. The two shuriken travel horizontal to the ground towards at a fast rate and pierce a targeted tree violently.

The attack combines two important elements of offense: distraction and damage. Most times we attack, we try to mask our main way of damaging the target with some sort of distraction. This technique on its own provides these two elements and thus can be used individually without a distraction first.

I see the chakra cost of the jutsu as a disadvantage of using this technique. I mean, if you are simply gonna throw windmill shuriken, why waste chakra in doing so? Whether you use this technique or simply just throw a shuriken at the enemy, I think most people would counter with a wind tech making this tech almost as ineffective as using a normal shuriken. Yet still at the plus side, it ensures that your opponent uses a jutsu himself. Unless of course he/she has a dojutsu in which case this is basically trash to him.

I see myself using this technique right after a strong fire technique. Or maybe right before an earth attack. That way I can attack while the opponent counters it. Better still, a fire-this technique-earth combo could work.

Excellent, very good.
(Kage Shuriken no Jutsu) - Shadow Shuriken Technique
Rank: D
Type:Attack
Range:Short-Mid
Chakra Cost:15
Damage Points:20
Description: Kage Shuriken no Jutsu is a Ninjutsu technique utilizing a giant Windmill Shuriken. When throwing the shuriken, the ninja will also throw a second giant shuriken to hide in the shadow of the first. The hidden secondary shuriken can then approach the target without their being aware.
The next jutsu I'll be teaching you is simple to understand, useful to use, and somewhat difficult to perform. Now, I'm going to have my condor fly low circles over your head...
Biting his thumb, Mystogan summoned a basic Condor.

Rank: B
Type: Defense/Attack/Suplementary
Range: N/A
Chakra Cost: 20
Damage points: N/A
Description:
To summon the creature the ninja will wipe blood on his hand, perform the Boar → Dog → Bird → Monkey → Ram handseals and then touch the ground or another object, where a sealing formula will appear. Though it appears that as long as significant pressure is placed against the blood in some form, the summon will be complete, most summoning uses use a solid surface, though in some cases it can even be done mid air. There can be variations to the summoning steps, some ninja like Temari will wipe blood on her fan, then by swinging the fan the animal is summoned. Other ninja like Orochimaru wipe the blood across a snake tattoo on their arm first, then touch the ground. Others will clap their hands directly like Nagato through the use of his Animal Path. The user must have signed the contract with the creature he wants to summon but the technique can be used to summon a generic creature of that contract (B-Rank) which will have no special traits or abilities beyond those normal to the rest of the animals in the contract. The animal is always summoned on the mark that appears upon slamming the users hand or, if not the case, always in short range of the user.

As he flies, I want you to focus your chakra into the air, extending it out and away from your body; like in the Water Walking Exercise. As your chakra flows from your body, focus it around my Condor. As your chakra is focused around my summon, condense it to create a physical, yet invisible, barrier around the bird, making him unable to move. This technique works against any animal and summon except for Boss Summons, as well as summons directly tied to the boss, such as a relative or rival, as their brute strength can overcome the barrier. You cannot otherwise mold chakra while utilizing this jutsu. So why don't you give it a try, and then give me the run through like you have done previously.
