Whilst sitting down down to meditate, Inoichi makes a handgesture and closes his eyes. He awaits the arrival of Kotetsu-kun and Kakuzu-sensei.

Kotetsu falls out of bed, having rolled a little too much to the right. Getting up, he sleepily rubs his eyes as the early morning sunlight penetrates through a crack in his room's curtains.

Hm... So much for a good night's sleep...

Looking at his calendar, Kotetsu notices this particular day had been circled in red marker, with the note "Ninjutsu Training".

Oh, crap.

Suddenly, Kotetsu rushes in a frenzy to put on his shinobi attire. It was almost humorous, the sharp contrast in his demeanor within the span of a few moments.

Kotetsu bursts out of his apartment, half eaten sweet roll held in his mouth. While running, he struggles to buckle and zip the rest of his clothing on. Passerby civilians watch as he comically races down the streets to the agreed training grounds.

Crapcrapcrapcrap I hope Sensei's not there yet...

Upon arriving at the training grounds, Kotetsu spots Inoichi-san. He heaves a sigh of relief; Sensei didn't seem to be there yet.

"Oi, Inoi-"

Before he could finish, Kotetsu notices that Inoichi is in a meditative position. Deciding not to disturb him, Kotetsu leans against one if the nearby training stumps, finishing up his sweet roll.

Deactivating his invisibility as his 2nd student arrives, Kakuzu can be seen with his eyes closed and in a meditative position.

Not a good first impression. Then again, first impressions tend to be wrong. Now, both of you, tell me everything you know about Ninjutsu.

Kotetsu almost chokes on his sweet roll in surprise upon Sensei's entrance. He quickly regains his composure and gives a response...

"Sensei, ninjutsu, which literally means, 'ninja techniques', is one of the three main pillars of shinobi combat. While Taijutsu relies on physical strength and stamina, and Genjutsu primarily relies on illusions, Ninjutsu's focus is on chakra and hand seals."

"Chakra is a life force present in all beings, however, only those who have trained in its usage are able to be aware of its existence and capabilities. That's what we shinobi do. Chakra is a combination of physical and spiritual energy... When manipulated correctly, a shinobi is capable of feats not otherwise possible through a typical human being, such as enhanced healing."

"How does a shinobi manipulate chakra for their needs? It's through hand seals, a series of finger gestures and positions that typically represent an animal. There are many hand seals, and when performed in succession or certain sequences, it allows the manipulation of chakra."

"Chakra can be manipulated in two ways: shape and nature. Shape manipulation allows the user to create shapes and change the physical form of chakra, the Rasengan being a good example, where chakra is manipulated into a spherical shape."

"Nature transformation, on the other hand, allows the user to manipulate their chakra to take the properties of a particular natural element found in our world; namely, fire, water, wind, lightning, and earth."

"Particularly skilled shinobi can combine these two principles together to create powerful techniques."

Not losing focus, Inoichi speaks in a calm manner but with an assertive tone.

"Welcome Kakuzu-sensei.

From what I have gathered, Ninjutsu refers to ninja techniques that can be done with chakra to achieve things not normally possible. Ninjutsu is every ninja's backbone and something that becomes second nature. Like elemental techniques, Ninjutsu also involves the use of chakra and handseals depending on the scope of the technique. Its use varies from menial ones like changing ones appearance to more complex ones like Kage Bunshin. I heard that ninjutsu also includes weapon jutsu like summoning them or multiplying them. If there is more to be learned then that is why I am here, sensei."

Kakuzu slightly tilts his head to the right, quite intrigued that both of his students know a considerable amount already.

Quite impressive. You already know a substantial amount about Ninjutsu, so let me further fortify your knowledge with my explanation of Ninjutsu and everything it entails. However, one thing you both failed to mention is that since Ninjutsu is a more primitive version of Elemental Ninjutsu, most techniques in this category are actually weak to all elemental ones. Few exceptions exist such as Rasengan, where the chakra is worked and molded with advanced shape manipulation, putting it on equal terms with elemental variants. Once you've read and understood the following, we will proceed.

Ninjutsu is the usage of chakra to perform various tasks which can't be performed otherwise. Its an extremely broad term and encompasses many things such as: weapon usage, medical uses, transformations and so on. Unlike Genjutsu, its effects manifest in reality and not solely in the illusonary. A notable user of Ninjutsu is the 2nd Tsuchikage due to his arsenal of highly regarded techniques. Through chakra manipulation alone, he could achieve flight through unknown means, turn his body completely invisible and "split" his chakra into two separate bodies. His splitting technique far surpassed conventional clone techniques as both halves of him are considered the "real" version of him, meaning they couldn't be dispersed.

Ninjutsu isn't solely based around chakra usage and performing complex techniques and maneuvers, but is also in reference to the skill set a ninja should possess. The term "Ninjutsu" literally means ninja skills, leading me to believe its actually a more abstract concept to what we first perceive. A ninja should be a keen analyzer of situations, capable of conjuring up plans, tactics and counters, both in the heat of a battle and in preparation for one. They must make proficient use of the various ninja tools at their disposal, using all of the utensils they possess to the fullest. Awareness is another very important skill a ninja should possess. Paying close attention to detail, making logical inferences about your opponent, gradually deciphering your opponent's fighting style, noticing minute disturbances in your surroundings and remaining vigilant at all times is required if a ninja is to survive. Often a lack of awareness leaves you prone to assassinations, being struck by invisible attacks or worse still, making you unable to realize nor release an illusionary technique.

Even with the astounding abilities a ninja can come to acquire, he/she should never overlook or forget these fundamental rules. It could very well result in their downfall.

Listening intently on Kakuzu's lecture, Inoichi became amazed that he knew quite a lot about Ninjutsu. Inoichi took notes and made sure to keep it with him in case he would have need for it. Inoichi then spoke in a calm and collected voice after his sensei had finished talking.

"What you explained is something I already had an idea about. You just expanded my suspicions and actually confirmed them. I was aware, on the broad spectrum, that Ninjutsu was basically ninja techniques. The bit about Nidaime Tsuchikage was actually interesting and something I never really examined. Quite impressive knowledge Kazuku-sensei."

Alright, our Ninjutsu training can be broken down into the following three categories:
-Weapons Usage
-Logistics of a Battle
-Learning the Techniques

The techniques will be learnt in the following groups:
-Ninja tools, scrolls and weapons usage
-Stealth and Detection (My personal favourite)
-Transformations and clones
-Miscellaneous (All other techniques grouped together)

Note about my training: Since I make you specialize in the different categories one at a time, you'll be learning techniques with different ranks in a random order. That being said, you cannot make any Ninjutsu custom techniques until you complete all of the Ninjutsu techniques.

Right now, we'll begin on weapons usage in a battle. Tell me about all of the ninja tools you know of, describe them thoroughly and how they can be used in battle.

Shin not hesitating, mentions the first of his choices and one of his favorites to Kakuzu-sensei.

Shuriken

First one I know of and love is the Giant Fūma Shuriken. Though it is the signature weapon of my clan, the Fūma Clan, it has been shown that its use has become widespread. Because of its bigger size it is more heavier than the average shuriken. Though it is stronger and difficult to deflect, its sheer size and weight mean one can only usually carry one on hand though that could be delegated by using summoning scrolls. I've heard of a ninja named Tori who used his magnetism kekkei genkai and followed by using a variant of the Giant Fūma Shuriken. As for being used in battle well...I have yet to explore its use in depth.

Speaking of which the shuriken belong in this family since they are essentially the same. Regular shuriken are four-pointed and star shaped like the Fūma shuriken. The smaller ones are actually lightweight which allows for several to be thrown at the same time. This is actually quite beneficial because it can serve as a distraction because you can cover more angles than if you were to use just one.

War Fan

War Fans are used to help compliment some wind and/or fire techniques. Madara and Obito are shown to use a Giant War Fan known as a Gunbai. Temari uses a Giant War Fan but is apparently made of steel since she was seen blocking projectiles with it. From what I know, War Fans were a way for generals to communicate with other soldiers like when to retreat or when to attack. Can't remember clearly. >_<

Kunai

Kunais are the oldest ninja weapon I can think of alongside the sword. They are a simple yet very versatile weapon. They can be used as a sole weapon, to aid in climbing by acting as a hook, and as a component of a scaled attack like having many of them launched at the same time like shuriken. You can also attach bomb tags to it to cause an explosion to distract your opponent. They are pretty handy and something a ninja should never be without.

Scythes

I don't know much about these except Hidan favors it. He can use it quite skillfully and cover long ranges because of the chain he has attached to it. They are quite big and intimidating, and in the hands of a capable user, it can be quite deadly. Scythes are associated with death so many have a fear it may bring bad luck to one.

Sword

I think this is one of the oldest weapons, though not as primitive as the club. There are many types of swords and fall into their own category but they usually share the same characteristic look of being bladed, either single or double. They are great for cutting and slicing and if aided by wind or lightning, they can pierce through even rock or steel.

Blunt-type weapons

Clubs, maces, hammers. These are the type of weapons that don't necessarily cut but rather specialize in causing pressure damage at close range like smashing or breaking.

There's too many -.-

Yu Narukami (my other bio, looks: my avatar) is surprised. Inoichi was gone, replaced by a new individual, Shin. It seems neither of them were fazed by this, he shrugs it off; trhey were shinobi, after all; masters of deception. He himself had transformed into Kotetus's guise before training had started. He speaks.

"I'll try my best to fill in the spots my fellow student missed, sensei."

"Explosive tags are a basic offensive tool used by shinobi. They take the form of a piece of paper with seal markings on it. When a shinobi channels their chakra through it, it results in a combustion reaction that causes a sizable explosion. They can be attached to kunai to form explosive projectiles, or can be used in rapid succession or large scale to potent effect. A good example was Hiruzen's explosive tag feint when he fought Orochimaru. In the hands of a master, it becomes a potentially life threatening weapon to their opponent."

"Another shinobi tool is senbon. They serve a similar purpose to shuriken and other projectile based weapons, but their thin, needle like structure lends to some unique tactics. For example, a senbon is far less conspicuous or detectable than other shinobi weapons, and allows better stealth takedowns or infiltration tactics. One primary advantage is that , as shown by Haku, it can feign a target's death, which is invaluable for espionage. They can also be thrown at higher speeds and quantities ."

"Puppets. Used primarily by Suna shinobi and the Akatsuki member Sasori, they are wooden constructs that the user manipulated with chakra strings for combat and supplementary purposes. The puppet can have hidden weapons such as poison and blades. A shinobi who is a puppeteer can wield multiple puppets in tier arsenal, leading to a good variety of combat options. I myself hope to become an accomplished puppeteer one day!" Yu smiles with confidence.

"Those are some off the top of my head, sensei."

Excellent display from the both of you. Make sure all of your replies are of that caliber.

Angle and direction of Ninja tools
These are the realistic aspects of the RP. We will be covering one at a time starting with Angle. These are some of the things you need to keep in mind when fighting in a battle.

Angle is a very important part when battling and if used right it can give you the upper hand over your opponent. It's very important to understand the angles in a battle. This is mainly used with ninja tools (shuriken, kunai and other projectiles) but you can also use this with certain techniques that are launched at your opponent. Just by stating the angle you can confuse your opponent.

For example:Ninja 1 and Ninja 2 are fighting. N1 throws 2 kunai at N2, one at the angle of 25 and the other on 75. The lower the angle, the faster the projectile. Most new people would say:"I intercept the kunai with one of my own, blocking them both." If you use angles, this is where you can score.

Here is a pic for reference:

If N1 threw the kunai at an angle of 25 first your opponent would probably be defending from that one first thus he would fail to notice the other one. If he blocks the first one then the second one would hit him unless he kept his focus. Thus with one blow you can cause fatal injuries. (Credits to Cobalt)

Another neat trick I picked up is the efficient use of a flash bomb. By hiding a flash bomb in your sleeve/hand and dropping it onto the ground behind your position, you'll slyly blind your opponent without blinding yourself giving you the upper hand. Now, this is a nice tactic, however spamming it or over-using it will make you look unskillful and reliant on the upper hand it gives you. Use it sparsely.

OOC: Effing awesome. Never thought about it like that. o-o . I'll thank Coby when I get a chance. >_>

"Wow, Kakuzu-sensei. All this time I just threw around those things like a fool. Now I know I can be more creative with them. This will really be a help in battle like you said."

It had been a while since Shin had been impressed. He was in awe and for a bit he shuddered to think how deadly his sensei was in battle. If he knew this much, adding to his already immense prowess....this man was truly a demon in disguise.

Yu listens intently to Kakuzu-sensei's words. He seemed to have a vast amount of knowledge and experience regarding ninjutsu; he expected no less.

"A few things are bothering me, sensei. How does the kunai that is thrown at the 75 degree angle going to hit the opponent? If we assume the kunai are thrown at chest level, I'd understand the 25 degree kunai; as it would, based on its trajectory, be aiming for the opponent's upper head/chest area as well, since the angle isn't as skewed. However, wouldn't the 75 degree kunai make a large arc, assuming they are thrown at the same initial velocity? The parabolic arc created by the trajectory of the 75 kunai may result in it landing behind the opponent, meaning the kunai would be flying above their head and end up behind them."

"In that case, wouldn't the 75 kunai serve as a proper distraction rather than the offensive one? If I was in N1's shoes, I'd throw the 75 kunai first, causing my opponent to look up and keep his/her guard up. Then, I'd follow up with the 25 kunai while they're distracted. Would that make sense too, sensei?"

"Also, doesn't the offensive capability of the 75 kunai depend on the distance the kunai is thrown? If we were in a long range fight, the kunai thrown at the larger angle would have a longer distance to be subject to gravity, thus arcing enough to hit the opponent. However, as a tradeoff, it would give N2 a bigger window of opportunity to counter!"

Yu hoped he didn't seem incompetent by asking too many questions...

(Wow, physics 101. I'm loving this :3 )

Kakuzu turns to his student known as Yu whilst listening attentively to what he had to say. Despite not showing a shred of emotion or surprise, he was impressed to say the least. This duo were taking to Ninjutsu much more naturally compared to his other students, both past and current.

Speaking technically, throwing a kunai at a 75 degree angle may very miss your target, meaning it may only serve as a diversionary tactic. However, there are other factors you have to take into consideration. If the distance between you and your opponent is relatively small, the kunai has a higher chance of hitting. If your opponent is considerably taller than you or positioned on a platform of some sort, the kunai would strike them. Furthermore, if your opponent is currently airborne or not needs to be considered. Many factors affect whether or not it would have a chance of striking its intended target.

Now, I want the both of you to state and describe all of the different types of terrains that could be fought in, be as creative as you'd like. Along with this, I want you to list the different types of weather conditions and their significance to you in battle.

Being always the cautious type, Shin pulls out a scroll he had with him and passed it to Kakuzu-sensei. He had compiled this list before and trusted him enough to reveal it to him.

Terrains

Aquatic Terrain

This is an environment where water is the dominant medium. Submarine scenarios, seas, lakes, rivers, marshes, mangrove swamps (jungles covered by water), etc.

Desert Terrain

A terrain where heat and sand prevail. These include dune deserts, stony areas, desolate savannas, etc.

Mountain Terrain

This encompasses zones at great height over the sea level, with rocky formations and little vegetation, and those territories typical of arctic and sub arctic regions. Mountain Terrains are the high, medium and low peaks, defiles, fjords, rocky slopes, ice and snow plains, tundra, etc.

Jungle Terrain

These characterize very solid woods. Rain forests, jungles, thick forests, groves, etc.

Weather

Coastal Weather

Coastal weather can be observed in the coastal or oceanic regions. Basically this is the weather that can be observed from areas near the ocean. One of the most prominent characteristics of coastal weather is that the temperature does not vary so much with the change of seasons throughout the year in these coastal areas. The climate of marine regions is never extreme.

In Battle: This weather is good for water users. You are close to a vast water source. The Land of Water has this type of climate. Sand users could use the beach sand to their advantage.

Hot Weather

Extreme hot weather can be seen in the equatorial regions of the planet or narutoverse for that matter. Throughout the year, the temperature remains very warm in these locations. The climate in these regions are also characterized with being very damp and humid. The amount of rainfall varies greatly throughout the year. In desert regions the rainfall can be as low as 9.7 inches per year. Sometimes the temperature falls a little (only about 3 degrees of Celsius) in the winter months.

In Battle: You could use the humidity to your advantage for making Kirin. In some regions, the rainy ones, would be good to use to your advantage for rain release. Wind release users can take advantage of the climate as well.

Cold Weather

Cold weather can be observed in the polar climate zones. These regions are known for their extreme cold climates. The temperature remains almost same throughout the year in these Polar Regions.

In Battle: Good weather for Ice users and some water users.

Mountain Weather

The weather in the mountainous regions is known as the mountain weather. The climate of those regions is generally cold enough with a good amount of rainfall depending on the region.

In Battle: Good weather for earth release users.

Yu listens intently. Kakuzu-sensei truly was admirable. "I understand, thank you for the clarification". He bows slightly in respect and moves on to the next task he had given them. Shin had already provided his answer.

thinking: I suppose I'll cover what Shin didn't. He was also thoroughly impressed with his partner's knowledge.

Terrains:

- Urban Environments: Somewhere like Konoha, or Amegakure, where Jiraiya fought Pain. These aren't as common due to their complexity in scripting and positioning without the use of imagery. Also, it doesn't provide many natural elements as a source for certain elemental ninjutsu. However, a skilled shinobi can easily dodge, evade, escape due to the intricacies of such an environment.

- Plains: The simplest, easiest form of battle arena, a flat plain ground. Straightforward and least prone to contention during a battle. Very neutral.

- Cliffs, Plateaus: An extension of mountainous areas, Earth users/specialists may find this their idea arena depending on their strategy.

- Islands: I've rarely seen a fight on an island, but the self-contained nature of it allows for multiple ecosystems to exist simultaneously, and the large surrounding body of water is a godsend for Water users/specialists.

Weather:

- I'm going to classify weather based on a few criteria: Temperature, Humidity, and Surroundings.

High Temperature/High Humidity: Advantageous for Water users since it'd literally be like a tropical jungle environment. If surrounded by things like vegetation and a forest, this can help in diversionary tactics, stealth, etc. However, since Earth>Water, a water user would be careful not to use too much water lest the opponent counters with equal and greater amounts of Earth. Lightning users can use this to create tropical storms to their advantage.

Low Temperature/High Humidity: Wet and Cold. Self explanatory, Ice and Water users' dream terrain. Thunderstorms can be caused as well.

High Temperature/Low Humidity: Arid and dry; desert like. Fire users can use this to their advantage. If surrounded by desert plants and vegetation, the amount of available oxygen as a byproduct of photosynthesis increases, allowing for more potent Fire attacks. Both combatants must be cautious to not dry themselves out. Wind users can use their techniques to blow hot air, and combined with Fire Style, it's highly viable.

Low Temperature/Low Humidity: Actually a disadvantage to Ice/Water users due to low available moisture; think a cold desert at night. Not ideal for a match, but perhaps Earth Users will have plenty of available Earth to use. Wind users can take advantage of dry air as well.

You're probably wondering why I asked you to do that. Here's why. In certain environments, shinobi exist who can launch attacks difficult to perceive. During rainy conditions, a rain user can sharpen a single or multiple droplets of rain into needle-like blades, granting them the ability to kill you without you even realizing it. The same applies to snowy conditions, hail and etc. Sand users are particularly dangerous in deserts. There are even some ninja which can manipulate the temperature of the battlefield itself e.g. Custom Elements: Arid and Temperature. If you're fighting in a extremity climate (very hot or very cold), you'd be at a serious disadvantage.

Awareness is key. No matter how strong any opponent is, if he or she has no knowledge of your next attack, they're probably done for. Knowledge is power. Being wary at all times and having the necessary skills to perceive all types of offensives are essential to your survival. I've broken down the three main causes of death for shinobi due to a lack of awareness in battle.

Speed enhancements
These can come in many forms such as: Leg Weights, Bijuu chakra cloaks, Elemental armours, Swift Release and the Eight Inner Gates. However, many people can come to access quick usage speed boosts (which aren't continuous) which allow the user to move from one location to another with near untracakble speeds.

The best way to counter these is to first recognize a speed enhancement has been used e.g Leg Weights dropping, a cloak manifesting and etc. After that happens, either manipulate the terrain to your favour (e.g. create a swamp) or construct a defensive shield/armour to protect yourself.

Attacks invisible to the naked eye
Observe the distortions in the air, the sounds they create and so on. However, most of the time this will not help.

Genjutsu/Illusionary techniques
The first step in realizing a genjutsu is observing for anything overly-obvious or something which would naturally probe your character's suspicion. In battle, I want you to observe even the smallest of disturbances in your surroundings and the slightest inconsistencies. I want you to notice, if a tree begins coiling around you, does it produce growing sounds as it emerges ? If a fireball is shot towards you, does the heat of the technique resonate from it and make you feel like the temperature is rising ? If you see an illusionary clone walking towards you, does it bend the grass when it walks ? If you get burnt by something, does the wound sizzle as the burn is inflicted ? Does the water beneath your feet ripple when you walk, or make any splashing sounds ?

Pay very close attention to the senses a technique affects, its fundamental to breaking a genjutsu. If a technique doesn't specify the senses it affects, make sure you don't assume anything. Find other ways of seeing through the technique. Does the illusion respect the laws of reality ? Does the illusion distort happen to abruptly and distorts the natural occurrence of events ? I can't teach you how to realize every genjutsu, I can only teach you the concept of doing so. The rest is up to how much you take away from this training. One thing to bare in mind is, when you're trying to realize genjutsu, don't come up with extremely complicated thought processes or anything which wouldn't be realistic in the heat of a battle. I don't want you to "god-mod" or try to use knowledge your character doesn't have to break Genjutsus. You must be realistic and legitimate in the way you break genjutsus.

All of this is said from my perspective. My bios do not possess any sensory capabilities or a Doijutsu. If you wield sensing or a Doijutsu, you'll have a much greater sense of awareness compared to normal shinobi. You're capable of tracking faster speeds, "knowing" about invisible attacks and detecting foreign chakra in your bodies (Genjutsu). If this sort of thing intrigues you, you might like to look into the Byakugan.

Once you've read and understood the above, post here and we'll move onto the techniques.

"Awareness... awareness... that is the common theme, sensei. I understand, and am ready to continue." I take note as such, heightening my own senses slightly, trying to hear the flow of the gentle breeze at the training grounds... becoming aware of my feet, planted firmly on the earth. My eyes are now focused as my gaze focuses.
