Technology is accessible, ninjutsu is not. If there was too great a divide between technocracy and ninja system the technocracy would have guns to counteract human flamethrowers. So imagine if capable ninja got hold of the same weapons non-ninjutsu wielders did. Big disparity. Not to mention, imagine if somebody got a gun and infused his chakra with it. If a division between non-ninja and ninja occurred, the ninja would win on the assumption they have access to the same weaponry.

The developmental trajectory of the NU universe looks bad but for different reasons I'd wager.

Dont see how a gun gonna stop susanoo, genjutsu, S/Ts, Nature manipulations of huge scales, even basic katon release can be more effective.

Needless to mention that fact ninjas can leap over 10s of metes (fodder ones) have healing, all sorts of body enhancements.

Lets not get started on basic substitutions and bunshins which will empty all the rounds you have neg diff.
How many ninjas are there to the average person? How many people have Susano'o, S/T, etc.?
This isn't a fight between soldiers and ninjas... Ninjas will be replaced by soldiers, this isn't a vs thread. If one fighting style is incredible but only available to a select few and another fighting style is just as good in its own ways and is available to everyone, society will choose the one available to everyone. That one will get the funding, the refinements, the attention, the innovations. It won't be quick, but it will happen.

Who says there would be a division?

Out. Die out. Because of the rapid pace of technology. Concrete skyscrapers and corporations and laptops... Eventually someone will create weapons that anybody can use, and armies will be formed with soldiers carrying these weapons. Now people won't have to train for decades on end in "ninja arts" when they can kill people just easily with something like, I dunno, a gun. And then Ninjutsu and Genjutsu will die, and ninjas alongside them......

This was such a great ending!! 12/10 would read every day!! Kishi didn't shit on his manga :D If you don't like it then STFU UR A HATER AND **** YOU **** YOU **** YOU

You know..that's one thing I never understood...there was a naruto robot episode. What did that robot have? MISSLES Why deosn't konoha just use missiles and guns????

Like what does it matter when few prodigies can take on armies?

The OP brought up a very interesting topic. With the introduction of technology, would ninja become obsolete? I am of the opinion that, because of the setting of the NARUTO manga, it would be quite impossible to make them obsolete.

Let us consider the topic first from the OP point of view. With the introduction of new weapon technology (ballistics, mecha, etc.) even the average person could defeat an army of human ninja. Chakra attacks would have no effect on tanks and the sort, and therefore would become a less practiced form of combat. To all of this, I say no, the reason being because of the setting of NARUTO. Unlike our world, where ninja were fewer in number than samurai, highly dependent on even the most minor of daimyo, and chakra-less, ninja in the NARUTO world are the apex humans. They are the militarily strongest entities, and there are many of them. The five major villages themselves are lead by kage who are stated to be on the SAME level (influence wise) as their daimyo. The symbiotic relationship is simply mutually beneficial. And as history shows, ninja have been around for at least 1000 years. That is a long time, longer than any single type of combat specialization in OUR world at least.

Next, let us not look at ninja from the Orochimaru point of view (ninja is someone that uses ninjutsu, chakra, etc.) but rather from the point of view of Jiraiya, Naruto, and even Sasuke (in the end): A ninja is one that endures. In this case I believe that, despite the changes, an active approach to maintaining the ninja traditions, such as Ino was shown to be doing in the epilogue, would keep ninja at the top. Enduring through this new age might be the greatest challenge, but a worthy one. Obviously they are trying, as the ninja system still seems to be in place.

Lastly, and I believe by far the most important, is the role of ninja. They were militarily minded, and the most important thing in any organized military is information. Ninja work involves the accumulation and exploitation of information. I think that if there were new weapons or technologies to come about, that ninja would be the FIRST to know and utilize them. Shuriken and swords are not the weapon of a ninja. Jutsu are also not the weapon of the ninja. The ninja himself is the weapon, and everything else is just an add-on. I consider kunai, shuriken, swords, etc, as metaphorical scopes, laser-sights, and extended magazines to the already fully functional rifle that is the ninja. With this said, I believe if guns were introduced that the ninja would simply become people with holstered silenced handguns instead of shuriken. They would still stick to walls, and when ammunition runs out, then they would breathe fire. They may even create gun techniques. If a mecha was being built, best believe that there would be a branch created in every village in computer sciences and programming/metallurgy/piloting to utilize this technology...or at least ways to destroy it. Chakra is too valuable as a weapon to simply be forgotten. Magnet release would be very useful with a bandolier of hollow-point bullets.

To conclude this, I do not think that chakra, or ninja, would become outdated. The world's history was too intertwined with ninja for that to happen. They would just upgrade along with the world, which is actually what I think the epilogue was TRYING to show. What do you think?

Lamo! Yeah, like people who move at supersonic speed will be hit by bullets! Technology is nothing new to NV. We've seen CPUs in NV before.

Lemme break this down since people can't understand.

I am not saying ninjas and soldiers will go to war with each other. I am saying guns, and robots, and missiles, and other things will replace ninjas. Because that is something anyone can use, unlike Ninjutsu and Genjutsu which requires years and years of intense physical and psychological training starting from childhood.

The regular armies will outnumber ninjas by a long-shot. And their weapons are easier to use and get the job done just as well. He'll, look at the jobs people pay ninjas to do. Bodyguards and assassins and search and rescue and kidnapping. These can be done with people using technology too, not just people using ninjutsu.

Ninjas and soldiers will not fight. They would compete, but there wouldn't be any wars. Well, unless the ninjas are insane and establish a dictatorship and limit the progress of technology.

For ninjas to not become outdated, technology would have to stop progressing. Which it won't be while there's all this peace and happiness.

Oh. I get it. People thought I meant ninjas would LITERALLY die. I meant that as how I meant it in the first couple sentences... Figuratively, not literally...

To produce all the high tech weaponry which would erase the need of ninjas is hardly possible.

Unthinkable amount of economical and physical resources as well as time is needed to create and maintain those.

A living being that has chakra and can restore it with casual means (sleep eat) is far more efficient.

Even if it get to the point where military weaponry will be able to challenge ninja arts minor genetic engeeniring will breed new hagoromos.

And dont get me started on edo tensei U_U

Exactly. Saying Ninjas will die off is equivalent to saying a planet of superheroes will die off just because there are guns. That doesn't make much sense.

lol it really isn't.
Unthinkable? Again, no. Who imagined Konoha would turn into a bustling city and corporate center within 17 years of peace? I'm sure most people here, me included, would have called that unthinkable. Technology moves pretty quickly, that has been proven in the last chapter. Give it a century and where do you think technology will be?
And if technology doesn't erase Ninjutsu, you're right, it will enhance it tenfold. Either way, underlying point is the theme and atmosphere of the manga has been destroyed thank you Kishi

NV already had such technology they just implemented it.

A country or city that known war doesnt get all prosperous so easily and there've been like 4 world wars during 100y of konoha's existence.
