This might be a bit "different" thread than others, but take in mind all those killings and murders that happen in Naruto, especially those committed by "good" characters:

chapter 240 - Kakashi almost got killed by that Iwa ninja.... But it's unknown whether that dude was indeed trying to kill child Kakashi, but Minato mercilessly executing him like that? No prisoner taking? Well, he could have broken that guy's knee if they couldn't take prisoners, but since he was a profound teleporter, he could have just teleported hm to Konoha and that's it...

chapter 242
here we see a lot of ninjas killed by each other, and Minato (presumably) annihilating additional 50 guys all by himself....And further 20 ninjas more after saving Kakashi (few chapters later)...didn't give them any chance really.

chapter 542 - B killing several Iwa ninjas..even though he could have just injured them/ render them disabled by breaking their knees etc...... And it didn't even look like those Iwa dudes even tried to kill B or A.....
yet those 2 just mercilessly came and chopped the head off that poor scared dude who most likely pooped himself...and then just laughed about it later...

Chapter 59...those two poor fellows begging for their lifes during just a chunin exam.....and Gaara murdering them while Temari just laughed about it.... I understand that Gaara was a prick back then and i definitely hoped that karma would get him back in shinobi world war (despite his sudden turning into a "good guy")...but...nah...at least we can see Temari was evil as well!

Yes, I've seen lots of dead ninjas in war/skirmishes in Narutoverse...but why do they kill that much? Even Madara (prior to completely losing his mind in favor of mugen tsukuyomi) let Onoki and Mu live, despite pwning them like nothing....

And those are just few examples....I just wanted to point out that shinobi world as it was during Naruto parts 1 and 2 was really evil....

By the way, check some casualties of battles during medieval/ancient times (that there were, in most cases many, many more survivors on both sides than most people really think...)

Ninjas killing opposing ninjas in a war isn't some indication that they're awful. Like becoming a president means getting involved with the deaths of tens of thousands, maybe millions or hundreds, the position major characters are placed into requires them to kill. Any surviving scrub is just another scrub to kill their own & taking prisoners of war is not a common thing in reality either nor is it like many have a track record for treating prisoners of war well.
