*Spoilers Ahead*
I was a little late seeing the new Blood Wars movie, but I was very glad I finally did. The reviews were not great and I feared it'd be more of the same yet despite this logic, I knew there would be some great action and Kate is always nice to look at so I justified seeing it.
So how did it stack up? To be honest, it was very much separated from the previous installments in my eyes. There was so much going on, so much double crossing, backstabbing, alternative motives, it was quite the debacle. There was a lot of implied *** and some domination going on, and not the typical kind. There were some rather rash decisions being made by some characters.... namely what you should not do as a vampire; lie. Considering every vampire has the ability to drink one drop of your blood and instantly know everything you've done.... ya not a race to betray plain and simple and yet we see many of them doing it. Silly vampires.
Perhaps best of all was the new villain, and the special powers he and the main characters possessed. It created some pretty hilarious scenes, basically the battle of the immortals. Yet he was constantly reluctant to go to battle. He was very clever and cunning. One thing that didn't quite make sense was the adding to Selene's story, in a way. She is referred to as being of pure blood in this movie, yet we know she was a normal human turned vampire before the start of the series, so how is that possible?
Despite this, perhaps coolest of all was the introduction of a new coven in the north, housing vampires of special power. Their story is unique and comparable to another story that I want to compare in a separate thread, so please read that as well.
Overall, it was a pretty great movie experience. It had tons of action and tons of new characters. The revisited characters were done well and didn't seem overdone. There were some humorous scenes and implied *** was rampant. Kate stole the show like always but her opponents were cunning and strong, superior to those of the past. The level of backstabbing and gratuitous plans was a bit over the top, but added quite a good level of suspense. We find out secrets about characters pasts and the subtle art of drinking blood of dead vampires help push this along. Again, if you're a vampire you best not betray your race considering they can tell all your lies by drinking a single drop of your blood, just saying. Great movie overall, I'd give it at least 7/10, maybe as much as 4 stars for a level of originality, but I'm a fan as well.
