Given that the novels are signed off on by Kishi that makes them canon. They fit into the timeline of the story. Naruto isn't the first series that filled in gaps or concluded uses other mediums than the manga.

I would read it if I wasn't such a lazy reader. I'd prefer a manga by far, but I'd give the anime another try if it adapts the novel in the future, because Mirai Sarutobi is pretty much the only new-gen character that I like.

Kishi doesn't sign anything off. All he does is some artwork, at the behest of the contract he has with his publisher. If it's not wrote by him, it's not canon.

by that logic The Last isn't canon then, because Kishi had a team of writers do the story and all he did was look over the final draft that Mauro Kyôzuka wrote. For those novels it's the same thing, Kishi has to approve them. The publisher can't put those books into print without his final say. I worked in publishing, I've seen this happen.

Wrong on many counts.

The Last is canon because Kishi conceptualized and wrote an outline for the story; he has no part in the writing of the novels and because of that, it is not canon. It's not just about publishing either; it's a whole franchise. He's signed over rights to use the Naruto name, story and it's characters; they can do and publish what they want - this is about his contract and law. He's never even "approved" any of these novels and even if he had, that does not make them canon.

Where can we read this novels? Will NB release the english trans here? So far it has only the Kakashi Novel.
