Neji vs Shikamaru

Three things:
1) If a shadow directly touches Neji he can break free by emitting chakra from his body, just like Kidomaru's web.
2) Let's say they both clash with a punch, Shikamaru won't be able to transmit chakra through the shadow of his punch to Neji because the chakra points in his arm are already affected and damaged.
3) When Shikamaru did this to Hidan, he had already a small shadow out, all he needed to do was extend it, Neji would notice this. And besdies, you're imagining a close-combat battled..if it gets close combat, Neji would just use one of his many Jyuuken techniques that if hit, Shikamaru wont be able to use chakra.

so you're saying neji can cut off chakra from a "punch"? i doubt it. if they clashed with a "punch", then shika would be able to catch him. his gentle fist strikes aren't punches.

I say punch but you must understand Neji does not strike with punches, but with fingers or his palm. If they clash in any way, fingers vs punch (or arm), palm vs punch (or arm) Neji can damage chakra points. Besides, Neji can break off free from Shikamaru's shadow just as I stated earlier. Also, while they are clashing, Neji has his other hand free to do any Gentle Fist technique (Empty Palm, Vacuum Palm and such) or Air Palm.

With Shikamaru with incredible mental tactics and also a natural born quick thinker , but lacks in the Stamina department , whereas Neji , has the palm techniques but cannot rotate forever , less smarter than shikamaru but still very bright.

You clearly haven't read anything have you?
1) True, Shikamaru is clearly a brilliant shinobi.
2) He has to stop to plan.
3) Stamina, speed and strength.
4) Neji doesn't need to rotate, he can evade the shadows using his Byakugan. Besides, Neji can rotate more than what Shikamaru can use his shadows. He has more chakra and stamina.
4) Yes, although Neji may be a genius, Shikamaru has been said to go beyond than that. Still, Neji is more skilled.

Shika is a long ranged fighter how will neji get close to him without getting stuck in his shadow?

Shikamaru is a mid range fighter , not a long range.And Neji has a mid range jutsu.

Thank you for clarifying that! And yes, the Eight Triagrams 64 Palms and the Air Palm techniques are all mid-range. The palms could even be mid-long..

Yup, I totally agree, I don't think he would either underestimate or let his guard down against Shikamaru.

Im thinking Neji. Shikamaru usually doesnt do well in one on one fights where he doesnt have a squad to distract the opponent long enough for him to plan a strategy. And since a majority of his plans rely on ninja tools, which Neji can repel, than he is at too many disadvantages.
