I disagree.Firstly, according to the last databook, Sasuke and Neji have the same speed, so speed is neither an advantage or disadvantage for either shinobi. But if both shinobi are on equal footing with speed and one is a taijutsu expert, I would give a slight advantage to the one who's better with taijutsu in a close combat fight, which I assume a fight between neji and sasuke would be. Secondly, sharingan can track movements but it has been shown enable to predict on unorthodox movements, and Neji can release chakra from every point in his body. Also, heaven spin is not just defensive weapon, but an offensive weapon because it sends the force of a shinobi's attack right back at him.I know this would be impossible to do this to kirn, but I think Kirin is not a realistic option in a real fight.Every opponent isn't Itachi, who basically help Sasuke use kirin.I don't any shinobi would allow sasuke to first heat up the atmosphere and use kirin. This would leave sasuke without any attack that I think can penetrate heaven spin.
Neji does not have unorthodox movements though and so all of his taijutsu attacks would be successfully parried and counter-attacked.

Do you remember the fight against Naruto at the valley of the end? Sasuke was nowhere near Naruto's speed once he started using the nine-tails chakra and yet once he activated the 3rd tomoe he was able to attack Naruto easily and didn't get hit at all.

Secondly before Sasuke got MS and EMS, he was primarily a taijutsu and nin-taijutsu fighter (chidori). He copied some taijutsu from Rock Lee and was able to hold his own (for a little while at least) against Itachi, an incredibly fast and skilled taijutsu fighter.

I mean for 3 years his entire fighting style was built upon his ability to fight and counter taijutsu so that he could use chidori.

Beginning Part 2 base sasuke is strong enough to beat naruto, yamato, sai, and sakura combined. There is no way neji is beating him.

Neji's reflexes? What have we seen from him since the chuunin exams and rescue sasuke arc? He got trapped by the clone of the 30% kisame's water dome, that's reflexes for ya. While yamato, naruto, and co were all astonished by sasuke's amazing speed. Even deidara was amazed at sasuke's speed. Neji has gotten no such comments.

Sasuke still has his many raikiri variants, chidori spear, chidori sword, regular chidori, and his standard sharingan was perceptive enough to let him blitz the raikage. Base sasuke is at a whole different level than neji.

I've will forget the fact that Sasuke at that point had the curse seal, but remember what Yamato said, he wasn't going at Sasuke with the intent to killed during that fight.Naruto didn't even move, while sai was at a disadvantage because he was protecting naruto from sasuke blade, not giving him anytime to use his ninjutsu.Sakura was just a waste, I don't even know while you brought her up.Looking at those circumstances, a fight between neji would be a hell of a lot different. Also, using others thoughts on Sasuke's speed is meaningless since the series is basically set up to boost the sasuke/naruto narrative.Of course you are going to have characters marveling at the powers of the main storyline drivers (Sasuke/Naruto). Also, I wouldn't judge Neji reflexes by that fight with Kisame. That was clearly poor writing on kishi part, seeing as even Lee got caught in that water prison jutsu when Lee reflexes and speed are supposed to be off the charts.Which goes back to my point of how certain characters, naruto, kakashi, sasuke, are giving more feats because of their vital roles in the naruto/sasuke narrative while others are written poorly and sometimes downgrade from what their abilites supposedly are. That kisame fight being a clear case of that.As for the variation of chidori, I doubt any of those can penetrate heavenly spin, which basically uses the force of the opponent attack and throws it right back at the opponent. When Neji was just a genin, his heavenly spin was able to send the power naruto pull from the nine tails back at him.Neji is a jonin now, I can only assume his power has significantly increase since then, making sasuke chidori variations far too weak.I think you are overrated sasuke base on the I see him more syndrome.Without his regular sharingan and no curse seal, I just don't see sasuke winning.

On a side note, this debates further shows the complete lack of development of the byakugan and characters like neji.

Sasuke has sharingan, he can genjutsu Neji and i don´t think it´ll be easy to break out, all neji has is taijutsu and he´s too one-dimensional to take on someone like sasuke.
Sasuke predicts all his movements and he´s faster, he can use chidori nagashi if he gets close and he has his fire techniques which will push neji to either dodge it or use rotation thus tiring himself out.
Sasuke will also know from the first taijutsu brawl what he´s doing and avoid getting into taijutsu with him.
Neji isn´t on sasuke level for gods sake!

Neji will win this. His taijutsu and chakra control is the same if not greater than sasukes. The byakugan will see everything within range, no matter how fast it is, unlike sharingan. Sasuke can't use kirin since the time it takes to prepare for it long. Their speed is relatively the same, but nejis hand speeds are much faster by far with his eight trigrams sixty four palms attack. The gentle fist is a very hard style to counter since it just needs to connect to casue major damage to the chakra network.

Nope, look at the title of that chapter the fight happened at, its called 'Sasuke's Power'. Sasuke was at a different level than naruto was, which is why he had to do his crazy training to obtain rasenshuriken. Kakashi said sasuke

Also, using others thoughts on Sasuke's speed is meaningless since the series is basically set up to boost the sasuke/naruto narrative.Of course you are going to have characters marveling at the powers of the main storyline drivers (Sasuke/Naruto).

Which goes back to my point of how certain characters, naruto, kakashi, sasuke, are giving more feats because of their vital roles in the naruto/sasuke narrative while others are written poorly and sometimes downgrade from what their abilites supposedly are.

You forgot to add that in the process, neji gets hit with just as much damage as naruto gets hit with. While sasuke won't since his chidori spear is far away from his body, while neji will be in the middle of kaiten.

Neji is a jonin now, I can only assume his power has significantly increase since then, making sasuke chidori variations far too weak.I think you are overrated sasuke base on the I see him more syndrome.Without his regular sharingan and no curse seal, I just don't see sasuke winning.

So basically you are ignoring manga feats and saying neji should be at a certain strength level because you don't agree with kishi and think that he should have written neji to be stronger. We have to go by what has been shown in the manga whether we like it or not. If we go by our opinions on how strong a character should be, while ignoring character feats that kishi has given us, there is nothing concrete that we can base our arguments on.

So basically:
by manga feats Base Sasuke >> Neji

Saying Neji > Base sasuke is disregarding shown feats and gong by pure fanfaith.

Also read

and

it makes it very clear that sasuke is out of naruto's reach even though he is probably stronger than neji himself.

Where are you getting this ludicrous idea that the Byakugan can see everything regardless of its speed?

That is completely false and makes no sense. That isn't one of the abilities afforded by the Byakugan.

I will try to put it into a simple analogy for you. Let's say that the Byakugan is the same as having cameras set up all around to cover every angle, and these cameras can zoom very far away and has x-ray vision.

The sharingan on the other hand is comparable to high speed camera, seeing things at a much faster speed than the Byakugan "cameras" but lacking the zoom capability and the x-ray vision.

SO let's set those cameras up, the Byakugan can see all around it but it doesn't have the shutter speed of the Sharingan and so it only sees a fraction of the movements and instead it registers as a blur to them. This is exactly how it would be, if someone were sufficiently fast then Neji would only see a blur while Sasuke, viewing the same person, would be able to see them clearly.

Also you say that Neji only needs to connect but clearly you are forgetting that Kishi is an Uchiha fanboy and so makes the sharingan OP. He made it so that even a 3 tomoe sharingan can predict where the opponent will be by noticing subtle muscle movements. So if Neji and Sasuke were the same speed (which I don't think they are) then Sasuke could never lose because he would be able to see where Neji is going to hit and so be able to block, dodge, or counter attack with ease. Reread the valley of the end fight if you need proof because I am right.

I understand what you meant when you said that it can't see a very fast opponent clearly like the sharingan, but the fact is that he can still see something since the byakugan is widely known to see everything. Its might not be as clear as the sharingan's focus, but you cannot escape a ninja with the ability to see everything around them in a near 360 degrees. The sharingan can only see an opponent that is within their sight. BTW your comparisons of both doujutsu with the camera was quite impressive and easy to understand thank you.

I believe that they would be quite even since Neji can't really attack effectively because of the sharingan's tracking abilities as you mentioned, but sasuke wouldn't be able to make much headway either, since Neji will always see where sasuke will be attacking from and defend using his either his gentle fist, using spinning motions to keep up with him, or use the rotation to block any incoming justus or projectiles. So in a way, he wouldn't necessarily lose, but technically he wouldn't be able to win either.

Yes I think taijutsu would be useless for either of them, and Sasuke's chidori wouldn't work either.

I think you are right in the fact that it would be a stalemate, at least for a while. The only way I can see Sasuke winning is by using a genjutsu on Neji, just to buy him some time to prepare kirin.

And thank you for approval of my analogy, that is how I have always thought about it.

I am in agreement, although Neji could possibly see through the genjutsu in time to see him preparing or possibly avoid the genjutsu altogether.

Also +rep for the interesting convo.

So we will just ignore the fact that sasuke at that point is waay faster than neji's standard speed he has shown to have.
I never said anything of the sort.I said we can't take peoples opinion, the key word being opinion, of sasuke's supposed speed into account because it clear that the series is written in a way to boost the accolades of naruto/sasuke.

Saying poor writing = arguing with the manga. The manga is fact, neji's speed is standard, while sasuke's speed is far above standard.
Saying poor written means poor writing, if there is a clear contradiction, that is poor writing. That fight was contradicted everything we have previously seen from team guy.The fact that someone who has shown to have superior reflexes and speed in Rock Lee was easily caught in that water prison jutsu along with Neji and Tenten is a contradiction.Meaning either the characters Rock Lee has gotten weaker and slower, which makes no sense since he has graduated to a higher level or that battle scene was written in a way that contradict what we previously seen. That why I can say the kisame fight isn't a true showing of Neji ability because if you accept that contradiction, you must also accept others.Neji fighting style and the Hyuga fighting style in general has been portray as quick hand to hand combat with tremendous speed.Even when Neji broke out of that water prison his speed and reflexes were shown as being remarkable. So you have to asked yourself, how did it make sense for Neji to get caught in that jutsu in the first beginning.Neji speed in that once instant was shown to be far above average.

You forgot to add that in the process, neji gets hit with just as much damage as naruto gets hit with. While sasuke won't since his chidori spear is far away from his body, while neji will be in the middle of kaiten.

Well actually it makes perfect sense that Lee and Neji were able to be caught in the water prison as all of these people have: Kakashi, Naruto, Yamato, Guy, Killer Bee, and that one Konoha ninja who always wears sunglasses. (Also ten-ten but she doesn't compare to the others)

So I wouldn't call that a contradiction, the same as I wouldn't call Amaterasu not burning up Gaara's sand a contradiction. Amaterasu burns whatever the user aims it at, and whatever touches it after it is already burning. However it won't spread on it's own. (Otherwise the world would end in Amaterasu xd)

But anyway sand is not a huge solid thing like a tree or rocks, it is little grains of sand. So if Amaterasu burns some sand grains and turns them to glass (or melts them) then it would be doing exactly what the description of Amaterasu says it would, which is to continue burning until the target is turned to ash.

If he's on a different level than naruto, I'm sure he's just as farther or even more farther above neji.

I never said anything of the sort.I said we can't take peoples opinion, the key word being opinion, of sasuke's supposed speed into account because it clear that the series is written in a way to boost the accolades of naruto/sasuke.
Yes we can, especially when we see everyone's base speed: (gai, lee, ten ten, neji, narto, kakashi, chiyo, sakura) is around the same general level after the timeskip, and then we have sasuke moving so fast that no one notices him until he's right in front of naruto.
Fact is Base sasuke's speed >> Neji's speed

If neji is anywhere near what sasuke's level, he would have taken down a 30% kisame himself.

I wasn't giving anyone anything that hasn't been shown. But, if something contradicts an earlier part of the manga, I have the right to question it.Just like my example of Rock Lee speed and reflexes.
Rock lee's speed and reflexes is not a contradiction to the earlier part of the manga, everyone has just caught up to him in speed. Like it or not, he does not have his overwelming speed advantage on anyone anymore.

I can also go further, with contradiction like amaterasu supposed burning everything to ash.Well, in the manga sasuke hit Gaara sand with amaterasu, but gaara is still alive and his sand didn't burn to ash. That's a contradiction, just like what was shown from Neji in that fight with kisame compared to neji's earlier fights.Kishi may not be wrong, but he does make mistakes which calls into question certain events in the manga.
If you are comparing two characters at a certain point in time, you use the feats that have been performed the closest to what they have been shown to do. Contradiction or not, if we are debating current characters, then they get their current feats, in which neji's speed, attack power, and everything is not up to par with Base sasuke's.

The problem with that is naruto attack was a close range attack and was power by the nine tails fox.Sasuke's chidori spears can't produce that amount of power and force.
Untrue. The spear is extremely powerful, strong enough to cut off one of the eight tails legs.

I'm not ignoring the feats, I'm pointing out the contradictions.Contradictions in the manga that I believe gives us readers some room for interpretation.

Fact:
Part 2 Neji and lee are slower than as 30% base kisame.
Part 2 Neji's speed is not noticeably above Naruto, yamato, sakura, kakashi's speed.

Post timeskip sasuke's base speed is far above Yamato, Sai, Sakura, and Part 2 Naruto's.

Sasuke has the ability to do fight greatly at both close and long-range, while neji only has one mid-range attack which fails to kill white zetsu.

Base sasuke at the start of Part 2 is borderline Kage level. Later he is strong and fast enough to at least defend himself against base bee with his seven swords. Later than that he is fast enough and has the reflexes to blitz V1 raikage.

No neji is not beating Base sasuke, sorry.
