OK so my professor tells the class to write a brief essay on what the next new technologies will be. I'm sitting here and i cant think of anything new that will come out. All i can think of is things that will replace stuff. for and example cell phones will replace land lines (home phones). but see that's all ready happening so it isn't new. i also thought about how cell phones with all there gadgets will remove things like a calender, clock, etc but again its all ready doing that.

I'm hoping some of the great people on Nb can throw a few ideas my way. I'm all ears for any help you can give and *reps* for those who help. Thanks :)

Hand-held video game systems will replace cell phones.

They'll have all the things cell phones have, plus the graphics capable for real gaming...

Thats what I can think of off the top of my head.

Ooo, or holograms like in Star Wars. It'd basically be an upgrade from film projectors

Not sure if any of that will work....but I tried :p

Thanks for trying man but i dont think he will let me slide by talking about hand held video games. i also dont see a hand held game replacing a cell phone in which can play games and tons more. but again thanks for trying. *reps*

well i am thinking of artificial created lifeforms some of them have been created which is quite an achievement as creating lifeform simply from non living organic chemicals will help us in producing microorganisms that are important for things for eg agarose gel can be than created in a masive scale as then we would simply create Gelidium to extract agar.

@ I heard about bill gates plans on terrapowr that he said would be a great achievement as it would provide quite a lot of energy from nuclear reactions...it also prevents the danger from the nuclear reactions.watch this vid it wil explain better .

Wireless Power Transmission

Wireless power transmission has been a dream since the days when Nikola Tesla imagined a world studded with enormous Tesla coils. But aside from advances in recharging electric toothbrushes, wireless power has so far failed to make significant inroads into consumer-level gear.

What is it? This summer, Intel researchers demonstrated a method--based on MIT research--for throwing electricity a distance of a few feet, without wires and without any dangers to bystanders (well, none that they know about yet). Intel calls the technology a "wireless resonant energy link," and it works by sending a specific, 10-MHz signal through a coil of wire; a similar, nearby coil of wire resonates in tune with the frequency, causing electrons to flow through that coil too. Though the design is primitive, it can light up a 60-watt bulb with 70 percent efficiency.

Memristor

The memristor, a microscopic component that can "remember" electrical states even when turned off. It's expected to be far cheaper and faster than flash storage. A theoretical concept since 1971, it has now been built in labs and is already starting to revolutionize everything we know about computing, possibly making flash memory, RAM, and even hard drives obsolete within a decade.

If I had to write a paper on upcoming technology I would take a closer look at wireless power transmission. There's so much history of the need for alternate power supply and delivery. Look at power over ethernet, Cisco Discovery Protocol and PowerDsine. You could write a really good paper in no time, with all of the information available online.
