Lightning is good, I was learning that as my first element, but the only jutsu's I was really taught were variations on chidori, which weren't that effective cause they are like melee jutsu.

Lol, it's really easy. You don't even need a sensei for this. Take out a really conductive metal rod. When it's raining really hard along with thunderstorms and whatnot, hold it out to the Heavens and you'll receive its retribution.

First step to learning any element: Experience the excruciating pain of it firsthand, then fear the element itself and finally learn the basic fundamentals of the chosen element then you proceed to more advanced levels.

This may all be practically BS to you, but you know, deep down.. it's the truth!
