We will keep the scores for ourself now and update it every 2 weeks. This so that people don't 'revenche vote' on other characters. At the end, we will see which character is the most popular one.

Nice idea, btw! We consider it!

But yes, I am referring to one's range of abilities when I use that term in the popularity polls. It's a rather silly habit I picked up over the years that I'm comfortable with using. I hope this clears up the confusion.

But I think a new term is necessary. Nardoset. The new term I shall be using.

I'm okay with this "Cosman quirk." DarkWolf approves.

I think the amount of voters should be added into the last two decimals of the average score... Being that this is a popularity contenst and the more people vote Is in correlation with the more popular the character.

For example -
Bakis overall score should be
4.56 - 4,15/10 - (41 voters [Insert thread here])

I highly disagree with this idea. It's possible to achieve a score of greater than '10' this way. For example, Naruto may already have a high score anyway; I imagine it will be something like a 8.76/10. If 200 people vote on him, then his vote would be raised to a 10.76/10. This is ridiculous and doesn't accurately show the people's opinion of him.

In addition, this would greatly skew the poll results. There will be a huge split vote for Sakura; I predict her vote will be something like a 4.31/10 (there's a lot of Sakura haters out there and AASU will be storming the poll that day). There may be 400 people who vote for her, yet 220 out of that 400 may rate her a '1'. Yet those 220 people who vote a '1' would contribute 2.20 additional points towards her overall score, making her rating a 6.51. This definitely doesn't reflect the public opinion.

I realize that the number of people who vote on the characters may not be as large as in my aforementioned examples. Nonetheless, data is not something to be messed with, regardless of how large or small the resulting impact is. "Fudging" data is a form of fraud and in business and science it is a crime (at least in the U.S.A.). It demonstrates a lack of integrity, statistically unrepresentative samples, and shaky policies.

I'm sorry, this idea is utterly moronic.
Popularity is NOT directly proportional to the number of people who vote on a character. Popularity is a social phenomenon that dictates who or what is best liked, not what is most prevalent. To be "popular" may mean to be well-liked by many or to be 'commonplace.' However, "popularity" only takes on the former of the two meanings.

LMAO.. O.K. calm down, we aren't filing your taxes here ...

Notice.. how my example included the vote average AND the Popularity quotient... uh, and this Is a character POPULARITY poll... um the fact that the character can generate allot of haters SHOWS the characters influence on the POPULATION....

If a vote exceed 10 it can be capped or just included... If 4 only people vote and votes itachi a ten, Is he more popular than a naruto which 100 people vote in which 30 of them vote him a nine? - think about that for a second cuz in your form of Data it suggests that he is.

thanx for tryna make me look stupid btw...

Regarding the portion in green:
Popularity and population are far from being synonymous. Generating a great deal of hate amongst the multitudes is more correctly affiliated with infamy rather than popularity. Direct implications among the two terms (popularity and populace) notwithstanding, I already stated before that popularity clearly refers to how "well-liked" something or someone is with less regard concerning how "well-known/commonplace" something or someone is. Generally, popularity as a status does indeed require a significant portion of the overall population to be taken into consideration, but the portion size itself is never specified to require a majority of the sample.

If we were to use your idea, it would have to be greatly modified to include weighted percentiles indicating how much each factor affects the resultant scores. Unfortunately, any chosen percentiles would be completely arbitrary. Ergo, the newly forged data would still fail to accurately reflect any particular trend in the original data.

Regarding the portion in red:
I understand your point. However, it can't be disputed that the linear model you originally proposed is far from adequate. As I mentioned before, popularity and sample size are not directly proportional. Perhaps your idea could instead be tweaked to fit a logarithmic scale of some sort in such a manner that it more accurately portrays public opinion. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if people are willing to put forth the required effort to do so.

Regarding the portion in orange:
That wasn't my intent. I'm fairly certain you're not stupid based on what little I know thus far.
I will however, criticize stupid ideas quite harshly. I'm quite guilty of a fair number of occurrences involving faulty logic and terrible reasoning as well; I am just as hard on myself as I am on others, if not to a greater extent.
Keep in mind that even geniuses can commit blunders... not saying that I'm a genius or anything. I'm far from it, much to my dismay.

I see what you mean. Considering the overall popularity of a character, that might be a viable method of gauging both the positive reception and voter turnout. I'll discuss it with elite.

Is is safe to assume that the polls are dead now? I keep checking here your latest started threads to confirm whether the latest character polls exist. I'd rather not bother if they've been axed by the mods or something.
