who's the most well written character pain or madara ?

This is really hard because both have amazing backstory and have accomplished almost their goals
lets make the comparison.

Madara. his story moves me more and he is more relevant to the story than pain. Also he's accomplished a lot more than pain.

Pain. Madara is evil 'cuz he's evil.

Pain was being manipulated into thinking that by reviving the Juubi he'll be able to change the world and bring peace.

I'll always like villains that think they are doing the right thing over villains that are evil because of no good reason.

madara did have a reason,it's because of discrimination against the uchiha's they where not allowed to have an OP.Have you seen any uchiha hokage ? and also he was betrayed by his only friend hashirama who promised him that he will be the hokage.

because madara left, the uchiha's never had any freedom and look what happend they where slaughtered,so madara didn't have any choise that's why he wanted peace at all cost so that such things would never happen again

While your points are applaudable your facts are wrong. Technically the Uchiha weren't discriminated the second hokage didn't trust them and therefore there was a lot of tension. Also Hashi didn't betray Madara. Tobirama was against Madara becoming hokage and did things in a diplomatic way that didn't favor Madara. The Uchiha clan technically were the ones who drive Madara away along with not becoming hokage. Also he found the Tablet of Rikudou and decided that was his mission in life. Any way it goes Madara trumps Nagato

Then he needs to stop being such an emo. He was around 30 at the time, he should use his brain and realise the reason he wasn't Hokage is that no one trusted him.

Even if you're the strongest in the village ( and he was not ) you still need to be seen as an example and a leader by the population and no one saw Madara like that but the Uchihas.

It looks like the answers are mostly personal opinions but to me Pain's character had more depth and a less generic story than Madara.
Madara is just an overpowered evil villain that wants to take over the world. ..I begin to dislike the Uchiha more and more, but that's just me. *Except for Lord Obitawesome
