Imo, the most likely candidate for the next hokage is Kakashi (if he survives the war) :shrug:

not a genin. he is a sage and a jinchuriki and ambassador to the leaf, and inheritor of the senju's will of fire and fulfilment of the so6p's prophecy to the bijuu, and the reincarnation of the younger son. he will be hokage.

I don't think it has to do with the ranks...But I believe that kakashi is more suitable for the moment...The main part of being Hokage is paperwork,assign missions decision making etc,etc...Naruto has to grow up a little more to be suitable for that...

Your rank doesn't matter when it comes to chosing a Kage. One can be a Jounin or even an ANBU but if they don't have the necessary qualities to become a Kage, they won't become one, even with their high rank.

A Kage needs to be willing to protect the village at all costs, he or she needs to be strong and someone the people would want as a leader. Rank has little to do with that.
Naruto is obviously willing to do everything for the village, he's incredibly strong, people wouldn't mind him leading the village eventually ... They would be stupid to put someone weaker in place just because that person has a higher rank.

Besides Naruto surpassed the rank of Genin a long time ago - hell, he's even a Sage now - the only reason why he still has that rank is because he wasn't there when the exams were held and afterwards he was too busy with chasing after Sasuke and battling the Akatsuki and now there is a war.
