Naruto and Sasuke are set up as opposites. The opposite affinity to fire is water, like wind to lightning. If they are meant to be the yin and yang of each other, then he's got to get water affinity to match up with Sasuke's inventory.

As to when? Perhaps Killer B also has a water affinity in addition to his lightning affinity and already taught it to Naruto? Darui has those two affinities, so it's no stretch to imagine octopus-boy also has it.

Well we already saw what a rasengan with wind and water in it would be like (a small hurricane) during his training with Yamato and kakashi. So it seems as that will probably be the one he gets, but if he does, then how will Sasuke match up with Naruto?

Naruto will have the elements that are strong against the elements of Sasuke, but he doesn't have elements that are strong against Naruto's? don't think that's fair lol xd

Lol Sasuke could use fire to negate rasenshuriken and lightning for Narutoswater jutsus it would reach a stalemate most likely where they both counter each others attacks, like someone said Sasuke has a great defense and Naruto has awesome speed so they might not even lay a hand on each other

Him learning water now is really irrelevant to what is happening right now. That means they would either do a training in the middle of the war arc which would be a stupid thing to do, OR train afterwards, which would be pointless.

Due to the situation if he hasn't already learnt it like you said then he's most likely not going to because the time for training is over right now there's a war going on

Yeah, I am presuming that fillers will serve to show us when he already learned it. As was mentioned earlier, I can't imagine a convenient time for him, at this point, to train for a new element, so it would almost have to occur in the past.

Sorry brah,but lightning doesn't beat water in Naruto. You're thinking of Pokemon.

In Naruto it goes; fire>wind>lightning>earth>water and lastly water beats fire.

If he gets Water it would only essentially be another powerup for Naruto focused on beating Sasuke. Water beats Fire, Wind beats Lightning. Sasuke would have nothing on Naruto, besides, Fire is Uchiha Trademark basically, so I doubt Kishi would take that away from Sasuke in their fight.

And based on Narutos previous Nature Manipulation (Wind-Rasenshuriken) he'd be capable of doing some crazy waterdamage, overpowering every and any Fire jutsu fired at him.

He already trained for Sage Mode and acquisition of the Nine Tails power. Water training isn't going to do much for him at this point.
